It is with immense sadness that we announce the death of our beloved husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather. He was truly a great and authentic person. He was born in Holyrood, Conception Bay, Newfoundland on Feb. 22, 1929 and was the son of the late Margaret (Barron) and John Penney also of Holyrood, Nfld. He had an extensive career and had dedicated himself to his employer: Royal Bank of Canada. He retired in 1987 after 39 years of loyal service. He was promoted several times and this included a number of transfers throughout the Atlantic Provinces. While it all began in St. John’s, Nfld., the Bank was quick to discover his talent and transferred him to places that benefitted from his expertise. He, together with his family, moved to Inverness then went on to Sydney, N.S. He had a short stay in Summerside, P.E.I. and he successfully concluded his career in the Atlantic Headquarters Mortgage Department, Halifax. Kevin was a faithful member of Saint Thomas More Parish, Dartmouth, where for more than 30 years he counted the collection and supplied the church with his financial competencies. Kevin gave of himself in so many ways to his church, his family and to his community. What a man! He could conjure up the solution to almost any problem or fix nearly anything with the use of a stick, duct tape or even a paper clip. His uniqueness in this way was not only clever but effective and efficient. This skill was also evident in his love for gardening. One of his greatest passions was his flower and vegetable gardens and for keeping his lawn well manicured. Kevin is survived by the love of his life and devoted wife, Peggy (Kelly) Penney. His six children, Frank (Frances) Sydney, N.S.; Mary (Wayne Gentile), East Bay, N.S.; Annette, Dartmouth, N.S.; Margie (Kevin Dickson), Mira, N.S.; Tina (Lewis Villegas), Vancouver, B.C. and Kevin (Allison), Dartmouth. His 11 grandchildren, David Penney (Shannon); Laura Wrathall (Corey); Deanna Joseph Roussy (Shawn); Shane Joseph (Natasha); Tracey Dickson-MacDonald (Lewis); Robert Dickson (Marsha); Caroline and Matthew Villegas; Ryan and Garrett Lovett; and, Abby Penney. His seven great-grandchildren, Gabriella; Allie; Ben; Luke; Dylan; Penney and, Noah. His brothers and sisters, Cyril, Ray, and Hilda; and a special niece, Patricia, together with many other nieces and nephews and his very special feline friend “Tiny”. Besides his parents, Kevin was predeceased by a brother, Edward, and sister, Eileen, and son-in-law, Allan Joseph, and brothers-in-law, Ed Moore, Mike Walsh, Mike Mulcahy, Robert Burns and Vince Wall. Upon his request, there will be no visitation. Funeral service to be held at St. Thomas More Church, 15 Caledonia Rd., Dartmouth at 11 a.m., Tuesday, June 21, 2016 with a reception to follow in the church hall.
