Born in Sydney on July 26, 1955, he was a son of Murray and Norma (Carson) Hooper. Ross had a long career as an electronic technician and software developer. He was very much a do-it-yourself kind of person, and was always eager to make use of his skills to help others. Ross was musically talented, and was a great singer and guitarist. He loved spending his summers hiking remote creeks and stillwaters in pursuit of trout, or relaxing at his family's cottage in Boisdale with the rest of the gang. Besides his parents, he is survived by his son, Daniel, Sydney; sister, Claire Rogers (Hector Morais), Blackett’s Lake; brothers, Charles (Irene), Grand Lake Road, Keith (Kim), Halifax, Murray (Nurys), Costa Rica and Stephen (Marlene), Howie Centre. Ross was predeceased by his wife, Deborah (Blakney) and daughter, Allison. There will be no visitation. A celebration of life will be held at Sydney Memorial Chapel on Friday 11 a.m., with Rev. Dana Feltmate officiating. Interment in Resurrection Cemetery. Annie Victoria (Tighe) MacNeil In addition to her other grandchildren, Annie Victoria MacNeil, who died on May 15, 2016, at Maple Hill Manor, is also survived by Donald Schaump and Pat Schaump. Brine McIsaac Passed on: April 28th, 2016 The family of Brine McIsaac, who passed away April 28, 2016, will be hosting a celebration of his life on Friday, June 3, 2016 at 7 p.m. in the Parish Church of St. Leonard, formerly Mount Carmel Church, on Mt. Carmel Avenue, New Waterford. All are welcome to attend for much music and memories. A reception will follow at St. Leonard’s Parish Hall on Convent Street, New Waterford. John Michael Bernard Sr. Born In: Sydney Passed in: Eskasoni Passed on: May 30th, 2016 John Michael Bernard Sr., 63 of Eskasoni, passed away at home, Monday, May 30, 2016. Born in Sydney, he was the son of the late Esther Googoo and Louis E. Poulette. He was a member of Holy Family parish, Eskasoni. John was employed at Eskasoni Oyster Farm, as a woodsman and as an ambulance driver for T.W.Curry for several years and was an Eskasoni firefighter for 40 years. He is survived by his wife, Rita; daughter, Esther (Shae); sons, Noel, Johnny, Albert and George, stepchildren, Leon and Rita; grandchildren, Makayla (Pictou Landing), Dianna, baby George and Michael, all of Eskasoni. He is also survived by his only brother, Peter (Nora); nieces, Margaret (Ron) and Mercedes; nephews, Mike Sapier, Kevin (Jasine), Bernard and Roman; godchildren, Brylan, Malcolm (Selena), Shannon (Frankie), Darlene (Simon), Nakita Dennis; in-laws, Mike (Gwen) Cremo, Martin (Mary T.) Cremo, all of Eskasoni and Marion Cremo of Sydney. John was predeceased by his grandmother, Mary Bernard; aunt, Mary Agnes Bernard; uncle, William ‘Checker’ Bernard; two children in infancy; brothers, George Bernard, Vincent ‘Frenchie’ Bernard; stepbrother, Roderick Googoo Sr.; nephew, Blair Bernard; in-laws, John and Nancy Michael. Visitation for Mr. Bernard will begin on Thursday, June 2 after 7 p.m. in the family residence, 103 George St., Eskasoni. Funeral mass will be celebrated on Saturday at 10:30 a.m. at Holy Family Church with Rev. Martin MacDougall officiating. Interment in the parish cemetery, Eskasoni. Germaine Durdle New Waterford/River Ryan Germaine Durdle, 54 yrs, of River Ryan, passed away peacefully at the New Waterford Consolidsated Hospital on Monday, May 30, 2016. Born in New Waterford, she was the daughter of the late Palmer and Isabell (MacMullin) Helle. Germaine was a member of St. Agnes Church. She worked in senior homes for many years as a personal caregiver. She loved doing crafts and got great pleasure doing yard work with her husband, John.
