Born in South Bar, he was the son of the late Jim and Margaret (Collins) MacKinnon. Billy was a veteran of the Korean War. He was employed as a coal miner for many years. Billy was a gentle soul who was never seen without a smile on his face. Those who knew Billy, knew him to be a hard working man of great strength, generosity and integrity. He was a loving and wonderful husband, father, grandfather, son, uncle, brother and dear friend who will be deeply missed. Billy is survived by his loving wife of 60 years, Ellen (Boutilier) MacKinnon; three sons, Daniel (Brenda), Sydney, Arthur (Susie), Sydney, Steve (Lil), Gardiner Mines; one sister, Mary MacDonald, B.C.; one brother, Martin MacKinnon, South Bar; six grandchildren, Tiffany, Courtney, Brena, Cailin, Tara, Scottie; three great grandchildren, Brooklyn, Boopie, Tiana, many extended family and great friends. Billy was predeceased by his son, David and brothers, Fr. Art, Ernie, Dan, Reggie, Francis, Allan, Little Billy. Cremation has taken place. Visitation will be held on Wednesday from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. in V.J. McGillivray Funeral Home, 16 Reserve St., Glace Bay. The funeral mass, officiated by Fr. Ray Huntley is Thursday at 2 p.m. in St. Leonard Church, Mt. Carmel Avenue, New Waterford followed by interment in St. James Cemetery, Gardiner Mines. Mary Lillian 'Lilly' Keats Born In: Glace Bay Passed in: Sydney Passed on: June 27th, 2016 It is with heavy hearts we announce the passing of our loving wife, mother, sister and grandmother, Lilly Keats, age 67. Lilly passed away on Monday, June 27, 2016, at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, Sydney, surrounded by her loving family. Born in Glace Bay, she was the daughter of the late Charles Louis and Mary Isabell (Tutty) Boutilier and was a member of Christ Anglican Church, South Head. In her earlier years Lilly was employed with H. Hopkins Ltd., Glace Bay Fisheries and Ka’le Bay Fish processing plants. She was a longtime member of the Royal Canadian Legion, Branch 55, Port Morien, Lilly was also a member of their dart league and truly enjoyed her times spent playing darts with her friends. Mom always wanted to be recognized and known for her tough facade, but truly, she was a very soft person. There wasn’t a mean bone in her body and her main priority was always her family. Mom will be sadly missed by her loving husband of 48 years Clarence Douglas ‘Dougie’ Keats; daughters, Marlane (Jim) Gibbs, Manitoba and Cheryl (A.J.) Hall, Glace Bay; sister, Glenda (John) Dillon, Birch Grove. Lilly will also be greatly missed by her cherished grandchildren, Caleigh Gibbs, J.D. Hall, Sinead Gibbs, Courtney Hall; numerous nieces, nephews and friends. Besides her parents, she was also predeceased by a daughter, Sharon in infancy; a sister, Amy ‘Ted’ (Edward) Wadden and another sister and brother both in infancy. In respecting Lilly’s wishes, cremation has taken place under the care and direction of V.J. McGillivray Funeral Home. Visitation will be held on Thursday, June 30, 2016 from 1 p.m. until the time of the service at 2 p.m., all in the V.J. McGillivray Funeral Home, 16 Reserve St., Glace Bay, with Rev. Vernon Reid officiating. A luncheon will be held at the Royal Canadian Legion, Branch 55, Port Morien immediately following the funeral service on Thursday. Interment will be at a later date. Ronald 'Butch' Leigh Nickerson Born In: Yarmouth, Nova Scotia, Canada Passed in: Barrie, Ontario, Canada Passed on: June 23rd, 2016 It is with deep sadness that we announce the sudden passing of Ronald Leigh Nickerson 69, on Thursday June 23, 2016, at home in Barrie, Ont., where he lived with his daughter, Tara. Butch was born in Yarmouth, spent his childhood in Cape Breton and lived his adult life in Ontario. Butch was predeceased by his father, Elvin Leon Gaudley; a sister in infancy and his companion, Del Sauve. He is survived by his Mom, Glenna E. Gaudley (Nickerson) and by his three children, Cory (Cherie) Barrie; Glen (Kristyl) Barrie; Tara (Jeremy) Cluett Barrie, their mother, Betty Nickerson Barrie and his six granddaughters, Samantha, Alexis, Naomi, Brooklyn, Alyssa and Ashlyn; his siblings, Pat Pretty, Alberta; Elvin (Dutchie) Gaudley, Manitoba; William (Billy) Gaudley Ontario; Sylvia (Phil) Carter, Sydney; Wendy (Colin) MacNeil; Ottawa Brook, Shawn (Patty) Gaudley; MacKinnons Harbour and many nieces, nephews, family and friends. As were Butch's wishes cremation has taken place and there will be no visitation or funeral service; burial will take place at a later date. Douglas 'Doug' Kehoe Born In: Sydney Passed in: Sydney Passed on: June 24th, 2016 It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Douglas ‘Doug’ James Kehoe, 76 of Sydney, at his home on Friday, June 24, 2016. Born in Sydney, he was the son of the late Abraham and Marjorie (Kehoe) Ross. Doug worked 32 years with Paul Hashem’s Scrapyard until his retirement. He was a past member of the C.B. Club. Survived by his loving wife of 37 years Lena (Kirton); brother, John ‘Jack’ Ross, Sydney; brothers-in-law, Allister and Randy Kirton; sisters-in-law, Idela, Joyce, Annabelle ‘Bobbie’, Mary, Wanda, Julie, Sharon and Carolyn Kirton; three godchildren, as well as by many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by in-laws, Harold and Annabelle Kirton; brothers-in-law, Alonzo and Eleazor and sister-in-law, Charlotte. There will be no visitation for Mr. Kehoe. Funeral mass will be celebrated at 1 p.m. on Wednesday, June 29, at St. Philip’s African Orthodox Church, 57 Hankard St. Sydney with Archbishop Waterman officiating. Donations to a charity of choice.
