Colin Francis Livingstone Passed in: Evanston Passed on: June 12th, 2016 Colin Francis Livingstone (1915-2016) of Little Judique, Cape Breton passed away peacefully surrounded by his family, June 12, 2016 at Strait-Richmond Hospital, Evanston. Colin was the youngest of eight children of Isabel (MacDougall) and Alexander Livingstone, born at the old homestead in Harbourview into a hardworking Scottish Highland Catholic rural farming family, primarily Gaelic speaking. “Big Collie” had a rich and rewarding life in which “early-to-bed-early-to-rise” forever fuelled his strengths. By the time he was a young adult in the 1930s, he had received formal training in what was to become his lifelong profession, carpentry. Drawn by excitement and duty, Colin joined the Canadian Army in 1942 and, in respect for his size, was quickly made a Provost Marshal on the military trains, charged with policing Canadian troops headed for the east coast (and onward to Europe) and German POWs going to various prison camps during the Second World War. It was on a stopover in Montreal in 1942 that he met the woman he was to marry, his soul mate Elizabeth MacDonald of Pleasant Valley, Antigonish. They married Sept. 2, 1944 in Montreal. In 1958, Colin became an in-house carpenter for the Inverness County District School Board, where he worked for the next 35 years. He leaves to mourn children, Jean (Michael) Anderson, Avondale, Marion (Charlie) Graham and Coleen (Harold) MacDonald, Judique, Leon, Cathy (John) Cotton, and R.J. (Anne Marie), Little Judique, Ambrose of Iqaluit, Nunavut, and Sheila (Kevin) Kelly, Ottawa. Loved by 32 grandchildren, 32 great-grandchildren, many nieces, grand-nieces, nephews and grand-nephews. He was predeceased his loving wife of 59 years, Elizabeth (2004) and grandsons, Jeffrey Graham and John Colin Kelly. He is survived by the last remaining member of his immediate family, sister, Florence MacDonald, age 103, Bridgeport, Glace Bay, Visitation will be held from 2 to 5 p.m. and 6 to 9 p.m. Thursday, June 16th at the Port Hood Funeral Home. Lorna (Tobin) Cann Born In: Sydney Mines Passed in: Big Bras d'Or It is with a broken heart that I, Lorna (Tobin) Cann, at the age of 74, write this prior to losing a short battle with cancer at my son’s home in Big Bras d’Or. I would prefer not to have my family and friends mourn over me, just think of the good times we all had. I’m hoping to be in a better place with Ma, Da, daughter, Wanda; son, Joe and the love of my life, my soul mate, Jackie Leach. To my friends at the Sydney Mines Pensioners Club and the Dart League, just keep a seat open, you know I’m there. To my Bingo and card nights at Saint Pius X Hall with my best friends Mary Boyd and Eileen Romeo, I will miss you guys. My blueberry fields will be plentiful this year as I will not be out to pick them; my favourite location will be my best kept secret. I spent most of my life in Ontario, as a superintendent for various apartment buildings, so I know the hard work and value of a dollar. I feel sad that I must leave behind my loving son, Louis and his wife, Esther, who I consider like a daughter, and have been very patient with me and never lost their cool. To my daring grandchildren, Cecil (Jr), Jeffery and Tammy, I will miss you dearly, and my grandchildren, Carolyn, Joseph, Robert and Kayla including my 15 great-grandchildren, I will be there to guide you. To my loving and only brother, Joe (JR) Tobin (Isabel), you be strong for me, I know you can do it. To Francis (Mugsy) Groves, who was a true brother-in-law, take care. To my nieces Wendy and Fay, my nephews Jody and Jason, thank you for your ever loving support. I would also like to thank Elaine (Leach) and Dave MacDougall for your lovely visit, and our memorable travels to Ontario with your dad Jackie. I must not forget my four legged friend Rockie, who was always by my side throughout my illness. I was born and raised in Sydney Mines and predeceased by my parents, Joey and Mary Melvina ‘Mel’ Roy Tobin. I was never a world traveller, just a mother who cared, loved and provided for her family, so I may be gone in body, but I’ll be around, so be careful. I would like to take this time to thank Dr. Beth McCormick, the palliative care doctors, especially the palliative care nurse Cathy McMillan and VON for all their care during my illness. I am requesting no visitation; cremation will take place and just a simple graveyard committal for the family. My funeral arrangements are under the direction of J.M. Jobes Funeral Home. Words of comfort for my family may be forwarded to www.jmjobesfuneralhome.com.
