Murrant - 77 yrs John Wayne (Duke) MacKenzie Born In: Dominion Passed on: June 28th, 2016 It is with heavy hearts we announce the passing of our loving husband, father and grandfather. John Wayne Mackenzie a retired coal miner of 33 years peacefully passed away on Tuesday, June 28, 2016 at age 75. Born in Dominion, raised by his grandmother and Aunt Unise and Uncle Fiddler. Wayne’s entire world revolved around his soulmate Jean, they spent many days going for drives to Tim’s to get an Icecap and parking at Dominion Beach. He was a pretty simple guy so it didn’t take much to make him happy. There’s nothing he loved more than when he’d finally get to eat a Big Mac Attack and the famous Friday night pizzas! In his spare time he loved working around the house and yard where he thought he was jack of all trades. Most of all, his pride and joy were his children and grandchildren, he loved them more than life itself. Throughout his illness he always put his family first and never complained about anything. His amazing sense of humour was never lost. He will be sadly missed by wife Jean (Hann), son Danny (Belinda MacNeil), daughter Cheryl (Fred Bourgeois), grandchildren Marc and Caitlin Bourgeois and his lifelong friends Billy and Florence Gracie. Besides his parents he was predeceased by his brother Eddie Mackenzie and his best friend Harvey Cameron. To our family, friends and neighbours we can’t thank you enough. We are truly blessed to have you in our lives. A special thank you to Corrie MacDonald and Kim Popwell for your kindness and support. Thank you to the Cancer Center at the Regional Hospital, especially Dr. Jensen and staff, also VON and 3rd floor nursing staff at the Glace Bay Hospital. Donations can be made to the Cape Breton Cancer Center in memory of our father. Love you … A bushel and a peck and a hug around the neck.
