(Hunt) Parsons - Francis Phillip “Frank” Nearing 67 yrs Louise Olive (Kacevychius-Ball) Gilis Born In: Bras d'Or Born: February 9th, 1941 Passed on: June 9th, 2016 It is with great sadness we announce the passing of our beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, aunt and friend, Louise Olive (Kacevychius-Ball) Gillis, at the age of 75, on Thursday, June 9, 2016 at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital Palliative Care Unit, with her loving family by her side. Born in Bras d’Or, on Feb. 9, 1941, Louise was the daughter of the late Joseph Robert Kacevychius and Bertha (Carey) and Keith Ball. She was employed and enjoyed many years working at Holy Angels Convent in Sydney. St. Giles Presbyterian Church in North Sydney was a very important part of her life and she loved attending church every Sunday. In earlier years, she enjoyed bingo, bowling and playing softball. Her favorite day was Tuesday when she attended the Bras d’Or Seniors card games. She loved family gatherings especially Christmas morning and enjoyed travelling with family and friends. Louise is survived by her loving husband of 57 years; Jack, her children, John (Dot), Cochrane, Alta., Kevin (Anita), Leitches Creek and Cathy (Andrew) Fraser, Floral Heights; her grandchildren, Jessica, Lindsay, Matthew, Johnathan and great-granddaughter Madison. She is also survived by her brother Jed (Valerie) Ball, Balls Creek; her sister Stella (Adrian) Gallant, Moncton; her brother-in-law Al Law, New Glasgow; sisters-in-law Ann Ball, Balls Creek, Marie Kacevychius, Sydney and many special nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her parents and stepfather Keith Ball, her sister Bernice Law, her brothers Alphonse and Joseph Kacevychius, Gerard in infancy, Stewart and Charlie Ball. Special thanks to sister-in-law Linda and husband Warren Gillis, to Valerie, Ann, Gladys and Diane, longtime best friends Marg and Don Young and Georgina and Crawford Keeping for their daily visits to Louise and constant bedside compassion shown to her while in Palliative Care. Also thank you to her many nieces, nephews and cousins for their visits at home and in the hospital. Thank you to the loving doctors, nurses and volunteers at An Cala Palliative Care unit of the Cape Breton Regional Hospital. Visitation for Louise will be held from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. today (Saturday) in the W.J. Dooley Funeral Home, 107 Pleasant St., North Sydney. Funeral service to be held at 2 p.m. on Sunday, at St. Giles Presbyterian Church with Rev. Ritchie Robinson officiating. Cremation will follow. Burial will take place in Lakeside Cemetery, North Sydney at a later date. Joseph Harriet Born In: Sydney Passed in: Sydney Passed on: June 8th, 2016 It is with broken hearts that we the family announce the peaceful passing of Joseph Harriet, age 80, on Wednesday, June 8, 2016 at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, Sydney. Born in Sydney, he was the son of the late Joseph and Faustina (Bates) Harriet. He is survived by his loving wife of 59 years, Christina (MacVicar); son, Bryan (Renee) Harriet; daughters, Johann (Richard) Emery, Valerie (Michael) Coviello all of the USA; 12 grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren; brother Albert (Judy) Harriet, Sydney, as well as many nieces and nephews. Besides his parents, he was predeceased by his son Joel Harriet, brothers, Ernest, Arthur and William and in-laws, Stirling and Jennie MacVicar. Cremation has taken place, as per his wishes, there will be no visitation or services A private interment will be at a later date. Funeral arrangements are under the direction of S.W. John 'Tossie' MacQueen Born In: Sydney Passed in: Whitney Pier Passed on: June 2nd, 2016 It is with great sadness that we, the family regret to announce the passing of John ‘Tossie’ MacQueen, at the age of 84 years, on Thursday, June 2, 2016 at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, Sydney. Born in Sydney, Tossie was the son of the late Angus and Sadie (Spears) MacQueen. Tossie was a member of Bethel Presbyterian Church. In early years, Tossie was employed with CJCB Television and prior to retirement in 1982, he was owner and operator of Able Signs Writers in Sydney. Tossie will be missed by all who knew him. Left behind to mourn are Tossie’s three sons, Billy, David and Darren (Michelene); two grandchildren, Molly and Lauchie; two great-granddaughters, Carmen and Maya; special friend and companion, Donna Williams; sister, Lena ‘Bunny’ MacDougall, Brockton, Mass.; as well as several nieces and nephews. Besides his parents, Tossie was predeceased by his loving wife, Ada (Bulter) MacQueen, sister, Mary ‘Penny’ Dean and brothers, Arnold, Murray, Dougie and Carl. As per Tossie’s request, his body was donated to medical science at Dalhousie University, Halifax. Memorial service to celebrate the life of John ‘Tossie’ MacQueen will be held on Sunday, June 12, 2016 at 1 p.m. in the Pier Community Funeral Home, All Faith Chapel, Whitney Pier. Following the service light refreshments will be held in the funeral home reception area. Donations in memory of Tossie may be made to a charity of one’s choice. (nee Hunt) Parsons Passed in: Halifax, Canada Passed on: June 8th, 2016 With the same grace and dignity by which she lived her life, and surrounded with much love, Shirley passed away on Wednesday, June 8, 2016. Shirley was a loving mother, daughter, grandmother, partner, sister, aunt and friend and a respected employee of Canadian Blood Services in Halifax and St. John’s, N.L. She was predeceased by her parents, Percy and Joan (nee Boutilier) Hunt. Leaving to mourn with loving and lasting memories are her devoted partner Bryan MacDougall, her children Liam, Halifax; Joshua (Dasha Ermolovich), St. John’s; Emily (Jon Bulatovic), Ottawa; Ellen, Halifax and their father, William J. Parsons, St. John’s, N.L. Mourning the loss of their cherished Nana is her grandchild Olivia and her brother Nathaniel. Francis 'Frank' Phillip Nearing Born In: Glace Bay Born: March 30th, 1940 Passed in: Nanaimo British Columbia Passed on: May 24th, 2016 Frank was born March 30, 1949, in Glace Bay to the late Joseph and Matilda (Milley) Nearing. He worked as a truck driver for over 35 years before that as a heavy duty mechanic in such places as Mahatta River, Prince George, and Naniamo, passed away May 24, 2016, in the Naniamo General Hospital. He leaves behind his son Philip (Shar); daughter Brenda (Andrew) and two granddaughters Jasmine and Keira, along with brothers George, Joseph, James, Kevin and Wayne and sisters Florence, Pauline, Paula, Eva, Matilda, Corinne and many nieces and nephews. Frank was also predeceased by brothers Thomas and John and sisters Bridget in infancy and Mary. Cremation has taken place with a private spreading of ashes at a later date.
