Born Dec. 5, 1933, she was a daughter of the late Joseph and Stella (McNamara) MacKenzie. Shirley spent her childhood in Dominion, where she developed a lifelong passion for sports, fishing and the “shore”. A 1954 graduate of St. Joseph’s nursing program, she spent her entire nursing career at St. Joseph’s Hospital, Glace Bay, which lasted over 30 years. A woman of strong faith, she was a member of Immaculate Conception, St. Anne’s and Holy Cross congregations. Shirley is survived by her three daughters, Michele Bresson, Sydney, Darlene (Roddie) McNeil, Glace Bay and Karen (Abbie) Michalik, Glace Bay; two sisters, Myrna Stone, Port Hawkesbury and Elizabeth 'Betty' Morrison, Dominion; niece, Kathy Bresson (Darrell), Glace Bay; beloved grandchildren, Jainey, Roddie, Angela, Krystal and AJ; great-grandchildren, Matty and Jack, and was also anticipating the arrival of a new great-grandchild in the spring. She was predeceased by her stepmother, Mamie (Proctor) MacKenzie; three sisters in childhood, Rachel, Pearl and Mary; brother, Francis MacKenzie; brothers-in-law, David Stone and Tommy Morrison; son-in-law, Cameron Bresson and baby, Judith Ann in infancy. Shirley will always be remembered by those who knew and loved her for her quick wit and sense of humour. A very heartfelt thank you to the staff of 3B for their excellent care and to her dear friend, Patsy Hall for her wonderful companionship. Words cannot express our gratitude. As per her request, there will be no visitation. A private service and interment will take place at a later date. Catherine Frances Kyte Born In: Sydney Passed in: Halifax, Nova Scotia, Canada Passed on: February 14th, 2016 Catherine Frances Kyte, age 94 of Bedford, formerly of Sydney, passed away peacefully on Sunday, Feb. 14, 2016 at the Halifax Infirmary, Halifax, N.S. Born in Sydney, she was the daughter of the late Onufry and Josephine (Dononvan) Bossack. Frances was a member of St. Ignatius parish, Bedford and a former member of Holy Redeemer parish, Whitney Pier. She had been a member of the St. Gerard’s Guild, a volunteer with family welfare and a member of both Club 55 and the Steelworker’s Pensioner’s Club, Sydney. Surviving Frances are her daughters, Sharon (Wally) MacKenzie, Sydney, Kay (Art ‘Butch’) Pittman, Bedford; son, Dave (Jennifer), Texas; daughter-in-law, Sandy Kyte, Dartmouth; sister-in-law, Olga Bossack, Sydney; 17 grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren and a number of nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband, Paul; son, Edward; daughter, Helen ‘Perky’ Hyde; sisters, Mary Bossack, Helen Pettipas and brother, Daniel Bossack. Visitation for the late Mrs. Kyte will take place on Thursday, Feb. 18 from 6- 8 p.m. at T.W.Curry Parkview Chapel. Funeral mass will be celebrated on Friday at 10 a.m. at Holy Redeemer Church with Rev. Paul Murphy officiating. Interment in Resurrection Cemetery, Sydney Forks. Jacqueline Ann Currie Born In: Glace Bay Passed in: Sydney Passed on: February 14th, 2016 It is with heartfelt sadness that we, the family, announce the sudden passing of a dear wife, mother, grandmother, sister and aunt, Jacqueline Ann Currie on Sunday, Feb. 14, 2016, at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, Sydney, with all her family by her side. Born in Glace Bay, she was the daughter of the late John R. 'Jack' and Anne MacDonald. In her early years she was employed as a nurses aid at St. Joseph’s Hospital, MacLeod’s and MacAulay’s Nursing Homes. Later in life she was employed at I.C.T., where she made many treasured friends. Mom’s favourite job was being a devoted fulltime wife, mother and grandmother. She was kind, loving, caring and treasured by all her family and friends. Mom always had the best advice to give to anyone for any situation. She would drop everything to help anyone in need, Mom was famous to share all of her most cherished memories and stories with her family and friends and sometimes even a person she met at the grocery store. We all learned so much from her to guide us in our journeys. Mom loved her grandchildren very much and was very proud of each and every one of them. Surviving are her devoted loving husband, Naish; daughter, Angela; sons, Willie (Heidi) and Joe (Sabrina); grandchildren, Matthew, Raymond, Liam, Caileigh, Carter and Logan; sisters, Isabelle (Bev), Shirley, Pat (Al), Sharon (Donnie) and brother-in-law, Bill MacLeod and many nieces and nephews, brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law. Besides her parents, she was predeceased by her parents-in-law, William and Penelope Currie; son-in-law, Levi Boutilier; special niece, Anna Marie MacDougall and many brothers-in-law and sisiters-in-law. Cremation has taken place under the care and direction of Patten Funeral Home. Visitation will take place on Friday, Feb.19, 2016 from 12 p.m.-2 p.m. at Patten Funeral Home with service to follow at 2 p.m. in Patten Funeral Home Chapel. Daniel 'Danny' Donovan Born In: North Sydney Passed in: Halifax, Nova Scotia, Canada Passed on: February 5th, 2016 We, the family of Daniel Donovan, age 71, of Halifax, regret to announce his passing on Feb. 5, 2016. Danny passed away following a courageous battle with cancer. Born in North Sydney, he was the son of the late John and Josephine Donovan. He is survived by his sisters, Mary Gillis, Florence Wilson and his brother, Joe (Brenda). Besides his parents, he was predeceased by a sister, Katie and two infant brothers. He leaves behind his wife, Ruth Martin; three sons, John (Angela), Shawn (Caroline), Ron (Lynn); four grandchildren, several dear friends, nieces and nephews. Danny was a fisherman and loved the sea. Cremation has taken place in Halifax. Burial will be in North Sydney at a later date. "Rest in peace, Danny. You will be missed. Forever remembered, Forever loved. God took you home, It was His will. But in our hearts, We love you still."
