Annie Olson Born In: Sydney Mines Born: January 3rd, 1921 Passed in: Sydney Mines Passed on: February 13th, 2016 With saddened hearts we announce the peaceful passing of our Mother Annie Olson at the age of 95 on Feb. 13, 2016. Born in Sydney Mines on Jan. 3, 1921, she was the daughter of the late Andrew and Dominica Malanka. Mom was member of the Holy Family CWL, Royal Canadian Legion Branch 8 Sydney Mines and Senior Citizens & Pensioners Club of Sydney Mines. Mom dedicated her life to raising her large family. She still worried about and unconditionally loved each and every one, no matter what their age and looked forward to their frequent visits and phone calls to “regale” her of the current news in their lives. Senior’s Daycare was a large and thoroughly enjoyable part of Mom’s weekly routine; the nurses and volunteers at Harbour View Seniors Daycare made her days so pleasant. When she had her full vision the Sydney Mines library and its very dedicated staff was also a great part of Mom’s life; reading was always a passion for her, feet on a towel at the oven door and a book in her hand was a common sight in our kitchen on the cold winter nights. When her vision faded, CNIB talking books became her new form of reading. Never did a night pass by when one was not taking Mom on new adventures. Mom cherished the friendships of the residents of Sunset Manor, 50 Jacob St. where she lived for a number of her later years. Mom lived out her final years at the Northside Community Guest Home, a wonderful last home. The dedicated, exceptional staff are to be commended for their loving and considerate care. Mom, we love you, we love you,we love you. Mom leaves to mourn with fond and loving memories her eleven children, Andrew (Juanita) of Sydney Mines, George (Doreen) of Pickering, Ontario, Sandra (Jean Marie) of Montreal, Cynthia (Butch) of Sydney, Dave (Sharon) of Sydney River, Marlene (John) of Montreal, Brenda (John) of Scotch Lake, Tommy (Lana) of Sydney Mines, Mary (Donnie) of Alberta, Debbie (Dave) of Deer Lake, N.L., Bonnie (Paul) of Sydney River. She is also survived by 15 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren and our family’s great friend and neighbour, Rita DiPersio and many nieces and nephews. Besides her parents she was predeceased by her husband, David, two sons in infancy, brothers George, Dannie and Johnnie, sisters Jessie and Sally and great grandson, Milo. Arrangements are under the care and direction of J.M. Jobes Funeral Home, Sydney Mines. There will be no visitation. A funeral mass celebrating Annie’s life will be held Wednesday, Feb. 17, 2016 at 10 a.m. in Holy family Church, Sydney Mines, with Fr. James Oliver officiating. A reception will follow in the parish Hall. Family flowers only. Donations in Mom’s memory may be made to Harbour View Seniors Daycare, Northside Community Guest Home or a charity of one’s choice. “You can shed tears that she is gone. Or you can smile because she has lived.” (taken from: She is Gone,” David Harkins, UK, 1981) Words of comfort may be forwarded to the family at www.jmjobesfuneralhome.com <http://www.jmjobesfuneralhome.com/>.
