DOUCET It is with deep sadness that we announce the sudden passing of Russel Thomas Doucet (October 6th, 1936 – March 31st, 2016), 79 years old, at his home in Antigonish. Born in Cheticamp, he was the son of the late William (à Marcellin and Olive Aucoin) and Hèlène-Rose (à Thomas Doucette and Margaret Brewer). Russel grew up on the family farm in Point Cross. At a very young age, he ventured to Toronto where he and his first wife, Dorothy, raised their children. A devout Catholic, he was most happy surrounded by his loving family and many friends. He always looked forward, in great anticipation, to their annual vacation down home. We will always remember Russ for his kind soul, sense of humour and his passion for driving and cars. He was always ready for a road trip while listening to his country favourites. Most of his life he worked for Harrington Door and Lumber Yard. Later on, he followed one of his dreams and became a truck driver. He was known as a Jack-of-all-trades but specifically for his love of woodworking; his many projects, a true example of his great craftsmanship. Widowed and retired, he eventually returned to his native community. In later years, he married Margaret Chiasson and they enjoyed life to the fullest, especially loving to travel and camp. In recent years he became more of a homebody and was content to be making puzzles; watching his favourite football team, the New England Patriots; and of course, hockey as he cheered on Les Canadiens de Montréal. He enjoyed home cooked meals and never missed an opportunity to go to Dairy Queen for some ice cream. Russel was a beloved husband, father, and grandfather. Deeply saddened as we say good-bye, he leaves behind his wife of 20 years, Margaret; son Kevin (Diane), Toronto, Ontario; daughter Karen-Rybka (Darren), Mississauga, Ontario; stepdaughters Paulette (Halifax) and Debbie (Halifax), stepson Gerry Chiasson (Wanda), Antigonish; sister Therese (Gerard), Saint-Joseph-du-Moine, and brother Marcel (Mina) Bradford, Ontario. He will be greatly missed by his grandchildren Dylan, Ryan, Zachary, Tyler, Lindsey, and Jacob; and step-grandchildren Scott, Lauren and Daniel. As well, he holds a special place in the hearts of many nieces, nephews and extended family members. Besides his parents he was predeceased by former wife Dorothy (Cormier), sister Catherine Mame Brown and brother Gordon Doucet. Cremation has taken place and the Funeral Mass was held on Wednesday, April 6th at 2:00 p.m. at St. Joseph Church in Saint-Joseph-du-Moine with Father Barrett Clare-Johnson officiating. Burial to follow at a later date in Toronto, Ontario. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to The Heart and Stroke Foundation of Canada or a charity of your choice. Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Cheticamp Funeral Services. Condolences may be sent to cheticampfuneral@ns.aliantzinc.ca <mailto:cheticampfuneral@ns.aliantzinc.ca>.
