Filek - 83 yrs Ellen Margaret Prendergast-McRae - 90 yrs Donna (Dunn) Weed - 73 yrs Mary Wrobleski Whitney Pier We regret to announce the passing of our mother and grandmother, Mary Wrobleski, on Tuesday, April 5, 2016, at Harbourstone Enhanced Care Facility with her family by her side. Born in Sydney, she was the daughter of the late Ben and Mary Elizabeth ( MacMul l in) Smith. She was the last surviving member of her immediate family. She was a lifelong member of Holy Redeemer parish. Mary worked at Eatons shoe department for several years, then stayed at home to raise her family. She retired as head cook from Parkdale House in 1993. “Baba’s” life was filled with love and devotion to both family and friends. We love and miss you very much. She is survived by sons, Carl, Bennie ( Joanne); daughter, Mary (Capt. Roderick) Keeping; daughter-in-law, Rhonda Wrobleski and sister-in-law, Josephine (Wrobleski) Canova; grandchildren, Angela Wrobleski (Danny Hynes), Carl Martin (Maureen Gillis), Brandon Wrobleski, Joshua Wrobleski (Sarah MacDonald), Julie-Anne Wrobleski and Sarah Keeping; great-grandson, Logan Hynes, and several nieces and nephews. Mary was predeceased by her husband, Charles, 1980; son, Martin, 1981; brothers, Donald, Martin, John Neil, Ben, Rev. Angus Smith; brothers-in-law, Leo and Joseph, and sisters-inlaw, Sonia Reppa, Stella MacKinnon and Shirley Wrobleski. Visitation for Mary Wrobleski will be on Friday from 2-4 & 7-9 p.m. at T.W. Curry Parkview Chapel. Funeral mass will be celebrated on Saturday at 10 a.m. at Holy Redeemer Church. Interment in Resurrection Cemetery, Sydney Forks. The family would like to thank the wonderful staff at Harbourstone Enhanced Care, Spanish Bay, her second home since 2010. Filek Milford/Sydney Raymond H. Filek, age 83 of Milford, passed away Wednesday, April 6, 2016 in the Colchester East Hants Health Centre, Truro. Born in Sydney, Ray was a son of the late Joseph and Mary Filek. Ray was a long- standing owner of Whitney Sales Agency and a manufacturer’s agent for 50 years. Until the last few years Ray continued to be active in his business. While Ray was a consummate salesman, he was a very loving “Dad” to his three boys and daughter, Carolynn. He enjoyed many good times with family and friends at both cottages. The boys know what “Put it in the Truck” means. Ray was not only respected as a businessman but was also dearly loved and will be sadly missed. He is survived by wife, Paula; son, Bruce ( Jennifer), Dartmouth, Robert (Donna), Halifax; daughter, Carolynn (Gerry) Phaneuf, Milford. Ray is also survived by grandchildren, Ben, Amy, Patrick, Stephen, Angela and Kayla; great-grandchildren, René and Talia. Ray was predeceased by son, Ray Jr.; parents, Joseph and Mary; brother, Joe; sister, Rosalie Liptack and former wife, Vivian. Ellen Margaret Prendergast-McRae Born In: Mill Creek Born: August 28th, 1925 Passed on: March 30th, 2016 Born August 28, 1925, passed away peacefully with family on March 30, 2016. Ellen was born and raised in Mill Creek, Cape Breton. Predeceased by her husband, Scott McRae; parents, Florence and Patrick Prendergast; sisters, Mary Prendergast MacNeil, Theresa Prendergast Bannister; brothers, William, Alex and Joseph. Survived by Lillian Prendergast Wilson, Joseph Prendergast, Kathleen Prendergast Ross, Betty Prendergast MacDonald; stepson, Scott McRae and many nieces and nephews. Ellen greatly enjoyed talking about her childhood and growing up on the farm in Mill Creek, Cape Breton. In the early days she attended concerts and dances at Mill Creek School where she would stepdance to live music. She adored her family and would eventually return to Cape Breton to live. Her husband Scotty was an RCMP officer and was stationed around Canada. A highlight for her was being stationed in the far north working with First Nations communities. She shared many fascinating stories. She was devoted to her Roman Catholic faith and Cape Breton heritage. She will be greatly missed. There will be no visitation at her request. A celebration of her life and mass will occur in the chapel in St. Benedict's Church on Saturday, April 9th at 10:30 a.m., Fr. Michael Grace officiating. Donna (Dunn) Weed Born In: Sydney Born: June 20th, 1942 Passed in: Victorville Calif. Passed on: March 31st, 2016 It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Donna Weed on March 31, 2016 in Victorville, Calif., at the age of 73, after a long battle with C.O.P.D. Born in Sydney on June 20, 1942, she was the daughter of the late James and Ada (MacPhee) Dunn, formerly of Davenport Road. She had resided in California since 1964. Donna is survived by her son, Tim (Alana) Weed and the light of her life granddaughter, Ava Weed of Hesperia, Calif.; sisters, Martha (Michael) Douglas, Las Vegas, Nevada, Karen Dunn, White Rock, B.C.; nephews and nieces, James MacNeil and Linda Barbon of Calif, Vincent MacNeil, Nevada and Diana Norris, Texas; Aunt Jean MacPhee, Sydney River and close cousins, Chris MacPhee of Alberta, Debbie Mcneil-Rutz, N.S., Josephine (Daisy) Dunn, Ontario. Besides her parents, she was predeceased by her son, Tom Weed in 2001; Uncle Joseph MacPhee and Aunt Rita (MacPhee) McNeil-Rines. The family would like to thank her dear friend, Charmaine Clancy of Sydney for keeping in touch through the years and for all the long late night phone calls she shared with Donna through her illness. Cremation has taken place. Interment will be at a later date in California.
