He was the son of the late Melbourne Messenger and Gladys (Slade) Messenger, Sydney. He is survived by his loving wife, Norma (Bonnar) Messenger; daughter, Lorie Wilson, Port Hope, Ont.; son, Thomas Messenger Jr., Barrie, Ont.; son, William Messenger (Ann); Navan, Ont.; son, Scott Messenger (Nichol) (at home); brother, Donald Messenger (Theresa), Mira; sister, Mary, Sydney; many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, niece and nephews. He was predeceased by his brother, William Messenger. Tom spent 38 years in the Canadian Armed Forces, with postings in the Congo, Germany, and the Canadian Embassy in Washington D.C. He was a proud member at the Branch 12 Royal Canadian Legion. Tom loved music, and was a wonderful family man. He will be remembered hosting karaoke at several local venues, and as an avid dart league member, where he made many lifelong friends. Donations can be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation or any charity of ones choice. Cremation has taken place. Delman Hallett Passed on: April 24th, 2016 It is with heartfelt sadness that we, the family, announce the sudden passing of Delman Hallett of Glace Bay on April 24, 2016. Delman was the son of the late George and Maude (Fiander) Hallett. He was employed with the Town of Glace Bay for over 20 years until his retirement. Delman was an avid outdoorsman with a love for hunting and fishing and during the winter watching the Toronto Maple Leafs play. Another joy was listening to music and he had a big heart for his animals. He is survived by daughter, Suzan (Micki); sons, Lee and Melvin; grandson, Michael; sisters, Vivian (late John) Sturgess, Frances (Don) MacCoy, Beulah (late Ron) Binks and Carol (Glenn) Miller; brothers, Willard (Rose) Hallett and numerous nieces and nephews. Besides his parents, he was predeceased by brothers, Percy, Arthur, Melvin, Gordon and sister, Ellen Catherine. Visitation for the late Mr. Hallett will be Thursday 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. at Patten Funeral Home, 71 Union St., Glace Bay. Theresa Carmella Wadden Born In: Glace Bay Passed in: Glace Bay Passed on: April 24th, 2016 With deepest sorrow, we announce the passing of our mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, Theresa Wadden age 86, on April 24, 2016 at the Glace Bay Hospital. Born in Glace Bay, she was the daughter of the late Collie and Muriel (Layes) MacKinnon. Theresa was a member of St. Anne’s Church and attended St. Anne’s School in Glace Bay. In her earlier years, she worked at Highland Fisheries. Theresa loved to dance and spend time with her grandchildren. She also enjoyed spending time at her summer home in Island View. Theresa is survived by daughters, Anne Wadden, Reserve Mines, Margaret (Al) Ratcliffe, Fort St. John, B.C, Bernadette Wadden, Alliston Ont., Myrna Wadden, Glace Bay, Gina Hibbs, Donkin; sons, Robert (Kim) Glace Bay, Donald , Hamilton Ont., Eugene , Oshawa Ont.; sisters, Madeline King, Oshawa , Ont., Theresa Hill, Glace Bay; brother, Fabian MacKinnon, Glace Bay. Also surviving are 26 grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren. Besides her parents, Theresa was predeceased by her husband, Len Wadden and sons, Joe and Brian. Visitation will be held Thursday, April 28, 2016 from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. in V.J. McGillivray Funeral Home, 16 Reserve St., Glace Bay. The funeral mass officiated by Fr. Norman MacPhee, will be celebrated on Friday, April 29, 2016 at 2 p.m. in St. Anne’s Church, Glace Bay. A reception will follow in the church foyer. Rosemary Elizabeth Gouthro Born In: Frenchvale Born: July 22nd, 1926 Passed in: Sydney Passed on: April 25th, 2016 We, the family of Rosemary Elizabeth Gouthro, regret to announce her passing on Monday, April 25, 2016, in the palliative care unit of the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, Sydney. Born July 22, 1926, in Frenchvale, she was a daughter of the late Stephen and Agnes (Currie) MacLean. Rosemary was a member of St. Anthony Daniel parish, Sydney and St. Mary’s parish, Frenchvale. A business owner, she ran a telephone answering service, retiring at the age of 75. Rosemary is survived by her daughter, Carmella (Casimer) Peinsznski, Dutch Brook; sons, Stephen (Mary) and Gerard, Sydney; sisters, Patsy MacLellan, Sydney, Ann (Brian) Finney, Northside East Bay, Bishie MacInnis, Halifax and Jennie Roch (Joe), Boston, Mass.; brothers, John (Eileen), Pennsylvania and David (Juanita), Toronto, Ont.; grandchildren, Rachel, Jolene, Sandi and Crystal; great-grandchildren, Michael, Madison, Camden, Jaycee, Jade, Mason and Emily. Donald Alexander 'Dan Alex' Morrison Born: September 10th, 1943 Passed on: April 24th, 2016 We, the family of Donald Alexander ‘Dan Alex’ Morrison, are deeply saddened to announce his unexpected passing on Sunday, April 24, 2016. Dad was the eldest of his six siblings, born to the late William and Helen Morrison on Sept. 10, 1943. He lived his entire life in Loch Lomond and wore many hats providing for his family. He began his career as an electrician and later, learned new trades. As the owner/operator of Loch Lomond Construction, he may have paved your driveway, built your road or constructed your cabin. For over 35 years, he was plowing our roads during the winter months with DOT. For fun, Dad enjoyed a good game of cards and was a former member of the Loch Lomond mixed dart league. In his younger years, he enjoyed harness racing (in which he owned a couple of prized horses) and competing in ski-doo races. Dad had a passion for politics and was entertained by a good debate. He was very persuasive until he won. For 17 years, he served on the Richmond County School Board and for 15 years, served as county councillor for district 10, serving on numerous boards. Closer to home, Dad was an elder of Calvin Presbyterian Church, Loch Lomond, a member of the Pioneer Cemetery committee, one of the founding members of the Loch Lomond Heritage Association and the Loch Lomond Volunteer Fire Department. We are very proud and thankful for our Dad and Poppy. We were very lucky. Dad is survived by his friend and former wife, Vivian, whom he could still count on for a cup of tea and a meal; his four daughters, Donna, Howie Centre, Dana Campbell, Sydney River, Crystal (Jason) Robicheau, Porters Lake and Carrie, Coxheath; 11 grandchildren, Ryan (Sheri), Patrick (Deanna), Kenzie, Jonathan and Liam Campbell; Tailor, Tanner, Bethany and Sarah Robicheau; Shamus and Sean Morrison; three great-grandchildren, Dylan, Lily and Hannah Campbell; sisters, Ann Neil, Halifax and Wilma (Gordon) Rhodenizer, Bridgewater; brothers, David, Donkin and Bobby, out west; numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and close friends. Besides Grandpa and Nana, he was predeceased by his brothers, Kenneth and Peter; father and mother-in-law, Edward and Annie MacLeod. Visitation will take place at Sydney Memorial Chapel on Wednesday from 2-4 & 7-9 p.m. Funeral service will be held in the chapel on Thursday 11 a.m., with Rev. Corrie Stewart officiating. Judith Claire MacIntyre Born In: Sydney Born: November 11th, 1942 Passed in: Irish Vale Passed on: April 25th, 2016 It is with deep sadness that we announce the death of Judith Claire MacIntyre, 73, who passed away suddenly at home in Irish Vale on Monday, April 25, 2016. Born Nov. 11, 1942 in Sydney’s Northend, she was the daughter of the late James and Anna (Walker) Christopher. She was an NDP supporter and a member of the Sacred Heart parish of Johnstown. Judy is survived by her husband of 52 years Charles MacIntyre and their children, Charles James, Courtney, BC; Judith Charlene, Edmonton, Alta. and Terrence Hector, Marble Mountain; grandchildren, Shaughn, Janessa, Madison, Evan and Katherine and brother, Terrence Christopher, Ontario. She was predeceased by an infant son, Joseph John in 1964. Visitation for Mrs. MacIntyre will take place from 2-4 & 7-9 p.m. on Friday at T.W.Curry Parkview Chapel. Margaret Christine MacKinnon Margaret MacKinnon, 75, of New Waterford passed away Friday, April 22, 2016 at the QEII Halifax Infirmary. Born in New Waterford, she was the daughter of the late James and Effie (MacKinnon) MacLellan. She is survived by her daughters Chalene MacKinnon, New Waterford, Marlene (Sam Currie) MacKinnon, Port Hawkesbury, Rosanna (Bill Melnick) MacKinnon, Dominion, brothers James (Yvette), Ont., Bill (Debbie), North Sydney, grandchildren Chris (Tracy Pollock) MacKinnon and Victoria Currie, great-grandchildren Alexis and Crystal and great-great-grandchild Isabella. She was predeceased by her husband Terrance 'Terry', sisters Doreen Sabourin and Murial MacDonald. Visitation will take place on Wednesday April 27, 2016 from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. at McLellan Brothers Funeral Home, 3183 Plumber Avenue, New Waterford.
