Clark - 86 yrs Clare Larade - 82 yrs Frances Ann “Fran” Wolodko - Edith Theresa Healey - David James “Cash” Yates - 61 yrs Edith Mary Louise (Were) Fraser - 104 yrs Mary Gwendolyn Oulton - 88 yrs Helen “Nellie” Muise - 91 yrs Arthur Wayne Melanson With broken hearts and loving memories we announce the passing of Arthur Wayne Melanson at the age of 63. Wayne passed away peacefully on April 12, 2016. Wayne was a caring, generous man with a wonderful sense of humour. Family and friends always came first for Wayne. He was a loyal son, a caring brother to Deborah, a loving husband to Cathy, a beaming father to Alan, a very proud grandfather to Zoe and Evan and a true friend to many. Wayne enjoyed many hobbies. He loved playing chess, pool, tarabish, horse shoes and road hockey with his son. He was a “True Blue” fan who looked forward to watching St. Louis. He loved science fiction, especially anything associated with Dr. Who. Listening to Rod Stewart, spending time with his fur baby Timmy, reminiscing and laughing with his best friend Rosanna, were also passions for Wayne. Wayne worked at citizenship Canada for more than 25 years until he retired in April 2010. Wayne was adored by his colleagues and is often remembered for his knowledge of policies and lifelong friendships he made. Wayne is survived by his loving wife, Cathy (MacInnis); son, Alan (Melinda); grandchildren, Zoe and Evan; sister, Deborah (Walter) Demone; aunt and uncle Reg (Carol) Norman; mother-in-law, Iva MacInnis; brothers and sisters-in-law, Karen, John (Lindsay), Gordon (Janet), Laurie (Bob) and many nieces and nephews. Wayne was predeceased by his parents, Arthur and Joyce (Norman) Melanson and fatherin-law, Gordon MacInnis. Cremation has taken place. A celebration of life will be held on Tuesday, April 19, 2016 at 3 p.m. in the SW Chant & Son Funeral Home Chapel, 564 Alexandra St., Sydney, with Rev. Sheldon Chant officiating. In lieu of flowers, the family would appreciate donations to the Canadian Diabetic Association in Wayne’s name. Patrick 'Buddy' Kane Born In: New Waterford Passed on: April 14th, 2016 Patrick ‘Buddy’ Kane, age 85, a former resident of Smith Street, New Waterford, passed away on Thursday, April 14, 2016 at Alderwood Rest Home, Baddeck. Born in New Waterford, Buddy was the son of the late Roy and Mamie (Ryan) Kane. Buddy was a bartender at the Army, Navy, Airforce Hall, New Waterford for 26 years, he was also a life member as well. He served with the Canadian military during the Korean conflict. Buddy enjoyed playing crib, tarabish, darts and in his younger years he was involved with boxing. He always had a quick come back to whatever anyone said. Buddy is survived by his daughter, Linda (Allie), grandson, Warren, granddaughters, Kathy (Sheldon), Sherri (Richard), Melanie, eight great-granddaughters, Jessica, Kayla, Madisyn, Courtney, Elizabeth, Brianna, Zoe, Mya and one great-grandson, Myles. He was predeceased by his brother, Roy, sisters, Bea (Willie), Fernie (Jim), daughter, Cathy, granddaughter, Melanie, grandson, Brian Marusiak Jr. and son in law, Brian Marusiak Sr. No visitation. Cremation has taken place under the direction of V.J. McGillivray Funeral Home, 380 Smith St., New Waterford. The funeral mass officiated by Fr. Ray Huntley is Tuesday, 10 a.m. in St. Leonard Church followed by interment in St. Agnes Cemetery. The reception will be held in the Army/Navy/Air Force Hall, Smith Street, New Waterford. Mildred Edwardine Rudderham Edwardsville It is with heavy hearts that we, the family, announce the passing of Mildred Rudderham at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, Sydney on April 15, 2016. Born in Edwardsville, she was the daughter of the late Hadley and Margaret (MacDonald) Rudderham. In her early years, she was employed with Eatons, Woolco and retired as the office manager at Canadian Tire. She was an avid sports fan of the Toronto Maple Leafs, the Screaming Eagles and Toronto Blue Jays. Mildred managed the Edwardsville School hockey team to a championship. She played darts at the Brookshaven Recreation Centre for many years. Mildred’s highlight in life was meeting Don Cherry. She always enjoyed helping someone in need. Mildred is survived by her sisters, Marie ( Jackie) Smith, North River; her special nephew and nieces, Billy (Clara), Barbara (Eldon), Rose Ann (Gus), Debbie (Dave), many other nieces and nephews as well as her four legged special friend, Missy. Besides her parents, she was predeceased by her sisters, Marg, Belle and Alma; brothers, Carl, Thomas ‘Bricky’ Malcolm ‘Dookie’. Funeral arrangements are under the direction of … Gerald Daniel McNeil Westmount It is with heavy hearts that we announce the sudden passing of a very loving husband, father and grandfather, Gerald Daniel McNeil, age 71, of Westmount, on Wednesday, April 13, 2016 at home. Born on Aug. 14, 1944, he was the son of the late Daniel “Blue Eyes” and Catherine (McBride) McNeil. In 1968 he married the love of his life Sandra (MacIntyre) McNeil, in Toronto, Ont. Gerald graduated from George Brown College in Toronto. He was a welder at the Sydney Steel Corporation from 1973-2000. He was an avid card player, Johnny Reid fan, baseball player, soccer coach, boxing fan, and Scouts Canada Volunteer. Gerald was a great storyteller of the good old days growing up in Glace Bay. His famous expression for dispensing advice, “There are two kinds of people in this world. The awares, and the dimly awares. Don’t be dimly lit.” He is survived by his wife, Sandra; daughters, Lindsay (Patrick), New Zealand, Cheryl (Alan), Toronto; sons, Sean (Carol), George’s River, Chad (Tanya), Howie Center; granddaughters, Kirsty, Rachel; grandson, Harrison (Little Buddy). He is also survived by brother, Francis (Marie), Reserve; sister, Marilyn (Patrick Murphy), Halifax; nieces, Lisa, Holly, Katherine; nephew, Francis Jr. He was predeceased by his Ellen N. Clark - 86 yrs Sydney Mines We, the family of Ellen Naismith Clark, 86, announce her peaceful passing on Thursday, April 14, 2016, surrounded by her family, at St. Vincent’s Nursing Home, Halifax, where she had resided the past two years. Ellen was born the daughter of Charles and Elsie Walker in Sydney Mines, where she spent the majority of her life. While at St. Vincent’s, Ellen made many new friends, but her heart longed for the Island she missed. Ellen was a member of Carman United Church, and active in the UCW. She was also an avid bowler, and enjoyed knitting and quilting. She is survived by her daughter, Kathy Beazley (Ken), Middle Sackville, and her son, Ricky (Heather), Sydney Mines; grandchildren, Raymond and Joseph Beazley and Chris and Karen Clark. She is also survived by her loving sister, Irene Wright (Gordon) and family, Lunenburg, whose love and devotion will always be remembered. She is also survived by her brother, Bill (Phyllis), Sydney. She will be sadly missed by her close friend and sister-inlaw, Marion Walker, as well as many nieces and nephews. Besides her parents, Ellen was predeceased by her husband, Ernie (1986), and son, Kenneth (2003); as well as brothers, Donald and Frank and her sister, Vera Young. Ellen spent her final days much as she had spent her life, surrounded by those who loved her; recalling stories and lending strength. Clare Larade Sydney/New Waterford We regret to announce the passing of Clare Larade, age 82 of Sydney on Wednesday, April 13, 2016 at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital following a brief illness. Born in New Waterford, he was the son of the late Simmie and Nora (Cathcart) Larade. Clare retired from Transport Canada as a firefighter at Sydney Airport. He was owner/operator of Simeon’s Restaurant, first in New Waterford and presently in Sydney. In his early years, Clare played basketball with the Strands and baseball with the Giants, both teams are hall of fame inductees. Clare performed a lot of behind the scenes work in organizing and setting up these teams along with fundraising for both; he was also a former member of the New Waterford Rotary Club. Clare was a veteran of the Korean Conflict. Clare is survived by his wife, Sharon (MacDonald) Larade, two sons, Howard (Sandra), Darren (Christine), two daughters, Cindy Polegato (Robert), Carol Lee Larade (Rodney) and their mother, Florine. He is also survived by his eight grandchildren, Haleigh, Kyle, Kendall, Aidan, Angelina, Jillian, Jennifer, Lauren and his three brothers, Joe, Greg and Bob Larade. Besides his parents, Clare was predeceased by his sister, Helen MacLeod. No visitation. Cremation has taken place under the direction of V.J. McGillivray Funeral Home, 380 Smith Street, New Waterford. The funeral mass officiated by Fr. Ray Huntley is on Tuesday, May 3, 2016 at 10 a.m. in St. Leonard Church, New Waterford followed by a reception in the parish hall on Convent Street, New Waterford.
