He was the son of Ruth (Thompson) Latham and the late Jerome O'Neill. Kenneth is survived by his cherished daughter, Kenna; sisters, Heather Lynn (Danny), someone he could also turn to, Kelly-Jo (Rob), Amanda (Jeff), Jami (Drew); his only brother and best friend Craig. He is also survived by his stepdad Ross Latham; grandmother, Frances Thompson, with whom he held a special spot for in his heart; nieces and nephews, Matthew, Craig, Keegan, Spencer, Riley and Kaleigh; his uncle Stewart who he would depend on at times as well as his cousin, Bobby (Mairi), whom he had a special bond with. Besides his father, he was predeceased by his grandparents, Stewart Thompson Sr., James and Mary O'Neill. Those who knew Kenneth, knew he had a big heart and always a smile on his face. He was loved and will be missed by many. Cremation has taken place. A private memorial service for family and friends will be held at a later date. Donations may be made to a charity of choice. Margaret (Heffernan) Joyce Born In: Sydney Passed in: Sydney Passed on: April 9th, 2016 Surrounded by her loving family, Margaret passed away peacefully on Saturday, April 9, 2016 in the Palliative Care Unit at Cape Breton Regional Hospital. Born in Sydney, June 1922, Margie was the daughter of the late Jacob and Margaret (Emberly) Heffernan. She graduated from Holy Angels Convent in 1940 and from St. Joseph’s School of Nursing in Glace Bay in 1944 as a registered nurse. After raising her family she did a Nurses Refresher Program and worked for 12 years at St. Rita’s Hospital. Margie was a member of St. Theresa’s Ladies Aid, Steelworkers and Pensioners Club, Club 55, St. Joseph Hospital Nurses Alumnae, Sydney and District Heartbeats and St. Theresa’s CWL. She is survived by sons, James ‘Jimmy’ (Elaine Cadegan) Joyce, Robert ‘Bobby’(Elaine Ross) Joyce, both of Sydney and her daughter, Pauline (Kevin) Collins of Brighton, Ontario. Marg is also survived by her sister, Teresa Browne, Coxheath and her brother-in-law, Vince MacDonald, Sydney; seven grandchildren, Donnie (Carla Maxner) Joyce, Sydney, Helen Joyce, Sydney, Natalie (Paul) Sterbenc, Calgary, Dawn Joyce Keshen (Aaron Keshen), Halifax, Shauna Joyce, Sydney, Jennifer Collins (Greg Lanthier) and Suzanne (Dave) McCormack, both from Ottawa; seven great-grandchildren Noah and Emily Joyce, Emma, Isaac and Sadie Keshen and Colin and Emily McCormack; as well as many nieces and nephews. Marg was predeceased by her husband Alfred, April 15 2004, sister and spouses, Mary (Arthur) MacKinnon, Dorothy (Ted) Shea, Catherine (Frank) O’Shea, Pauline (Ernest) Gillis, Alice MacDonald and brothers, Frank (Sadie Fitzgerald) Heffernan and James (Nikki Clancey) Heffernan and brother-in-law, Kevin Browne. Visitation will be held 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. on Tuesday, April 12 at T.W. Curry Parkview Chapel. Funeral mass will be celebrated 11 a.m. on Wednesday, April 13 at St. Theresa’s Church, Sydney. Rev Dennis Lamey will officiate. Interment in St. Theresa’s Cemetery, Sydney beside her husband. Reception following the mass at St. Theresa’s Hall. It would be appreciated that instead of flowers, donations in Marg’s memory be made to the Palliative Care Unit at Cape Breton Regional Hospital, Cape Breton Regional Hospital Foundation or CNIB.
