After a courageous battle Dad passed away peacefully at the age of 81 surrounded by his family. Born in Sydney on July 4, 1934, he was the only child of the late Lorne and Edna MacKinnon of Sydney. Dad is survived by his one true love of 54 years Yvonne (Pettipas) MacKinnon; daughter, Kara (Bill) Fennell; son, Troy (Rachael) MacKinnon and by his four beautiful and brave granddaughters, Lauren, Sara Kate, Chloe and Ella. Also by his amazing sisters-in-law and their husbands, he was always grateful for mom’s big family. Dad was a hard worker his whole life and was not afraid to try something new. As a young man he worked as a surveyor a job that took him to northern Canada. Later dad started his own business, Parkside Realty Property Management. He and Mom also owned and operated the North End Dairy and Fabri Zone Carpet Cleaners. Dad was a long time member of the Sydney Y’s Men and was active until his illness. He served as president for a term and was a force to be reckoned with when it came to the Y’s Men Christmas Cheer peanut drive. Dad was a faithful blood donor for most of his life and received several awards from the Canadian Red Cross Society for his donations. He loved meeting people and hearing their story which he never forgot and he seemed to always know someone who knew someone who knew someone. We would like to thank all who helped dad during his illness at the CBRH. Thank you to the staff of the ER, CCU, ICU, 4A, 4B, and Palliative Care. Especially to Dr. Greg Myatt and staff for your excellent care and kind words, Thanks for the nine lives. In keeping with Dad’s wishes there will be no visitation.
