Betty passed away April 22, 2016 at Miner’s Memorial Manor, Sydney Mines. Born in Cape Jack, Havre Boucher, she was the daughter of the late Mark and Mary Rose (Breen) DeCoste. She was the last surviving member of her immediate family. She was a loyal member of St. Mary’s parish, East Bay. Betty will be fondly remembered as a loving devoted mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. Betty’s family always came first she was a talented seamstress, artist and amazing cook. She is survived by daughters Joan, Jacqueline (Gareth) Hoar and their son David; Marion (Rev. David) Hann and their children Chantel, Mason, Amy and Cyril; Karen (Shawn); sons Alvin (Isabel) and their children Anne (Sean) and Mark; Lloyd (Mary) and their children Danielle, Dolores (Alex); Tim (Estelle), Terry (Simone) and Lawrence; great- grandchildren Elliot, Victor, Theo, Aurelia and Emily. Betty was predeceased by her husband Timothy LeVangie, son Justin 'Jackie' Armond, sister Anna Rita DeCoste, and brothers Edgar, Everett and Raymond. Visitation for Betty LeVangie will take place at T.W. Curry Parkview Chapel on Sunday, April 24, 2016 from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Funeral mass will be celebrated at 11a.m. on Monday, April 25, 2016 at St. Mary’s Church, East Bay with Rev. Lawrence 'Larry' Hugh MacIsaac Passed on: April 19th, 2016 photo/tjtracey logo MACISAAC, Lawrence 'Larry' Lawrence 'Larry' Hugh MacIsaac of Beaver Cove, Cape Breton, Nova Scotia formerly of Sydney passed away peacefully at the Victoria General Hospital, Halifax on April 19, 2016. Born in Fitchburg, Massachusetts, USA he was the son of Laurence and Anna MacIsaac (nee Mackinnon). Predeceased by his wife of 52 years Helen MacIsaac (nee Zembal) and brother Daniel. Survived by his daughter Anna, Halifax, son Lawrence, Calgary, granddaughter Laura, son-in-law Craig Bradshaw, Elizabeth Sagasta, whom he considered his Spanish daughter and brother Jack. After working for IBM for 35 years he retired to Beaver Cover with his wife Helen where they built their dream home on top of the hill. Larry spent his time wood working, fly fishing, making wine and brewing some of the best homemade beer. Never needing a reason to sing we will dearly miss his repertoire of everything from saucy ditties to classic jazz. Funeral services will be held this summer at St. Columba Church Iona. Walter Joseph Lawrence Born In: Glace Bay Passed in: Glace Bay Passed on: April 20th, 2016 It is with deep sadness that we announce the sudden passing of our dearly loved father, grandfather, brother, and great-grandfather on Wednesday, April 20, 2016, at his home on Phalen’s Road, where he lived for the last 46 years. Joe was 80 years young. Born in Glace Bay, and a former resident of Highland Street, he was the son of the late Walter and Cecilia (Gilday) Lawrence. Joe began working at a young age delivering milk from Maple Grove Dairy. At age 17 he started working in Broughton Four Star Mine as a coal miner and then later with Devco as a mechanical fitter/welder at the Glace Bay Central shops for over 20 years. Joe retired in 1992 and enjoyed many years with his wife and family at his favourite place “Out on the Mira” at the bungalow where he enjoyed 56 years of family and many wonderful times with friends. Dad was a kind and caring man with a wonderful sense of humor. He was always busy, whether he was fixing cars, replacing roofs, or plowing snow, his hands were never still. He enjoyed several hobbies, his favourite being darts. He and Mom spent many years playing darts at the McKay’s Corner Dart League and also the Reserve Pensioners Club where he made many wonderful friends. Dad also loved to play cards with his grandchildren. He could be found walking Phalen’s Road daily and always had time to stop and chat. Joe is survived by his daughter Joanne (John Phalen), four sons Keith (Murray) Lawrence-Williamson. London, Ont., Ronnie (Alison), Scott (Cathy) Glace Bay and Michael (Elsbeth) Lorne. He will be greatly missed by grandchildren Catherine (Greg), Christopher, Trevor, Kyle, Aidan, Jenna (Mason), James and Samual; one great-grandchild Ella-Joe. Also survived by four brothers Bill (Betty), Raymond (Anne), Teddy (Brenda), Darrell (AnnMarie); sisters Jeanette and Paul Quellette, B.C. Marie Koziel (late Billie), Anne and David Maclean, Barbara Morrison (late Sandy), Joan and Stephen Churney and many nieces and nephews. Also survived by his Aunt Ruth Taylor and Uncle Jim Gilday both of London Ontario. Besides his parents, Joe was predeceased by his wife Elsie (Brufatto) in 2005, twin brothers Douglas and Michael and Duncan, sister Betty and brothers-in-law James MacKenzie, Sandy Morrison, Bill Koziel, sister-in-law Irene Lawrence, as well as his in-laws Richard and Cordella Brufatto. Visitation will be held on Sunday April 24, 2016 from 5-9 p.m. at Curry’s Funeral Home, Main Street, Glace Bay. The funeral mass officiated by Fr. Boudreau will be at 11 a.m. Monday, April 25 at St. Joseph’s Church, Reserve Mines, reception is to follow at church hall. Interment will be held at a later date at St. Joseph Holy Family Cemetery.
