Loretta was born in North Sydney, N.S., on July 21, 1933, to the late Mary (Gillis) and Murdock MacKinnon, Sydney Mines. After attending high school in Mabou, she spent most of her life in Saint John, N.B., as a Sister of Charity of the Immaculate Conception (SCIC). It was in Saint John that she began her teaching career, and she retired as principal of St. Vincent’s High School. She was held in high esteem by both her students and staff. Loretta was multitalented in many areas, but loved music above all. She not only sang, but also played both piano and organ. Loretta possessed a wonderful zest for life, and was always ready for a challenge to learn and absorb new ideas. Loretta is survived by her sisters, Anne MacKinnon and Miriam Deveaux (Terry); as well as brothers, Francis 'Farmer' (Mary Steele) and Paul 'Moose' (Denise McDonnell). She is also survived by her nieces, Jenn MacKinnon-Cooper (Shawn), and Rosalie Horsford (Andrew); as well as nephews, Stephen Deveaux (Robyn), Corey Deveaux (Stephanie Myles) and Russell MacKinnon. She will be greatly missed by her cherished and closest friend, Marilyn Olding, and her wonderful family, who were all so kind to her. Special thanks to the wonderful caregivers of Citadel Court, Parkstone Enhanced Care. They gave great care to Loretta. She also received loving care from the staff of Evan Hall. Cremation has taken place. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. Joseph’s Church, North Sydney, on Thursday, April 7, 2016, at 10 a.m. with Fr. Patrick O’Neill officiating. A reception will follow. Burial to take place at St. Joseph’s Cemetery, Sydney Mines, at a later date. Donations may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association, or a charity of your choice. Clarence Edwin 'Duckie' Snow Born In: Sydney Born: February 15th, 1926 Passed in: Sydney Passed on: April 3rd, 2016 With sadness, we, the family of Clarence Edwin 'Duckie' Snow, regret to announce his passing on Sunday, April 3, 2016, at his home on Upper Prince Street, Sydney. Dad died peacefully surrounded by the ones that truly loved him. Born Feb. 15, 1926, in Sydney, Duckie was a son of the late Winnifred (Youden) Marsh and raised by his grandparents, the late John and Margaret Youden. After 41 years of service, he retired from Sydney Steel, where he was employed as a millwright in the bar mill department. An avid sportsman, Duckie loved the Toronto Maple Leafs and the Screaming Eagles, as well as an owner of standard bred horses. Duckie is survived by his loving wife of 69 years, Mary (Follett); daughters, Gloria (Bernie) Lush, Port Hawkesbury and Beverly (Tommy) Hayes, Mira; sons, Kansas (Judy), Sydney, Larry (Darlene), Glace Bay and Jerry (Chris), Sydney; sister, Peggy (Garfield) Ross, Sydney; stepbrothers, John Marsh, Sydney and Alf Marsh, Ont.; sisters-in-law, Sis (Charlie) MacKeigan, Sydney and Jennie Follett, Placentia, Nfld.; aunt, Olive Leyte, Sydney; 18 grandchildren; numerous great-grandchildren; many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his stepbrothers, Frank, Moe, Bill, Clem and Donnie Marsh. Visitation will take place at Sydney Memorial Chapel on Wednesday from 1-2 p.m., followed by a service in the chapel at 2 p.m., Rev. Robert Lyle officiating. Ida Rachel (Nash) Kinslow Born In: Glace Bay Passed in: Oshawa, Ontario, Canada Passed on: April 2nd, 2016 It is with heartfelt sadness that we, the family, announce the passing of Ida Rachel Kinslow on April 2, 2016 in her 97th year at Hillsdale Estates, Oshawa, Ont. Beloved daughter of the late Herbert and Etta Nash, cherished wife of the late Albert Kinslow for 54 years. Ida resided most of her life in Glace Bay, and spent the last 15 years in Oshawa with her children. She enjoyed her bingo and card games with her friends. Loving mother of Mae Bell (late Larry) and Charles (Linda); proud grandmother of Lori, the late Kimberley, Kevin and special Nan to Cori; great-grandmother of Ryan, Adam, Matthew, Joseph and Sage. She is also survived by brothers, Charles, Rueben, Rev. Arthur (Emily) and Les (Ruth); sisters, Eileen MacLellan and Barbara Andrews. Stella Heinekamp Born In: New Waterford Passed on: April 2nd, 2016 It is with great sadness we, the family, announce the passing of Stella Heinekamp on Sat. April 2, 2016 surrounded by her loving family. Born in New Waterford, she was the daughter of the late John and Stella (Power) Hinchey. Stella was a loving wife, mother and homemaker. As an avid community volunteer, Stella reached out to many and enjoyed all she did for her family and friends. She was a member of the legion for many years and past treasurer. Stella also enjoyed playing cards, darts, going to penny auctions and her music. She loved to volunteer, luncheons at the legion, Heart and Stroke campaigns, the Cancer Society drives and the yearly poppy campaigns all received her undivided attention. Most of all, she loved to be “Out on the Mira” at the trailer sitting around a cheerful camp fire with good friends and family. Stella is survived by her husband, Bernie (Sonny); daughters, Brenda (Jack), Maureen (Kenny), Donna, Sheila (Nick) and Anita (Colin) and son, Blair (Cheryl); sisters, Jackie (Mel), Judy (Lawrence), Deanie and Flossie; grandchildren, Brenda Lee (Cory), Lisa (JW), Jennifer (Derek), Gregory, Billy, Wayne, Jason, Blaine, Blair, Aiden, Brendon, Maria, Megan and Vanessa; great-grandchildren, Haley, Jade, Kane, Marissa, Brianna, Xander, Claire, Aluk, Skylar, Owen, Arionna E. and Alyssa V. Besides hes parents, she was also predeceased by her son, John; sisters, Marjorie, Shirley, Peggy, Christy, Dotty; brothers, Bill (Slugger), Edward (Ned), David James and baby David; as well as twin girls in infancy. Cremation has taken place. A chapel service will be held on Thursday, April 7, 2016 at 11 a.m. with Fr. Ray Huntley officiating. Interment in Mount Carmel Cemetery followed by a luncheon at the Royal Canadian Legion, Plummer Avenue, all are welcome.
