Murray John Hooper Passed on: August 25th, 2017 It is with great sadness that we, the family of Murray John Hooper, 88, of Sydney River, announce his passing on Friday, August 25, 2017, at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, Sydney. Born in Sydney, he was the son of the late Charles and Elizabeth (Neald) Hooper. Murray worked as a licensed auto mechanic, specializing in auto body repair, a talent he developed at a young age when, as a teen, he started repairing and modifying Ford Model Ts. Mechanics and body work propelled him into a long life as a jack of all trades but, unlike many with that title, he became a master of all. He constructed his first house before he was 20 years old and didn’t stop there. He could repair anything from automobiles to houses to appliances. He constructed bungalows in his yard for later transport to and assembly on site, built boats and fashioned beautiful furniture for many. If something was worth doing, he did it right. It was a beautiful calm morning and knowing that her husband Johnny had been patiently waiting for her, she decided to finally join him and go fishing. Before mom passed away, she said; "you know your father has had plenty of time fishing by himself. It's time for me to go join him". If you knew Lorna and Johnny, then you'd know that their love for each other was a gift to witness. But for as much as she missed Johnny, she still loved life. She was a brilliant woman, a lifelong learner, always reading, always gaining more knowledge. She was an incredible gardener and she loved plants; she made art out of living things and it was beautiful. Mom always said that all she ever wanted to do in her life was be a wife, mother and to have a family. She was orphaned as a child, so family meant everything to her. She dedicated her life to being a mother and later she perfected her skills as a grandmother. Her grandchildren became the very heartbeat in her chest and gave her more joy and happiness in her later years than anything else. She was known by many names in life, Lorna, Mom, Grammie and Goingie, but in the end, she always preferred the majestic title of GRANDMOTHER. Lorna is survived by her sons, Jack, Fred (Raylene), and daughter, Madonna (Mary); grandchildren, Breton (Brittany), Zachary, Gabriel, Rowan, Holly, Julia, Jess and Sarah, and brother, Frederick ‘Buddy’ MacKenzie. She will be missed by all who knew her. Cremation has taken place under the care and direction of V.J. McGillivray Funeral Home, 380 Smith St., New Waterford. There will be no visitation or funeral services. In lieu of flowers, please be extra kind to each other and feed a hungry belly, or make a memorial donation to the Cape Breton Cancer Centre at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, Sydney. At this time, we would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to the wonderful nurses from the VON who cared for our mother the past few years and a special thanks to Dr. Littlejohn and the nursing staff at the New Waterford Consolidated Hospital. Online condolences to the family may be expressed at; www.vjmcgillivray.ca. Jordan MacInnis We, the family regret to announce the sudden passing of Jordan Allen MacInnis in Halifax, NS on August 20th, 2017. Jordan was born in Pembroke, Ontario on March 18th, 1986 to a military family. He completed a Bachelor of Arts degree with a major in Philosophy and a minor in Religious Studies from Saint Francis Xavier University in Antigonish, NS. Jordan is survived by his father (Allen), sister (Miranda), brother (Bryce), niece (Eden), nephew (Gavin), paternal grandfather (Roddie), and many aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends that loved Jordan and who were impacted by his presence. Jordan is predeceased by his mother (Jane), paternal grandmother (Kay of Georges River, Cape Breton, NS), maternal grandparents (Jackie and Oswald of Chapeau, Quebec), and Uncles Gregory and George. Jordan was a self- taught guitarist and musician. He deeply loved guitars, video games, computers, and his niece and nephew. Anything Jordan became interested in during his life he became great at. Jordan lived his life on a quest for knowledge. His in-depth understanding of Philosophy and Religious Studies combined with his intelligent and curious mind enabled him to seek knowledge of all that he could throughout his 31 years with us on Earth. We are comforted knowing that Jordan is able to continue his quest with his mother and family members by his side. Cremation has taken place through Atlantic Funeral Homes and a private service will take place at a later date in Chapeau, Quebec. In lieu of donations or flowers, please engage in any act of kindness and understanding to honour Jordan. Jordan’s family wishes to extend a thank you to all who have sent thoughts, prayers and messages of support during this difficult time. Jordan’s memory will live on through all we do and through the connections he has made with those who cared for him. “Carry on my wayward son. For there’ll be peace when you are done. Lay your weary head to rest. Don’t you cry no more.” We will always remember.

During that time, John participated in an exercise show on TV to promote fitness and healthy life style. He also participated in two exerthons to help raise money for the Y. In the second exerthon, and under the watchful eye of the director of sports at UCCB and a medical doctor, John successfully exercised for 72 hours nonstop. In the 1980's-1990's, John had a TV program on the local community channel to teach children and adults how to draw cartoons. He also worked with the school board and the summer arts program to teach and encourage children to draw. In 1983, John joined the Corps of Commissionaires. His last posting was at the Canadian Coast Guard College, retiring in 2001. John was well respected by the staff at the CCGC and his sense of humor kept him as a favorite amongst the staff. Before John’s health decline, he could be seen every Saturday morning running along the Louisbourg Highway with his fellow runners. Or he’d be running along Kings Road in preparation of another road race. For many years, John was the guy to beat in a race. After a long run, the group would enjoy a cup of coffee at a local coffee shop and reminisce about their running careers. John also enjoyed singing and playing the guitar. His love of music was a big part of his life and it stayed with him throughout the disease. He would tap along to old country music and always enjoyed when the musicians came to the Manor to spend the afternoon with the residents. A sincere thank you to the doctors, nurses, care workers and staff at Highland Manor. John received the highest level of care. He was treated with love, dignity, respect and was treated like family. A special thank you to the residents of Highland Manor who all became part of John’s family. At John’s request, there will be no visitation. Cremation has taken place. Born in Glencoe Station on March 28th, 1916, Sally was the daughter of the late Alexander (Sandy the Dancer) and Margaret (MacNeil) MacMillan. Sally always lived a vibrant and active life, raising and educating her large family with her husband, Angus. She remained devoted to her Glencoe Station roots, but she deeply loved her Mabou home and her Mabou community, leading her to become involved in numerous community, school, and church activities. The CWL, Mary's Hill Home, and her many volunteer interests gained much from her efforts. Family gatherings, especially those involving her children and their spouses, her treasured grandchildren and her great- grandchildren, as well as her relatives and friends, had a special place in her heart. She had superb cooking and baking skills and she used them to create delicious feasts loved by all. She will remain in the memory of many for her generosity of spirit, her wisdom, her quick wit, her creativity in storytelling, her keen intellect, her joy of music, nature, and friendship, her love of laughter, her many kind acts, and her cups of very hot tea. She enjoyed political and religious discussions, reading her newspapers and books, watching Sid Crosby play hockey, relaxing with her buddy, Guinness, and especially sitting on her veranda. Sally touched the lives and hearts of many, enriching their lives and sharing her wisdom, while bringing them joy, laughter, and advice. How does one describe a remarkable life of 101 years in a few words? Sally brought inspiration through actions, values, courage, love, and independence. We shall miss her dearly.
