Nelson was a lover of sports! He was a lifelong participant in many of them: baseball, hockey, curling, bowling and golf. If you visited him at home, he always had a game on TV! Nelson was also a proud son of Cape Breton. His pride of Nova Scotia was evident everywhere, in his home, on his clothing, in conversation and in his dreams. Though he spent most of his life away, he always yearned for home. Nelson was born on January 13, 1936 in New Waterford, Nova Scotia. He was the oldest of ten children to Everett and Patricia (nee Samuel) Durdle. As a young man, he joined the Royal Canadian Air Force and a Fire Fighter was born. During one of his postings, he met and fell in love with Audrey (nee Righton) Durdle. While posted to Gimili, Manitoba, they welcomed four children, Deborah, Donna, Darren and Deanna, which they lovingly called their four D’s. Nelson spent most of his career on the prairies. After 26 years with the Canadian Armed Forces, he retired as a Sergeant in Portage la Prairie, Manitoba. Not long afterwards, he and Audrey moved to Medicine Hat, Alberta where they thoroughly enjoyed their retirement. Loved ones that cleared the path for Nelson are, his beloved wife, Audrey Barbara Anne Durdle; his parents, Everett and Patricia Durdle; brother, Wally Durdle, and sister, Joyce Crane. Loved ones that will miss Nelson until they meet again are, daughters, Deborah Bayley, Donna Mainville and Deanna Durdle Lowe; son, Darren Durdle; sons-in-law, JP Mainville and Randy Austin; daughter-in-law, Charlene Durdle; grandchildren, Kalysta and Sean Mainville, Amber and Christopher Lowe, Tyler and Cody Durdle; great grandchildren, Jackson Durdle and Athena Lowe, as well as his siblings, Brenda Pastuck, Judy Green, Billy Durdle, Donnie Durdle, Freddie Durdle, Everett Durdle and Jean Hoffman. Nelson was a man that was well loved and will be terribly missed. His memory will be cherished forever. Family wishes to extend a special thank you to the staff in 2N of the Medicine Hat Regional Hospital for the exceptional care, compassion and attention they bestowed on dad over the last 8 months. “Yes, they’ll all come to see me In the shade of that old oak tree As they lay me ‘neath the green, green grass of home” The funeral service will be held in the PATTISON CHAPEL (Medicine Hat, Alberta) on Friday, November 17, 2017 at 3 p.m. with Rev. Robert Findley officiating. As an expression of sympathy, donations may be made to your local Alzheimer Society. BUGBEE It is with extreme sadness, that we heartbreakingly announce the passing of Harold Lawrence Bugbee Jr., age 49, from West Lake Ainslie, Cape Breton NS. In early June, Harold received a diagnosis of pancreatic cancer. Despite this devastating news, he showed us everyday his strength, determination, and courage to keep fighting. From day one he cancelled the negativity out of his mind and started every natural treatment his beautiful and smart wife Kelly could find him. Harold never stopped fighting, day after day, week after week; I never in my life witnessed this kind of powerful strength. Sadly, On November 5th, Harold’s soul, peacefully returned to God, as his wife Kelly and myself (sister Sherry) were by his side. As Harold's sister It's hard to find words..... But anyone whose lives were touched by him knew his heart was solid gold and strong as a lion. As long as he could be near water, woods, the earth, music, and his family his soul felt at peace. Many of these traditions will be carried on by his children. On September 24th, we pulled off a surprise wedding as Harold requested our help in marrying the love of his life Kelly. Their children, along with our family, stood by their sides for support. “Loved you yesterday, love you still, always have and always will” Harold is survived by wife, Kelly Baye; sons, Kaleb, 14, Brando, 12, Jagger, 10, daughter, Zada, 7. Also survived by his mother, Shirley Bugbee; sister, Sherry Bugbee(Gary); niece Courtney, and his beloved huskies. Predeceased by father, Harold Bugbee Sr.; grandparents, Lawrence and Mary Martell, Amos and Beatrice Bugbee; and infant son, Spirit Bugbee. We, the family, would like to extend our sincere “thank you”, to everyone for the care, support, and prayers during Harold's strong fight.... Loving appreciation goes out to Doris and Lloyd, Tammie, Dr.K and Camilla, as well as, to a couple of Harold’s many ‘good bros’, Todd and Scott. Additional, heartfelt thanks to Skip and Sylvia, Darrell and Tammy, and Johnny and Linda. Harold experienced an abundance of help, support, and love from so many more kind and caring people, who do not appear on this list. You know who you are, thank you for being a part of our journey, may you know many blessings, and that you are appreciated from deep within our hearts. A Celebration Of Life ceremony will be held in Cape Breton, on August 15th, 2018, to mark Harold’s 50th birthday, and to commemorate the life of a man who was deeply loved. Location to be determined, with further announcement. Donations can be made to mother Shirley Bugbee in trust for Harold's children. Free, like a river raging, Strong as the wind I’m facing. Chasing dreams and racing father time. Deep like the grandest canyon, Wild like an untamed stallion. If you can’t see my heart you must be blind. You can knock me down and watch me bleed, But you can’t keep no chains on me. I was born free! -Kid Rock TINGLEY We regret to announce the death of, Mary Catherine “Mayme” Tingley, which occurred at Inverness Hospital, Wednesday Novemeber 8th. Mary worked at the Inverary Manor as a PCW for many years and also cooked at a number of restaurants during her working years. In her free time she liked to knit, crochet, write poetry, do crossword puzzles, and read. Mayme was very active in the Margaree Valley Baptist Church, Inverness Palliative Care, and loved to cook for her family and friends in the community. Harold Schwartz Passed on: November 10th, 2017 Harold Schwartz, life-long champion of Cape Breton, retailer, community leader, world traveler and avid sportsman, died Friday, November 10, 2017 in Sydney at the age of 86 after a twenty- four year battle with Parkinson's disease. Harold was the son of the late Abraham and Rose (Claener) Schwartz of New Waterford. He is survived by his loving wife and best friend of 47 years, Diane Bernick Schwartz; his two children, Dr. Shoshana Schwartz Feiner of New Jersey and Noah Schwartz of Toronto; his son-in-law, Dr. Leonard Feiner, and his three adoring granddaughters, Ella, Amelia and Kate Feiner. He was the fifth of six siblings, all of whom predeceased him, Edna Schwartz, Ruth Goldbloom, Joey, Irving and Bram Schwartz, and he will be remembered as a fun-loving uncle by his many nieces and nephews. Harold was born in New Waterford and shortly thereafter, his young father died unexpectedly, leaving his mother Rose to build a business and raise six children on her own. He grew up in the retail business and was driving his family’s furniture delivery truck by the age of fourteen. At fifteen, it was decided he should attend Sydney Academy in preparation for him to take over his aunt and uncle’s Charlotte Street store, Jacobson’s Ladies Wear. As team captain, he proudly led their rugby team to the Maritime championship. Harold didn’t just take over the store; soon after he took the helm, Jacobson’s grew to include a sportswear store up the street called The Tweed and Hickory and very a popular discount operation called The Cellar. As a pillar of the Charlotte Street community and president of the Downtown Business Association, he organized downtown days and could be seen throwing balloons filled with money off of rooftops to attract shoppers. Always promoting Cape Breton, he invested in many local industries including sustainable fish farming, wind energy, and TechLink to name a few. He was a loyal supporter of CBU and was on the first leadership board of the Shannon School of Business. And when the Jeux Canada Games came to town, he was the director of the merchandising committee and for the first time in the history of the games, they made a profit! In recognition of his business achievement and his tireless community leadership, Harold was elected to the Cape Breton Business Hall of Fame in 2006. As a proud member of the Sydney Jewish community, Harold served on the Atlantic Jewish Council and was a strong supporter of Israel. Thanks to his generosity, a community center for disadvantaged children in Ben Yehuda now bears his name. In the wider community, he was a supporter of many local charities including United Way, Big Brothers Big Sisters Cape Breton, The CB Regional Hospital Foundation and the Parkinson’s Superwalk. Harold had many hobbies including sailing, tennis, skiing and golf and he made a large impact on these various communities. As the first president of the Ben Eoin Ski Club, he helped purchase the mountain that continues to provide hundreds of families the opportunity to enjoy the sport that he loved. In his early years, he served as commodore of the Dobson Yacht Club and was an active member of the Cromarty Tennis Club. After retirement, he became a fixture on his beloved Highland Links golf course in Ingonish. Despite the fact that he could barely walk due to advanced Parkinson’s, he managed to swing a golf club and was always optimistic that his game would improve at his next round. This past summer he enjoyed catching mackerel off of the wharf in Ingonish with his granddaughters and never missed an opportunity to attend a Celtic Colors concert. Although he was lucky enough to travel to more than a hundred countries in his lifetime, he always insisted that Cape Breton Island was the most beautiful spot on the planet. His funeral will take place Monday at The Sydney Memorial Chapel on Welton Street at 1 p.m. No flowers please. Memorials may be made to The Parkinson Society Maritime Region, www.parkinson.ca or 7071 Bayers Rd., Suite 150, Halifax, NS, B3L 2C2. Always known to be a night owl, she went to her final rest at her typical bedtime, 1:47 a.m., Sunday, November 5, 2017 at the Miners Memorial Manor in Sydney Mines. We will truly miss her but take much comfort in knowing that she is reunited with our father, Lorne. She was a true inspiration to all who knew her and loved her. Mom was born October 18, 1924 in Sydney Mines to her loving parents, John Clement and Mary (McQuaid) McKenna. She recently celebrated her 93rd birthday surrounded by love, laughter, family and friends. That evening, Mom and her dear sister, Theresa, also a Miners Memorial Manor resident displayed their keen sense of humour and wit that warmed the hearts of those in the room. On this night, laughter trumped tears. She has left us with many wonderful memories that we will forever cherish. Mom loved her husband, children, grandchildren and great-granddaughters unconditionally. She supported everyone, family and friends, with faith, love and kindness through all of life’s ups and downs, accomplishments and challenges. In addition to her faith and time with her family, Mom enjoyed bingo and cards, tea and late night chats and Larry King Live. Many of us share the CNN affliction, especially these days. Many thanks to the people who have added to her life with love, care and support. A special thanks to her niece, also affectionately referred to as our “oldest” sister, Madonna (Bud) Huntley. Mary Louise is forever grateful to have shared Mom’s final moments with Madonna. Words cannot express how thankful we all are for her strength, love, presence and support. She was our Rock. Sincere thanks to Dr. Michel McKeough for providing years of professional and compassionate health care to both Mom and Dad. Born in River Bourgeois, Cape Breton on May 29, 1939, George was the son of William Fraser Boyd and Mary Ellen (Bourque) Boyd. He attended St. Francis Xavier University for his undergraduate degree and Dalhousie University for his medical degree. After practicing family medicine in Neil’s Harbour and on the Northside, he completed his surgical specialty in otolaryngology at McGill University. Dr. Boyd continued to serve Cape Breton in this medical specialty for over thirty years. He always demonstrated conviction in what was right, and held himself to this high ethical standard in the way he lived. George was dedicated to his profession, with deep respect for his colleagues, an extraordinary work ethic and a drive to provide the best care for his patients, demonstrating clinical excellence and kindness. With a tremendous passion for life, George took great joy in his time with friends and family. He laughed easily and contagiously, filling all of us with the delight he felt, even in early anticipation of a punchline. He had great intellectual curiosity and a sense of adventure. Despite his impressive knowledge of history, music and culture, he engaged with such interest and wonder when friends would share their experiences, join in debate, or when other opportunities to learn presented themselves. Those who knew George felt his enormous strength. He lovingly cared for our family, protecting us, supporting us and empowering us. Beyond his commanding physical presence, he had great kindness and empathy that he expressed through his relationships with family, friends and the community. Never taking his blessings for granted, George was a man of strong faith, grateful every day for the many good things in his life. With the increasing challenges in his health over recent years, George demonstrated great courage and acceptance without complaint, adapting to his new realities with an optimism and selflessness to keep up the spirits of those who love him. Noted for her cooking and baking skills, there were many Sundays that, along with family, there would be a guest or guests join us for Sunday dinner after church. Her tea biscuits and oatcakes were enjoyed by many and would often be packed for a snack for family travelling back to Boston after vacation (many people today have her oatcake recipe as well). Her house was always open for visitors, and many will remember her saying, “You have to drop in for a cup of tea”. Mom liked her game of cards, whether it was Auction, 45s, or Bridge with her special friends Mae MacKenzie, Margaret MacLean, Jessie Gatchell, and many more. She looked forward to going to the Big Bras d’Or Fire Hall on Mondays, playing bridge with the girls on Thursday afternoon, and then heading to Southside Boularderie as soon as they had something to eat. Ethel was a member of St. John’s United Church, Big Bras d’Or, and was a member of St. John’s UCW and other committees within the church. She was also a member of the Order of the Eastern Star. Her later years were spent as a resident of the Northside Community Guest Home, where she received the very best of care. The family wishes to thank the staff of both Munro Place and Teresa Terrace for everything they did for her over those years. Mom’s family was first and foremost in her life and she was the best mother anyone could want to her sons Innes and Keith. Nanny was so proud of and loved her grandchildren Krista, Jessica, Justin and Josh. Nanny Grannie had a special place in her heart for her six great grandchildren, and they continuously made her day. She was predeceased by her husband, Leslie, in 1982; her son, Innes, in 1993, and also by her siblings, Catherine (Kit), Chris, Mary, Johnny, Donald and Allister. She is survived by her son, Keith and his wife, Chrissy; daughter-in-law, Pauline; her four grandchildren and six great grandchildren; sister-in-law, Anna MacInnis, and many nieces and nephews. Visitation for Ethel Bain will be held on Wednesday, November 8, 2017, from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. in J.M. Jobes Funeral Home, Main Street, Sydney Mines. The funeral service will take place on Thursday at 2 p.m. in St. John’s United Church, Big Bras d’Or with Dianne Kempt, DLM officiating. The burial will follow in St. James Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations in Ethel’s memory may be made to St. John’s United Church Building Fund, the Northside Community Guest Home Foundation, or charity of choice. Words of comfort may be forwarded to her family at www.jmjobesfuneralhome.com <http://www.jmjobesfuneralhome.com/>. PARUCH, Kenneth Edward It is with broken hearts and shattered spirits that my mother and I announce the passing of my hero, my Daddy, Kenneth Edward Paruch, after a courageous battle with glioblastoma. Dad passed away peacefully in my arms on Friday, November 3, 2017, in the Cape Breton Regional Hospital An Cala unit. A beloved father, husband, son, brother, uncle, and friend, my Dad enriched the lives of many. Born January 27, 1957, in Sydney, he was the son of Stella (Mroz) and the late John Kantius Paruch. Raised in Whitney Pier, Dad enjoyed a wonderful childhood with his three brothers and many friends. After graduating from Sydney Academy in 1975, Dad attended St. Mary’s University and proudly graduated with a Bachelor of Commerce degree in 1978. Having a strong work ethic, Dad’s career was very important to him, and he served as Director of Finance for Sydney Steel Corporation for 25 years, followed by 10 years as Customer Service Manager for Nova Scotia Power. After deciding he wasn’t quite ready to retire, Dad accepted a year term as Customer Experience Officer with Marine Atlantic, and finally began to enjoy full retirement in 2013. Whether it was a snow blower, a leaky faucet, or a broken heart, my Dad could fix anything. A jack of all trades, and truly the master of all, my Dad was everyone’s most trusted handyman and advisor. A carpenter, electrician, plumber, mechanic, painter, financial advisor, and counsellor – Dad did it all. Eager and willing to help anyone in need, friends, family, and neighbours often called upon him to fix any problem, big or small. Dad participated in a lengthy list of volunteer activities and found great joy in helping others. A true example of the expression “work hard, play hard”, my Dad lived his life to the fullest. With a love for travel, Dad enjoyed many trips all over the world with his family and friends, and especially loved to cruise the Caribbean. Passionate about the great outdoors, Dad enjoyed numerous activities in the winter months including skiing, skating, snowshoeing, and his favourite, exploring the Cape Breton Highlands on his snowmobile. When the summer arrived, Dad enjoyed his yard work, walking with friends, sailing, swimming, and jet skiing. Dad and I spent many a glorious summer day together ‘out on the Mira’ with the Mercer family – memories we will carry in our hearts forever. Without a doubt, his greatest summer passion was fly fishing with his dear friend Jimmy on the Margaree River – his favourite place in the world. Dad also had the pleasure of fishing the Campbell River in BC with his brother Johnny – an experience he truly cherished. His greatest fishing adventure came this past July, when he embarked on his dream fishing trip to Alaska with dear friends Charles and Dave. Of course, Dad expertly tied his own flies, which proved to be very successful in catching many fish – including a recordbreaking 38 lb. sockeye salmon. Above all, Dad’s greatest passion was his family. Dad shared 38 wonderful years with the love of his life, my mom Rosanne. Their partnership was special, full, and rich. After 13 years of marriage, I came into the picture and immediately captured my father’s heart and soul. As his pride and joy, and most faithful side-kick, Dad and I were unimaginably close. His little helper, Dad let me tag along for many projects and adventures, and he always had fun activities planned for the two of us to enjoy. He tenderly guided me through the trials and tribulations of growing up, and enabled me to step confidently into the world, knowing he was right by my side with love, encouragement, advice, and a shoulder to cry on. He was my very best friend. I know he is proud of the woman I have become, and I only hope he knows how proud I am that he is my Dad. Dad warmly welcomed my husband, Andrew, into our family – the son he never had. Dad developed a deep and lasting bond with Andrew and his family, one filled with love, humour, and friendship. Dad confidently passed the torch to Andrew, knowing he will continue his work of taking care of me. Left with broken hearts, but blessed with fond memories, Dad is survived by me, Maria Young; his wife, Rosanne (Mollon), and his son-in-law, Andrew Young. Dad is also survived by his mother, Stella (Mroz) Paruch; brothers, Richard (Betty) Paruch, Alan (Erin) Paruch, and sister-in-law, Iris Paruch. Also surviving are his mother-inlaw, Mae Mollon; sister-in-law, Rose Marie (Harry) Campbell, and brothers-in-law, George (Barb) Mollon, Darrell (Lisa) Mollon and Ken Musgrave. Dad also leaves behind many loving nieces, nephews, and cousins. Besides his father, Dad is predeceased by his brother, John, in 2012, and sister, Barbara, in infancy; father-in-law, Leslie Mollon, and sisters-in-law, Blanche Musgrave, and Margie Dargel. He was also predeceased by his uncle and godfather, Edward Mroz; special neighbours, Charlie and Edna Ponee, and special friend, Nick Young. Always willing to help others, Dad generously donated his tissues as his final gift to those in need. Visitation will be held at Sydney Memorial Chapel, Tuesday, November 7, from 6-9 p.m. A celebration of Dad’s life will be held on Wednesday, November 8, at 11 a.m., at Our Lady of Fatima Parish, Sydney River. Interment to follow at Resurrection Cemetery. Donations in Dad’s honour may be made to the Patient Care Fund at the Cape Breton Cancer Centre, or to the Hospice Palliative Care Society of Cape Breton. A golden heart stopped beating, hardworking hands at rest. God broke our hearts to prove to us, he only takes the best. Tracey left us peacefully with her loving family by her side on November 1, 2017, after a courageous battle with cancer while living in Edmonton, Alberta. Tracey grew up in Sydney where she attended school from grades primary through twelve and was a passionate and devoted team member in competitive cheerleading and dance. She graduated from Riverview High School in 2002, and pursued studies at CBU and NSCC. Tracey worked at Kenny’s Pizza and the Bonnie Prince in Sydney. In 2013, Tracey met the love of her life, David Connors; she soon after moved to Edmonton to begin a life together. David’s wonderful friends welcomed Tracey to Alberta with open arms, and quickly became the warmth that made her feel at home. Tracey was a loving daughter to “the momma bear” Denise Collins Booth. There was no question, that Tracey’s love for her family and friends brought her the most joy in her life. Her love and devotion to her loved ones was boundless. When she met Dave, she not only gained a loving partner, she also gained another loving family. There was a special place in her heart for Dave’s parents, Wendell, who lovingly teased her relentlessly, and Tina, who Tracey loved dearly. She loved all the Connors family as she did her own. Tracey is survived by her partner, David Connors; mother, Denise (Ray) Collins Booth; godmother, Lynn Bond MacEachern; godfather, Mario Tarso; uncle, Bill (Nancy) Booth; aunt, Susan (Troy) Booth; uncle, Gary (Debbie) Collins; uncle, Corky (Ruthanne) Collins; uncle, Alonzo (Sandra) Collins; aunt, Cindy (Paul) Hawkins; aunt Lisa Gittens, and many cousins. Tracey will be greatly missed by Ray Rae, Amanda, Crystal, Jenna, and countless other wonderful friends. Tracey was predeceased by her father, Bobby Booth, also paternal grandparents, Bob and Barbara Booth; maternal grandparents, Albert and Alice Collins; aunt, Cathy Booth, and uncle, Roger Roper. Special thanks to Uncle Bill Booth for being Tracey’s support person and medical guide through her difficult road. Special thanks to Tracey’s dear friend, Leanne Connors, who helped so much, and was by Tracey’s side during her illness. Many thanks to the Koziel family and to all those who participated in Team Tracey. Tracey’s sparkling personality had a whimsical charisma and her fascination with Harry Potter inspired her to collect every Harry Potter book series and memorabilia. Her eyes were windows to a beautiful soul and her laughter would warm even the coldest of days. Tracy leaves us rich in memories; we are truly blessed to have had her loyalty, kindness, generosity, and witty sense of humor in our lives. Know that when the sun is setting on the Mira River, Tracey is shining her light and warming our souls – her beautiful genuine spirit will live on in our hearts forever from coast to coast. Dr. George Eden Boyd Passed on: November 3rd, 2017 It is with heartfelt sadness that we announce the peaceful passing of our beloved husband and father, Dr. George Eden Boyd on Friday, November 3, 2017. George was predeceased by his parents; two sisters, Monica, Casilda (Jack), and four brothers, Gerald, Infant Fraser, William Fraser and Blaise. He is survived by his wife, Norma; three daughters, Suzanne (Bradley), Kerry (Matthew) and Heather (Alain); a son, Gregory (Amy); seven grandchildren, Sarah, Finn, Cole, Rowan, Félix, Seamus and Rebecca; three sisters, Lucille (Edward), Peggy and Betty (Wesley); a brother, Peter; two sisters-in-law, Kaye and Deirdre, and several nieces and nephews. Very proud of his River Bourgeois heritage, George was the youngest of eleven children in a family with deep-rooted Christian values, providing him with a strong moral compass that guided him throughout his life. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated by Father Frank Abbass at St. Mary’s Parish, East Bay on Wednesday, November 8, 2017 at 2 p.m. Interment will be in the St. Mary’s Cemetery following Mass. We encourage friends and family to join us for a tea following the interment to celebrate George’s life. Friends and family are also welcome to share stories about George to enrich the legacy of his memory in the minds and hearts of his grandchildren. Please visit www.twcurry.com <http://www.twcurry.com/> to share your stories and condolences. The family truly appreciates the wonderful support from the medical care team at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital. In lieu of flowers, the family welcomes expressions of sympathy in George’s memory to New Dawn Meals on Wheels or the Palliative Care Society of Cape Breton County.

Cyril, fondly known as, ‘Lulu’, married his soul mate and the love of his life, Rebecca ‘Becky’ Wilson. Together, they confronted many trials and tribulations during their 55 years of marriage, but the depth of their love and commitment to one another remained strong. Lulu worked in the construction industry for most of his career. He was a devoted member of the Teamsters Union Local 927 and an advocate for workers’ rights and fair compensation. After retirement, Lulu could be found at Becky’s Bed & Breakfast cooking breakfast, entertaining guests with his storytelling and promoting the Island that he so loved. Lulu was a compassionate and caring individual. He is probably best known for his colourful language, blunt honesty and larger-than-life personality. Lulu was a pillar of his community, Reserve Mines. He was a member of the St. Joseph’s Men’s Club for many years. He was best known for his commitment to public safety – dedicating some 48 years of his life to the Reserve Mines Volunteer Fire Department. Lulu held various positions in the department including Lieutenant of Smoke, Lieutenant of Engine, Captain of Smoke, and Executive Member. He was Deputy Chief from 1979-1988 and 1995-2006, and became a Life Member in 2016. He was well respected throughout Cape Breton by his firefighting colleagues and he sacrificed countless hours of time with family and friends to serve his community. He was instrumental in advancing the construction of the fire hall and community centre; organizing community events; and raising funds for much needed firefighting equipment. His community service was such an inspiration to his children and grandchildren that many followed in his footsteps to dedicate their lives to community safety and the protection of Canada. He adored his children and grandchildren; instilling in them important qualities of compassion, hard work and community service. They will be forever grateful for the precious memories created during their childhoods, namely Sunday drives, family gatherings, camping trips, walks during snowstorms, and magical Christmases that he so loved. Lulu will be lovingly remembered by his wife, Rebecca; his children, Rowena (Rob), Joe (Kate), Donnie (Georgia) and Wade (Sherry); his grandchildren, Ceilidh (Rob), Andrew (Matt), Adrian, Sophia, Sam, Benjamin (Karen), Thomas (Lindsay), Sarah, Emily Meranda (Chris), Jillian and Ceara; his newborn great grandson; his sister, Sharon; his brothers, Barty (Burney), Cotter (Margie), Wayne (Ethel), Dwight (Nadine), Blaine (Flo) and Brad (Coleen); brothers-in-law, Albert (Jackie) Wilson and Sonny Anthony, and many nieces and nephews. He is predeceased by his mother, Margaret ‘Moxie’ (nee McMullin); his father, Johnny; his grandson, Adrian; his parents-in-law, Florence and Owen Wilson; his brothers-in-law, Russ Inkpen, Donald and Emerson Wilson, and his sisters-in-law, Lillian Anthony, Mary Gill and April Wilson. Special mention to his best friend of 52 years, Kevin MacPherson, for his unwavering friendship, love and caring support. To the staff of Seaview Manor, our heartfelt thanks for your patience and compassionate care given to Lulu during his stay. Many of you were not only his caregivers but he considered you as friends. Your kindness during his last hours will not be forgotten. And finally, we would be remiss in failing to recognize Becky – a devoted wife and nurturing mother – for her dedication, steadfast care and unwavering love. You were Dad’s ‘Earth Angel’ and he was blessed to have you in his life. Funeral arrangements are under the direction of V.J. McGillivray Funeral Home, 16 Reserve St., Glace Bay, where a visitation will be held on Tuesday, November 7 from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. The Funeral Mass will take place in St. Joseph’s Church, Reserve Mines on Wednesday at 11 a.m. Interment will follow in the parish cemetery. David Muise Passed in: Sydney Passed on: November 2nd, 2017 If you are reading this I guess I died. Believe me, it wasn’t my choice. Someone will fill in the date, (November 2, 2017 at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital.) I battled cancer most of my life so I assume that’s what got me. I am sorry to be leaving behind my beloved wife, Deborah George who cared for me with love and kindness and never wavered. I was truly blessed to have her in my life. She will always be My Love. I was blessed with four wonderful children, Alison (Ian) Trainor, Geoffrey (Ainsley Fraser), Cathy (Brent) Huntington, and Beth. Through good times and bad, my love for them never wavered. They gave me six grandchildren, Devon Rowe, Jonah Cameron, Hillary and Chloe Huntington, and Claire and Sarah Trainor whom I love dearly. I grew up in Ashby, the son of Nelson and Nellie Muise. I had eight brothers and sisters, Brian (Maggie), Paula (Onni), Michael (Linda), Margaret (Roger), Helen (Stephen), Robert (Susan), Joseph (Mary) and Janine, who died too young. I attended Mount Allison University and Dalhousie University Law School then set about practicing law for over 40 years. I served a term in the Nova Scotia Legislature as MLA for CB West after which I expected nothing from the Liberal Party and that’s exactly what I got. I served a tumultuous term as Mayor of CBRM, a job that gave me sleepless nights and grey hair but a lot of satisfaction as well. I trust history will treat me well. Because I was too nosy to retire, I ended up working with Sheldon Nathanson-I wish I had met him 40 years earlier. I volunteered with the Cancer Society and worked for improved services for patients. My proudest achievement was working to secure a Cancer Center for Cape Breton, never thinking I would become a patient there. I was a member of the Sydney Rotary Club and was the co-founder of the Sydney-Sunrise Club and served as District-Governor for the Maritimes in 2009-2010. I like to think that we debunked the misconception that Rotary is a bunch of rich old guys by leading the way in community service, a record for which I am truly proud. I hated dogs and bullshit and did my best to avoid both. I like to think I made more friends than enemies, laughed more than I cried, loved more that I hated, prayed more than I swore and left the wood pile a little higher. I don’t want a wake, it’s too hard on the family, but you are all invited to a party after Mass where there will be food, music and stories with a prize going to the best story about me…and it doesn’t even have to be true. Funeral mass will be celebrated Monday, November 6 at 2 p.m. at St. Marguerite Bourgeoys Church with Fr. Bill Burke officiating. In lieu of flowers, a donation to the Patient Comfort Fund at the CB Cancer Centre or to The Rotary Foundation would be appreciated or you can just perform a random act of kindness for someone less fortunate. Online condolences may be sent by visiting www.twcurry.com <http://www.twcurry.com/>. As for my life, Jimmy Buffet summed it up in, He Went To Paris: Jimmy, some of it’s magic, some of it’s tragic But I had a good life all the way.
