    1. [NS-CB] Mrs. Harry Latimer
    2. George F. Sanborn Jr.
    3. Hi Maureen, Thanks for your reply to my query. Jackie has just advised who Mrs. Latimer's parents were, and that clears up the mystery. As you suspected, Mrs. Latimer's mother was a Boutilier, as was James Bannister's mother. They were sisters, from Port Caledonia, and distant relatives of mine through their mother (Sarah MacLellan). Thanks for your help. George Sanborn

    2. George F. Sanborn Jr.
    3. Hello List, In 1945 one of my relatives, James Herbert Bannister, who lived in Donkin, died in Glace Bay. The informant for the death record was a Mrs. Harry Latimer of Edwardsville who said she was his cousin. I'm trying to figure out who she was and how she was related to James. Does anyone recognize this name? Any information will be much appreciated. I can't find anything about them on NSHVS site. Thanks, George Charlottetown

They had eleven children: 1 John,2 Mary,3 Donald,4 Joseph, 5 Teresa,6 Elizabeth, 7 Margaret 8 Hugh 9 Catherine 10 Veronica and 11 Simon. 5 Teresa c.1849 married John Morley [Fred, George], of Portage East Bay and settled in Sydney Margaret was the third child of ten children, mother's name unknown, father Aonghas (Angus) MacAskill. Angus was born in Prince Edward Island & came to Cape Breton around 1815. 2. Bill, Last year while at the Archives I wanted to get some R.C.Records but the Archives would only produce them after I showed a signed letter by the Parish Priest of the Church which I wanted to check. Not aware if the same procedure is still in effect or not. Just a bit of info prior to going to the Archives and requesting same. Don

    3. Thanks to those who replied to my question about the will of Alasdair Saor MacNeil. I guess I'll have to make another trip to the courthouse in Port Hood this summer-or the archives. While perusing to NSARM site I happened to notice that they have mictofilm of parish records - specifically those of the Catholic parish of Antigonish and all of Cape Breton. Not knowing when these records were microfilmed, I'm wondering IF there is any chance that the "missing" records from Mabou are contained therein??? -- Bill Nicholson Fraser Lake BC

    1. [NS-CB] Ottawa Bound w/ Meet & Greet - extensions to Halifax & Down North
    2. Carol MacLean
    3. March 22, 2009 Greetings folks who live in the Ottawa/Halifax/Cape Breton areas from this mailing list, I will be arriving in Ottawa on Friday, May 22, 2009 about 8 am via AirCanada from Vancovuer, BC.. and will be staying at the "Downtown Travellodge-Doral Inn". I will be attending the Induction into the Hall of Valour for my father on Saturday, May 23, 2009, being held at the Crowne Plaza Hotel. At the moment, there are 12 family members arriving for the ceremony from western Canada. For us GRAVESEEKERS: Meet & Greet. will occur @ Cora's on Alta Vista Drive in Ottawa. But if folks would like to make it a brunch....fine with me.. Time hasn't been set yet, so get your replies in with a time you'd like to meet, then we'll know what time to set....eh....and how much leg room to put around the table(s). Cora's is open 6:00 a.m. - 3:00 p.m. - Lots of parking in the mini mall *** I would like to somehow have a meet & greet over TEA, as I'm free all day Friday, May 22, 2009. The rest of my relatives won't be arriving til late Friday night from the west.... I definately don't want to sleep the day away in Ottawa, after an all-nighter on the AIRBUS from Vancouver.... Leaving Ottawa on Sunday May 24th, on a WestJet volkswagen down east...til June 8th. Extensions to Halifax & Down North: Hoping to make a Meet & Greet in Halifax, and one in Cape Breton as well. The only unsettled date is the Meet & Greet in Cape Breton, because it will be a very short stay, as I'll be traveling with my mother, who is visiting her only surviving sibling in Halifax for those two weeks. Some of you folk who grew up in the Glace Bay/New Waterford school systems, may have had a teacher by the name of Sister Wilma MacPhee, who taught school for 45 yrs. She is my aunt, and turning 92 years on June 4th, and living in Parkstone in Halifax. My mother lives in Calgary, and is in her eighties, so this will probably be their last visit together. Right now, it's to get the Ottawa Meet & Greet settled first, then I'll work on the Halifax & Cape Breton Meet & Greets... So hoping some of you respond, so some kind of arrangments can be made for all. There are of the known Ottawa folks on this list, 10 have been invited, 5 are a definate YES...& 2 possibilities... Any more gravediggers out there in the Ottawa area who love a cuppa tea. Love meeting folks from CYBERSPACE eh...... And don't forget to bring your camera's.
