Hello, Does anyone have any information on the Fleming family who resided at 108 Victoria Rd in 1911 ? Thomas Fleming was married twice. 1st wife was Mary Emma I believe, they had children, Mae, Margaret, Angeline and Phillip. The second marriage also produced children. I believe after Thomas died all the children were separated and youngest sent to an orphanage... I am hoping to track down living members of this family. As well I am looking for an obituary for Anita Dominique she was burned in a house fire and died on December 25th 1942. Any help / leads would be appreciated. Kind Regards Peggy
Hi The list was obviously quiet yesterday. Yesterday being Mother's Day, it's understandable. Than there are those of us who look for a posting regardless of what day of the year it is. Hoping someone anyone will post something to catch our interest. Also, if you posted and didn't recieve a copy of your e-mail back from the list within a reasonable length of time ....Go to the lists Archives and see if your message is there ... http://archiver.rootsweb.ancestry.com/th/index/NS-CAPE-BRETON/ .... if it isn't repost your message. As the archives is updated quite frequently, this will let you know if the list is quiet, or if you aren't receiving the messages. I would like to learn more about Red Norman MacDonald, the son of Donald Og MacDonald, both of whom came from Knockline, North Uist and settled in Catalone in about 1830. Red Norman married a daughter of my great-great-great grandfather, Big Red Neil MacVicar (Niall Ruadh Mór) and his first wife Anna(?) MacPherson. Neil was from the isle of Vallay near North Uist in the Western Hebrides and settled on Clarke's Road, Catalone in 1830. I have found references to Red Noramn in the D.S. Morrison notes and in Big Dan Ferguson's letters to Professor Donald Fergusson, both of which can be found at the Beaton Institute near Sydney. I would like to learn more about a Lauchlin Mór (or Big Lauchlin) who apparently married a daughter of my great-great-great grandfather, Big Red Neil MacVicar (Niall Ruadh Mór) and his second wife Sarah (or Marion) Nicholson. Neil was from the isle of Vallay near North Uist in the Western Hebrides and settled on Clarke's Road, Catalone in 1830. It is quite possible that Lauchlin also came from North Uist and settled in the Catalone area. I have found references to him in the D.S. Morrison notes and in Big Dan Ferguson's letters to Professor Donald Fergusson, both of which can be found at the Beaton Institute near Sydney. Allan, You should post that to the list. I think it is funny ..........don't know any of the Judique Tudors .......but you can be sure someone on the list would ask who they were! ;p) I was having fun trying to figure out what man in Cape Breton would be crazy enough to marry 8 times, maybe I should start with the Henerys! ;p) Thanks for the laugh. Juanita ----- Original Message ----- From: ALLAN J. GILLIS To: Juanita MacDonald Sent: Friday, May 08, 2009 8:34 PM Subject: Re: [NS-CB] A Worthy and Much Married Cape Breton Gentleman Hi, I think the man they are looking for is either Henry VIII Tudor (one of the Judique Tudors) or they got mixed up and it was the man who is commemorated in Lonnie Donnegan's song "I'm Henery the Eighth I Am" that is involved. Cheers, Allan
Hi I found the following article interesting. I am wondering if anyone may have heard the story before. Or knows who supposedly the worthy and much married Cape Breton gentleman was. I am curious which came first: if he ran out of rooms or ran out of wives. ;p) The following article appeared in the Portsmouth, Herald, under the title 'Habits of Some Rich Persons' Portsmouth Herald, (Portsmouth, New Hampshire, April 18th, 1906 "There is in Cape Breton a worthy and much married gentleman who has just taken his eighth wife to his heart and home. And a grewsome home it must be to greet a homecoming wife, for seven of his rooms, each painted in black and white, and literally garnished with skulls and crossbones, are dedicated to wives Nos. 1 to 7 As the birthday of each of these departed spouses comes around the by no means desconsolate husband entertains his friends at dinner in the room specially devoted to her memory and improves the occasion by telling anecdotes to illustrate her many virtues."
