I would like to learn more about my gr gr gr grandparents, Allan MacDonald and his wife Sarah MacPhail, who lived on either Croft No. 3 or Croft No. 13 in Solas, North Uist in the 1820s. They probably emigrated before 1830 and eventually settled in Hillside on the Mira River, where they had a farm. They were both born about 1800 (their eldest child, Margaret, was born in 1822 and married Donald MacVicar) and Allan died about 1875 and Sarah before 1871. Sarah's family may have settled in River Dennis. They are not to be confused with the Allan MacDonald and Sarah MacPhail who are buried in Black Brook Cemetery, who appear to be 10 to 20 years younger. Other children were: Anne (b. c1824), who married Angus Campbell; John; Allan (d. young); Mary (b. c1835), who married Allan Frost; Christy (b. c1836), who married Neil Nicholson; Elizabeth (b. c1837), who married John Matheson. Bob McVicar Prescott, Ontario

Can anyone help with this family please: Neil Kenneth McLENNAN b. about 1851 Nova Scotia, mrd Euphemia McLEAN, b. 1864, Nova Scotia. They were married on 9 Oct 1890 in Boston, USA. The only child I can find is Charles Roderick McLENNAN b. 4 Mar 1892, Waipu. Does anyone know what happened to this family; I cannot find their departure from, or deaths, in New Zealand. I would also like to know who the parents of Neil Kenneth and Euphemia were. They could well have been connected to other McLENNANs who settled in Waipu with the Rev Norman McLEOD. Thanks for any help. Anne -- Anne PICKETTS Waipu, NZ NZSG #5331; KFHS #6151 Also at: <anne@waipumuseum.com>
Thank you all for the wonderful comments. I'm glad you like the format. Thanks, Maureena
I don't know where my first post went??? I'll try again today to acknowledge the great work of Maureena with regard to the new format for the Cape Breton Obits. ! Thank you Maureena for your work and all the effort involved. A job well done! I really like the new format! It is much easier to navigate. Much appreciated! Barb Fredericton, NB
Just wanted to say how much I am pleased with the new data-based website for Cape Breton obits. I find it quicker and easier to navigate than the older version. .Good job Maureen. Thanks for all you do .Jackie
Just wanted to say how happy I am with the new data-based website for Cape Breton obits. I find it quicker and easier to navigate than the older version. I am hoping that the current missing years will be able to be added to the site as well. It would be nice to have everything in the same spot. Good job Maurenna. Alex Gillis
Alex and others of interest, They are all in one spot, in the archives of this mailing list. That is, any of the Cape Breton Post deaths that were posted to this mailing list. But the first five years or so, are not in this archives, because we hadn't started posting them yet. At the time, a person could look up in the archives of the CBPost and find the paper according to date. When that archives ceased, was about the time Maureen McNeil and my self started posting the obits to this mailing list. It was a bit sketchy in the beginning, but as of August 2004, I got fully into the game, and have posted the obits ever since. In a year or so, CBGHA gained a subscription, and have made the obits ever since as a courtesy. The missing years will be on dvd, and will be sold via the CBGHA, with all proceeds to remain within the Association. But if you require a look-up, by all means contact me..... I submitted ten years of the Cape Breton Deaths (Post) to CBGHA to be made into a dvd, that will include the index of surnames of those obits from the CBPost. These ten years, are since the Cape Breton Post went online, Oct 13, 1998 to the end of Dec 31, 2008. In ten years, the next collection will be made into a dvd as well. I perfered the older format by Ann Capstick, as I searched via year, and not the surname. The missing years will not be added to the original Roots Cape Breton site that Maurenna has taken over, although I'm glad someone has taken an interest to continue it. The original Roots Cape Breton Obituaries by Ann Capstick can still be found in it's original format if you are a member of CBGHA (Cape Breton Genealogial Historical Association). As soon as the dvd is ready, an announcement will be made, along with the cost & s/h fees. As far as I know, it will be in HTML format.. Hi everyone Sorry about the confusion about the obituaries, but I had to simplify them. I couldn't edit or add notes to any of them in the old format without wanting to pull my hair out. For the time being, I would like to keep my hair and my sanity, so I have stuffed everything into a database and my output will be tables in html. I have also added the obits to the end of June for 2009. Carol, do you have any issues with my adding the obits from this list onto the genweb page? I would like to add the missing years from the posts if you don't mind. Thanks, Maureena
I sent this obit out last Saturday, I didn't get a copy from the list and neither did a few others but it made it into the List Archives somehow!? So lets try this again....
