    1. [NS-CB] McMillan
    2. Michie Family (Christopher, Lindsay and Ian)
    3. Is there anyone who knows anything about these McMillans? On the 1838 - 41 Cape Breton Census - Middle River there are two McMillans. One is Norman, my gggrandfather. There is also a John McMillan. Does anyone know anything about John? Could he be a brother? On the censuses for Victoria Country for 1861, I can find Norman but no John. Also there is a record of a marriage between Kenneth McMillan aged 30 of Buchanans Mountain and born Buchanans Mountain and Margaret Hunter of Hunters Mountain in 1883. Kenneth was the son of William and Ann - or so it says on the record. My Norman McMillan lived at Buchanans Mountain. Was this a relative? Could William McMillan be the son of John? By 1883 Norman's son had inherited and sold the farm and gone to Manitoba, so Kenneth would not have been staying with him. I can't find any record of this William McMillan, father of Kenneth. Norman had sons Donald, William, John, Malcolm and Norman - but these are common names. In 1871 It looks as though Kenneth age 18 was with Anne McIver age 43 in Middle River Census District C1. In 1880 Kenneth appears to be in Nevada USA with a Ferguson from Quebec. Could have been a boarder. He then appears to have come back to CB and married the girl next door. Any clues would be appreciated. Lindsay (McMillan) Michie

    1. [NS-CB] Question, re Jack Fraser (Fibble Boo), North Sydney
    2. B.A.Campbell
    3. One of the photos in my extended (MacNeil) family's collection has now been identified as someone other than the person it was thought to be. The Nelson Rice Photo Collection at the Beaton Institute includes the photo in question, I was advised by Anne M. MacNeil, Archival Researcher that the person is identified on the back of the photo as Jack Fraser (Fibble Boo). He was likely a resident of North Sydney c1948 (date photos taken). Out of curiosity, I wonder if any member of this list would know anything about this Jack Fraser, or is perhaps researching this particular Fraser family. I have no idea as to why the photo was among others in the MacNeil family photos. Please reply to the List. Thank you. Bernardine

    1. [NS-CB] Volunteer Transcribers needed
    2. Ron Zinck
    3. Hi Folks: I have a large number of paper copies in my basement approximately 3 -5 linear feet and several gigs on storage devices. This includes BMD, In Memoriams and a few anniversary and features. I am sure other list members have similar large collections. I am willing to scan and share my collection if there are enough volunteers to transcribe and distribute the copies to the various lists in NS. Also if there are enough volunteers others may be willing to scan and share their collections. The other possible project could be the indexing of the names captured on these copies to add to the existing resources such as NSVHS. This could be similar to Bob. H's cemetery index for example. This does not have to be large time commitment if enough people volunteer because I can only scan and distribute a limited number items per week. Please respond off the lists. Ron
