Edith Cavell Campbell Born In: Buffalo Born: April 27th, 1923 Passed in: Sydney Passed on: January 2nd, 2015 It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our mother, Edith Cavelle Campbell on Jan. 2, 2015, at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital surrounded by her family. Born in Buffalo, NY on April 27, 1923, she was a daughter of the late Herbert and Elizabeth (Nelson) Webb of Sydney. Edith’s entrance into the world wasn’t easy as her mother went into labour while visiting relatives in the U.S. Premature and placed in an incubator, she was a very sick baby but she made it through. Luck continued to follow Edith; while visiting relatives in Scotland, she almost drowned by the seaside but was saved by a relative. In 1939 she was on one of the last ships to leave England as war was declared; she recalled having to keep the curtains drawn in the cabins, nor was anyone allowed to smoke on deck. Mom worked at Moraff’s Yarns & Crafts in Whitney Pier, trained to be a hairdresser, and wanted to train to be a nurse, but as they say “life happens” so she married and started a family. Mom was a beautiful, smart, caring and compassionate woman who put the needs of her family above her own and no truer friend you could have. She was a great cook and baker, loved to read and knit, and always loved her mystery shows. Edith is survived by daughters, Elizabeth Gerrard, Lr Sackville; Beverly (Gerald) Smith, Kitchener; Vera MacDonald, Sydney; Lindell (Peter) Kennedy, Elmsdale; sons, John (Debra), Kitchener; Herb, Halifax; Daren (Patricia), Sydney; brothers-in-law, John, Archie (Patricia) Campbell, Dutch Brook. Besides her parents, she was predeceased by her husband Charles, son Charles in infancy, brother Dave Webb, sister Vera Iesnor. A thank you goes to Patricia Poirier, mom’s longtime companion and caregiver who helped mom through her many health issues these recent years and kept Mom looking fantastic. Thank you to the caring staff of 3A and the Palliative care unit of the Cape Breton Regional Hospital. As per Edith’s request, cremation has taken place. There will be no visitation. A family memorial service may be help at a later date. In Edith’s memory, donations may be made to the Palliative Care Unit of the Cape Breton Regional Hospital or the charity of your choosing. Crossing The Bar Sunset and evening star, And one clear call for me! And may there be no moaning of the bar, When I put out to sea, But such a tide as moving seems asleep, Too full for sound and foam, When that which drew from out the boundless deep Turns again home. Twilight and evening bell, And after that the dark! And may there be no sadness of farewell, When I embark; For tho’ from out our bourne of Time and Place The flood may bear me far, I hope to see my Pilot face to face When I have crost the bar. -Alfred Lord Tennyson Ruth MacLean It is with broken hearts that we, the family, announce the passing of our loving wife, mother, grandmother, sister and friend, Ruth (Edmunds ) MacLean, age 68, on Sunday, Dec. 28, 2014, at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, Sydney. In 1947 Ann moved to Montreal, Quebec where she took a job with Prudential Assurance Co. and had many good times with all her girlfriends from Nova Scotia. In the early 1950s in Montreal she met a special man on a streetcar. His name was William A. (Bill) Genereux, who became the love of her life. They were married over 50 years until Bill's passing. The family immigrated to Detroit, Michigan in the mid twenties. It was in Detroit that Jo met her forever love, Robert Naggar. The two eloped to Austin, Texas and were married just before Robert left to serve our country during WWII <http://www.legacy.com/memorial-sites/ww2/?personid=173520219&affiliateID=1473> and Jo returned to Detroit. After the War ended Robert and Josephine were reunited. Soon they began their travels, visiting 42 states while Robert worked for Burroughs, finally settling in Anaheim. In 1963 they adopted Denise. A few years later the family moved to Switzerland where they would live in a little town at the foot of Mt. Pilatus where Robert worked as a computer design engineer assisting Hughes Aircraft with satellites. When it came time to return to the US, the family returned to Anaheim, however Robert was diagnosed with Cancer and passed a few years later. A heartbroken Josephine moved she and Denise to Westlake Village and the two continued to live in the Conejo and Simi Valleys for over 40 years. Jo became active in the Westlake Woman's Club during the early 70's and upon moving to Newbury Park in 1976 became a daily volunteer at Mary Health of the Sick Convalescent Hospital where she enjoyed doing crafts with "the ladies" and inviting them to her home for home cooked feasts during the holidays year after year. Jo also shared her talents with Bullocks Dept. Store in The Oaks Mall, where she worked for many years, especially loving the Christmas rush. She enjoyed cooking, baking and doing crafts immensely. Her holiday dessert tables were unmatched. When her grandchildren arrived, one after the other, she cared for them daily and nurtured them in every way. They each had her heart and made her life fulfilled. She loved to share stories of her life and experiences with family and friends and her door was always open. She enjoyed all the old movies (and no modern era movies) and watched Miracle on 34th Street every year and every time it was on. Our hearts are heavy, but we know Grandma is spending Christmas with Jesus and her forever love, Robert, this year. A Rosary Service will be held at the Reardon Family Mortuary, Sycamore Street, Simi Valley, California at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday, December 18, 2014. A Funeral Mass will be held at St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church, Simi Valley, at 1 p.m. Friday, December 19, 2014. submitted by [email protected] <mailto:[email protected]>
