Robie was born in Inverness, May 17,1919 , the daughter of Doctor Charles and his wife, Diana (Roberts) MacMillan. After the early death of her father, the family helped their mother operate the Seaview Inn, which welcomed many illustrious guests during the height of the coal-mining era in Inverness. She attended local schools and graduated from the Halifax Infirmary School of Nursing in 1946, proudly leading the Province of Nova Scotia in obtaining her Registered Nurse designation. While at the Infirmary she nursed on the Merchant Marine Ward, caring for the injured who served on the North Atlantic during the Second World War. During the War she presented Princess Juliana, Crown Princess of the Nethlerlands, with a bouquet of flowers on her visit to the City of Halifax, in 1940. In 1946 s! he married Douglas Cameron, a veteran of World War II, who left us all much too early at age 49. Mom was then left to raise their 9 children, and she did so with extraordinary grace and pride. Mom was a gifted and compassionate nurse and mentor, who decried the lack of uniforms and nurses' caps, which she always believed were the proud badges of her profession. She held a strong work ethic, which she instilled in her family by her example of strength and dignity. She was a strong and inspiring mother, full of creativity and activity? whether quilting, painting, gardening, baking or cooking; she loved berry picking on Cape Mabou, tucking away with a crossword puzzle and swimming at Inverness Beach. She did it all! She was generous in sharing her many talents with others and encouraging others to nurture their own gifts. Mom believed in learning about one's world, being active in one's community and, above all else, family. There was no greater joy for Mom than a family gathering ? bustling with all ages and all interests. She would simply sit back and beam! Her family of children were her joy and legacy. She welcomed everyone as her own as the family grew over the years. She had a strong profound faith and worked joyously for her Church. She was very proud to be honoured by St. Matthew's United Church when named a Lifetime Elder. Besides, her parents and husband, she was predeceased by sisters, Jean, Vivian, Mae and Chrissie, and brother, Edward. She is survived by children, Douglas (Betty Anne), Inverness; Margaret (Bruce Berger), Fort Erie, Ontario; Bob (Linda), Strathlorne; Eleanor (Alex) Ryan, Inverness; Christina (the late Rev. Glenn) MacDonald, Pictou; Fred (Louise Egan) Strathlorne and Port Hawkesbury; Charlie (Elaine), Whiteside, Maurice (Marion), Halifax, and Caroline (Norman Burton), at home. She will be fondly remembered by her 16 beloved grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren, alo! ng with many other children throughout Canada who knew her as "Grammie Robie". Her love was generous and boundless; her strength and wisdom, an example and gift to all. She will live forever in our hearts and minds . . . she will be with us always. The family wishes to express deepest thanks to Dr. Bernie MacLean, and more recently Dr. Susie Egar, for their deeply compassionate attention to Mom's medical needs, along with the various medical clinics which monitored Mom's health and well-being. Their health care allowed Mom to enjoy a long and rewarding life. Visitation will be held in Inverness Funeral home on Saturday, March 7 from 7-9 p.m. and Sunday from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Funeral Service will be held on Monday March 9 at 3 p.m. in St. Matthew's United Church, Inverness with Pastor Maggie Plant celebrating. Burial in St. John's United Church Cemetery, Strathlorne at a later date. Donations in Mom's memory may be made to the Inverness Hospital Charitable Foundation or St Ma! tthew's United Church, Inverness. Online condolences may Emily Willena Fahey Born In: New Victoria Passed in: Glace Bay Passed on: March 4th, 2015 "Mothers and their children are in a category all their own. There?s no bond so strong in the entire world. No love so instantaneous and forgiving.? ?Gail Tsukiyama Emily Willena Fahey: Lady of strong faith, Wife, Mother, Grandmother, Great-grandmother, Godmother, Aunt, Sister and Dear Friend. As her children, we are broken hearted to announce the passing of our beautiful Mother, Emily, following a graceful and courageous battle with cancer during which she never complained or questioned why. She peacefully passed away, with her loving family by her side, March 4, 2015 at the Glace Bay Hospital. Ma was supported by her family and friends during the battle as she supported them throughout their lives. She demonstrated tremendous strength and unwavering hope throughout her illness. Born in New Victoria, in 1937, she was the daughter of the late Thomas and Catherine 'Cassie' (Turnbull) Tighe, New Waterford Lake. Ma was married to the late James Fahey, Reserve Mines. She was a member of St. Joseph's parish, also in Reserve Mines, where she was well known and had so many friends. As a young lady Ma worked at the IGA in Sydney before moving to Boston with friends to become a nanny while doing some fashion modelling. Quite an adventure for a young lady from New Victoria. A Christmas trip home to N.S. that winter changed Ma's life forever when she started dating the very handsome, James Fahey. With some gentle persuasion from James, Ma stayed home in N.S. and married him shortly after. Da adored her, and at the time of his passing in 2002, Ma and Da were married 40 years, during which time they raised their seven children together, surrounded by love and faith. Raising their family in a small company home was no small feat. We fondly remember falling asleep to Ma's beautiful singing. Although her children went off on their many adventures Ma was usually instrumental behind the scenes making things happen to support their dreams. Emily was a wonderful mother, a strong, independent lady who was fiercely devoted to her family. Ma never forgot a birthday, anniversary or graduation; she was very proud of her family?s accomplishments, and was known to brag about them a time or two. Ma was a kind and generous person and rarely did anyone leave her home without a trip to the "gift room" and a few bags in hand. She was famous for her cooking and baking especially her homemade bread which she made daily to complete her homemade meals. Friendly battles for the last loaf of bread were common. There was rarely a day when Ma didn't make a large family meal or a few meal options to ensure everybody's appetite was satisfied. Chocolate cake with boiled icing was a Sunday tradition in our home. Children growing up on Reserve Rows and Centre Street remember fondly Ma's nightly homemade chips served in lard boxes as their evening snack. Throughout the years Ma "adopted" many children who spent days, weeks and months in our home. Ma lit up any room she entered. As her children grew she loved spending time with her friends, playing bingo, shopping, and enjoying a meal. Ma was a very lucky bingo player and if she did not win you could be sure she waited for one number many times. Her friends were a very important part of her life. She loved music and dancing, and was known for being one of the last to leave a party. Country music was her favourite and she also enjoyed Daniel O'Donnell's music. Ma loved beautiful clothing especially those pieces adorned with some bling. She always looked beautiful for every occasion. Ma worked in correspondence for the Costal Courier for several years while remaining committed to being a dedicated homemaker. Ma had a sharp wit an exceptional sense of humour and could always be depended on to share a story and keep everyone laughing. Ma would joke and have a great joke for everyone who knew her. They always got a laugh. When things were at their toughest, Ma was at her best! This was epitomized during the last six months of life when she continued to give. When things were tough Ma found strength, when things were sad Ma helped us smile, when things were difficult she gave us courage, hope and laughter. One of Ma's greatest virtues was the love she gave her family. One of her greatest joys were the many family get-togethers throughout the years. Ma was very proud of the home she built for her family. Survived by and left to mourn this devastating loss are her seven children, Fonce (Wanda), Glace Bay, Cathy (Tim), Bedford, James (Robin), Boston, Emily (Glenn), Truro, Michelle (Mike), Dartmouth, Charlie (Patricia), Lake Echo, Kevin (Tammy), Sackville: 12 grandchildren, Montina, Jamie, Sarah, Thomas, Alyssa, Taylor, James Liam, Benjamin, Thomas, Kassidy, Brandon, Katherine and great-grandson, Benjamin. Emily will also be sadly missed by sisters, Annie and Bunny; brother, Wallace; very special friend, Dianne, and special family, Nan and Arnold Murphy; several nieces, nephews and friends. ?Ma's loving family will truly miss their Mum.? Besides her parents, Ma was also predeceased by her loving husband, James, sister, Romona, brothers, Joseph, Dempsey, Jackie, Myles and Clarence Tighe. Visitation for Ma will be held Sunday, March 8, 2015, from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. in V.J McGillivray Funeral Home, 16 Reserve St., Glace Bay. The funeral mass, officiated by Fr. Daniel Boudreau will be celebrated 11 a.m., Monday, March 9, 2015, in St. Joseph?s Church, Reserve Mines. Immediately following the funeral mass, everyone is invited to join the family at a reception in the church hall. Interment will be at a later date in St. Joseph?s Cemetery. Family flowers only. Memorial donations made in Ma?s memory may be made to a charity of one's choice. We would like to take this opportunity to thank the entire staff from the 3rd floor of the Glace Bay Hospital and Dr. O'Brien, for their care and compassion and for becoming part of our extended family over the past several months. “Ma's loving family will truly miss their Mum.” Besides her parents, Ma was also predeceased by her loving husband, James, sister, Romona, brothers, Joseph, Dempsey, Jackie, Myles and Clarence Tighe. Visitation for Ma will be held Sunday, March 8, 2015, from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. in V.J McGillivray Funeral Home, 16 Reserve St., Glace Bay. The funeral mass, officiated by Fr. 3. Cape Breton Deaths courtesy of CAPE BRETON GENEALOGY & HISTORICAL ASSOCIATION VISIT OUR WEBSITE - <http://www.cbgen.org/ <http://www.cbgen.org/>>www.cbgen.org <http://www.cbgen.org/> NEW MEMBERS WELCOME Published in The Chronicle Herald, Saturday, March 7, 2015 Roberta Borden Cameron, May 17, 1919 - March 5, 2015 It is with deepest sadness that her family announces the death of our beloved mother, Roberta Borden (MacMillan) Cameron which occurred on March 5th, 2015, at home at the great age of 95. In 1946 she married Douglas Cameron, a veteran of World War II, who left us all much too early at age 49. She was a strong and inspiring mother, full of creativity and activity– whether quilting, painting, gardening, baking or cooking; she loved berry picking on Cape Mabou, tucking away with a crossword puzzle and swimming at Inverness Beach. She did it all! She was generous in sharing her many talents with others and encouraging others to nurture their own gifts. Mom believed in learning about one's world, being active in one's community and, above all else, family. There was no greater joy for Mom than a family gathering – bustling with all ages and all interests. She will be fondly remembered by her 16 beloved grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren, along with many other children throughout Canada who knew her as "Grammie Robie". Donations in Mom's memory may be made to the Inverness Hospital Charitable Foundation or St Matthew's United Church, Inverness. Katherine, our Mom, “Nana” and Aunt Cal to many, passed away at Victoria Haven, Glace Bay, where she had resided since November. Born in Sydney, June 5, 1913, she was the daughter of Alva and Ethel (Harris) Richardson, and was the last surviving member of her immediate family. Mom was a nurturer, patient and kind to all, devoted to her family. To know her was to love her. Even though Lewy Body Dementia robbed her of so much the past three years, there were still many days filled with love and laughter that will remain with us forever. Katherine is survived by daughters, Sandra (Frank) Dunn, Sydney and Jane (Dean) Murray, Owen Sound, Ont.; sons, David (Isabelle), Stellarton and John (Carol), Caledon, Ont. Mourning the loss of their Nana are George (Sue), Carolyn, Mary, Terry, Renee (Pascal), Monique (Rob), Rhonda, Debbie (Barry), Ian and Shawn and great-grandchildren, Laurie, Shauntelle, Danielle, Gabrielle, Jacob, Jane, Matthew, Taylor, Natalie, Leanne, Kimberley, Magen. Also survived by many nieces and nephews, especially Elva's daughter, Delores Zwicker, Bridgetown, N.S. Mom was predeceased by our Dad, George in 1990; brothers, Sid, Charles and Harris and sisters, Elva Keizer and Rita Ludgate. There were so many people who helped Mom and the family over the course of the past three years. Longtime physician and friend, Dr. Paul Murphy (Murph, as Mom called him), the Red Cross, the caring friends from VON and City Homemakers Service who loved Mom so much and, most recently, the devoted, compassionate staff at Victoria Haven. We thank you so much for enabling us to have her home for so long and loving her when the time came for her to move. The family extends a heartfelt thanks to Helen Carroll Donnelly who was there for her adopted “Nana” every step of the way. The love they shared was a joy to see, and her unflagging devotion lightened Mom’s days. As per Mom’s wishes there will be no services. The family will host a memorial day to celebrate Mom’s life at a later date. Cremation has taken place under the care of Sydney Memorial Chapel. For Katherine “Cal” Henderson There’s a song you have sung your life through, Though strife was no stranger to you, I’ll hear it ‘till my dying day, The love song you left us to play. It’s all about patience and giving, And life that was made for the living. A shoulder to cry on, a friend to rely on, A spirit that won’t pass away. Sing your song to the angels, Let them hear it as you pass their way. The love in your heart lives forever, It’s in all that you touched every day. The temple that holds you grows wearier dear, Blue eyes dim, ears straining to hear. Thoughts flee like dry leaves and go where they please, Timeless days with no shortage of tears. It’s all about family and friendships You’ve held close over 100 years. A treasure on earth that started at birth, And will end with no worries or fears. 3. thanks Angie, Dana & Colin, I have the info already for Henry’s wife, Hannah, including the same info for her brother. I did an online search for that paper & date… Found a one liner if you want to call it that. There were other folk and stories but a one liner for Henry. He is my 4th great grandfather’s son.. He was one of three brothers who lived to be adults, marry and have children. There were also two daughters that lived to be adults, one marrying and having children. I did have access to GenealogyBank.com <http://genealogybank.com/>, but was never able to find anything then. I was just going over some info, and thought I’d give this paper a try again, hoping someone would maybe able to find something I couldn’t. Thanks again….. She was predeceased by sisters, Lena, Mary and Dilly, as well as brothers, Angus, Everill, Sharkie, Layton, Kenny and Walter. Although she travelled all across the country with her husband and children, her heart never strayed far from her true home. She was a wonderful mother, nana, and aunt to all that entered her life, sharing her amazing sense of humour, passion for music and incredible home style cooking with everyone she loved. Different people will remember her for different reasons; her work with the Lion’s Club, her voracious reading, or her never-ending string of crossword puzzles, to name a few. That being said, the sight of her twinkling blue eyes and the sound of her wonderful laugh touched us deeply and will be remembered by all. A special thank you goes to the Doctors and Nurses of Roseway Hospital as well as the Yarmouth ICU Unit. They worked tirelessly and endlessly to make Mom’s final days as comfortable as possible. Their compassion eased both their pain and ours, something we will never forget. As was her wish, cremation has taken place under the direction of H.M. 1. [NS-CB] Missing Children
    2. Margaret via
    3. Hello List, The RCMP had a project called “Mission Hope” several years ago. The project had a list of missing children from the early 1900’s. Just wondering if anyone was able to get a copy of that list. Does anyone know where I might obtain a copy of the list? With thanks, Margaret
