Oct 27, 1951 Halifax Chronicle Herald: GREENWOOD, Oct. 26 - Dr. James Henry Bishop Macintosh passed away suddenly at his home, 51 Boswell Avenue, Toronto, Ontario. Dr. Macintosh, a native of Cape Breton, practiced dentistry in Sydney for 25 years and in Wolfville, from 1934 until 1945. Upon retiring in 1945 he resided in Wolfville until 1947, thence to Toronto where he made his home until the time of his death. A Mason and a charter member of the Wolfville Rotary Club, Dr. Macintosh was active in the affairs of the latter organization until his retirement in 1945. Surviving are his widow, the former Ida Isobel Morrison a native of Sydney, two daughters, Esther of Toronto and Frances of Elmira, Ontario; and one son, George, Dental Officer at RCAF Station Greenwood. Cape Breton Deaths July Tuesday Carlyle Allan John Denny 19, Eskasoni - It is with broken hearts and great sadness that we, the family announce the death of a wonderful, loving son, uncle, brother and great friend who passed away suddenly Saturday, July 12, 2008. Born in Baddeck, he was the son of Mona Bernard and the late Ira John Denny. Carl was a very loving, friendly, easy-going guy who loved spending time with his family. He loved being outdoors playing amongst his nieces and nephews who love him and will miss him dearly. He especially loved his only godchild, Chasity Jade. Carlyle is survived by his loving mother, Mona (Alonzo); one brother, Jordan; four sisters, Jillian (John), Tyra, Renee and Cassidy. Born in Glace Bay, he was the son of Theresa (nee Cook) Jessome and the late Frederick Wilson (Freddy) Jessome. Raymond had an active childhood in Glace Bay and played on many sports teams; his favourites being baseball and hockey. He was a member of St. John the Baptist Parish and a student at St. Michael High. He moved to Ontario in the late 1970s but never forgot his roots. Raymond's laid back approach to life was a tribute to his Cape Breton culture. He often talked about moving home when he retired. Raymond was employed with Ampere Metal where he was known as one of the best line operator platers in the business. He lived a happy, active life with baseball, swimming, biking and bowling as his pastimes. He also enjoyed a good party. Raymond was an incredibly accepting person who was a friend to all and a true friend to many. Raymond was predeceased by his father, Freddy in 1977 as well as paternal grandparents, Wilson and Lila Jessome, maternal grandparents, Bill and Mary Cook, and aunts and uncles. He is survived by his mother, Theresa Jessome; his brother, Leo Jessome, sister-in-law, Sylvia 'Sis', all of Glace Bay; his 'bro' John Walker (Chrissy), Brampton, Ont.; niece, Trish O'Brien (George), Sackville, N.S.; nephews, Dan Jessome (Joan Marie), Irma, Alta. and Leo Jessome (fiancée Pam Geddes), Enfield, N.S.; greatnieces, Faith and Alyssa; greatnephews, Tyler, Christopher and Jordan; as well as aunts, uncles and cousins from Nova Scotia, Newfoundland and Ontario. Elizabeth was born in North Sydney on May 24, 1941, the youngest daughter of Frederick and Caroline (Plank) Clark. Elizabeth worked as a teller at the Royal Bank in North Sydney, prior to becoming a stay-at-home mom. She volunteered at the Northside Christian Academy for many years. She was member of the Northside Baptist Church, Halfway Road, in Sydney Mines. She is survived by her husband, Alfred Crowe; her two sons, Murray (Rebecca) and Barry (Linda); eight grandchildren, Amber, Brendon, Emily, Tyler, Breanne, Cody, Carla and Brookelyn; her sister, Margaret (Earl) Marple, North Sydney; and a brother, Vince (Ruth) Clark, Ottawa; as well as nieces and nephews. Frost passed away on July 12, 2008, in Meaford, Ont. Husband of Sue Nash and father of Jesse and Marilyn; stepfather of Leone and Cindy; grandfather of Victoria. He leaves many nieces and nephews in Nova Scotia as well as Ontario. Roy was predeceased by his parents, Cecilia Johnson and Arthur Frost as well as his siblings, Dixie, Alma and Fabian. Survived by his brothers, Art and Charlie, both of Ontario. As a young man, Roy received many awards for his baseball skills. He was born in Glace Bay, moved to Reserve Mines in 1940 where he attended St. Joseph School. He left for Toronto where he joined Dixie, Art and Charlie who were established in that province. Cape Breton Post July 13, 2008 Monday Family Reunion A Long Time In The Making BY LAURA JEAN GRAN CAPE BRETON POST GLEN TOSH - Descendants of a family torn apart almost a century ago were reunited on the weekend in Cape Breton. Judy Ross, of Glen Tosh in Victoria County, and Pete Stowe, of Banbury, England, had each been conducting searches for family for years when they finally made contact earlier this year. "My grandmother and three of her siblings came over here from England in 1910," said Ross, explaining they were among the thousands of children, now known as British home children, sent from England to Canada between 1869 and the mid- 1900s. At the time, those four siblings left behind three brothers in England, who were allowed to stay with their mother, a widow, who was having great difficulty providing for her family. Stowe's grandfather was among the three brothers who stayed in England. In the years that followed their separation, the seven siblings and their families were able to maintain some contact but all ties were eventually lost around 1942. That is until now. Intrigued by stories their parents had told them about their family history, Ross and Stowe had begun searching for clues to their roots several years ago, when, after hours and hours of online searching, Stowe stumbled upon an archived obituary for Ross's mother that had been published in the Cape Breton Post. He sent letters to the family members in Canada noted in the obituary and upon seeing a letter her brother had received from Stowe, Ross immediately e-mailed him this past February. They've been in contact ever since and Stowe, along with his daughter Rachel, mother, June, and sister Jo Hopkins, decided to make a trip to Cape Breton to meet his long-lost family members. Ross said it's an overwhelming feeling to re-establish contact with her family and roots in England. She said it's neat to think of four of her family members travelling to Canada, almost a century after four young children - her grandmother and three siblings - made the trip. "It's 98 years later and four people came over," she said. The Stowe family are equally thrilled to see the reunion become a reality. "It just makes the world seem a smaller place," described Pete, who noted he had travelled to Toronto before and in flying over Nova Scotia had wondered where his family might be. "Now to actually meet them is brilliant." He passed away July 10, 2008, at the age of 97. Ted was born Nov. 4, 1910, in St. Anthony, N.L. to the late Charles and Patience (Brown) Noseworthy. In June 1935, he was united in marriage to Clara May Annesty, who passed away in 1973. They had two children, Ralph and Clifford. Ted later married Margaret (Andrews) Noseworthy who survives him. He is also mourned by his sister, Dora MacDonald, and his sister-in-law, Chris Noseworthy, and several grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews, and friends. Ted worked in he Sydney Steel Plant's nail mill for over 40 years. He was a very active member of the United Protestant Church and IOOF (the Independent Order of Odd Fellows) and well known for having painted his home in Howie Center Cape Breton tartan. Raised on Scatarie Island until 1945, he then moved to Main-a-Dieu, where he was a fisherman until his retirement. Clem loved to dance and attended the seniors dances. In his younger years he enjoyed playing lob ball in his NHL golden sneakers. Clem is survived by his sister, Jane Harris; sister-in-law, Theresa Spencer, both of Main-a-Dieu; as well as numerous nieces and nephews and extended family who lovingly referred to him as 'Uncle Clem'. She will be deeply missed by her husband, Michael Curran; her four and a half year old son, Ryan, and her two stepchildren, Colleen and Sean. Her Mom and Dad and her three sisters are also profoundly saddened by her passing. Born and raised in Sydney, N.S., she was the oldest daughter of Harvey and Clare (Gillis) MacEachern. She attended St. Joseph's School and graduated from Sydney Academy in 1981. She attended Carleton University upon receiving the President's Scholarship Award and graduated with her bachelor of arts degree. After completing a bachelor of education degree at Queen's University, Kingston, Ont., Margaret Jean taught in the Ontario school system for 15 years. In her last few years in Ontario, Margaret Jean served as a school administrator in several schools in the Toronto Catholic School Board. Margaret Jean was always very active in her community serving on church boards and school co-op programs for her son, Ryan. Margaret Jean is survived by a large and loving family of Gillises, MacEacherns and Currans. She will always be remembered by her three sisters, Dr. Shauna (Larry Babineau), Ottawa, Elizabeth RN (Neil Ferguson), Halifax and Lora LLB (Chris Daly), Halifax. Margaret Jean loved her nephews and nieces including Maria and Nolan Babineau, Jonathan and Hillary Ferguson as well as Alexandra and twins, Dan and Bridget Daly. Bill spent many years away in Winnipeg working and raising his children, but his heart was always in Red Islands. When retirement time came he and Lorna moved back to make a home on their hill overlooking the Bras d'Or Lakes. A son of Alexander Stephen 'Alex S' and Sarah Emily 'Sadie' (MacInnis) MacKenzie, he is survived by his wife, Lorna (Emery); sons, Boyd (Jo-Anne), David (Cindy); and daughter Beth-Ann (Rob) McFaddin; the mother of his sons, Alice (Campbell); and grandchildren, Tyler, Sara, Kyle, Ashton and Kiana, all of Winnipeg. He was predeceased by brothers Peter, Lawrence, Leonard and Philip, and sister Marguerite. He will be mourned by his brothers, Stephen (Annabelle) and George; sisters, Marie Morrison, Sister Ann (CSM), Doris Brown, Frances (Byron Howat); sister-in-law, Catherine (Lawrence); as well as many nieces and nephews who loved him dearly.
