Hello List.... Is anybody researching Roper families? I have Irene Smith, daughter of Wilson Smith and Mary MacGregor (d/o Gregor MacGregor and Mary Nicholson (d/o Peter Nicholson) and in 1930 she married John William Roper, s/o John W. Roper of Ingonish and Mary Rideout. This information through the Marriage Register. Lots of Ropers around Ingonish and I have the death certificates for John W. Roper,( s/o Hugh Roper and Elizabeth Carrey) and one for Hugh Roper, (son of John Roper and Eliza Roberts) who seems to be the father of John W. according to family lists in the census. Trouble is I cannot connect my relative's husband John William Roper with the namesake and father Hugh Roper. If anybody can clarify these Ropers a little for me, it would be appreciated. Thanks. Jane in Soggy Ottawa!

There was a magazine during that time called the Presbyterian Witness. The online information I can find is this: http://listsearches.rootsweb.com/th/read/NS-CAPE-BRETON/2001-11/1004797087 Perhaps someone who has access to the magazine can do a look up for you. I do know the FHL in Sydney, Cape Breton does have a copy and maybe someone can do a lookup for you if you query again.
