He was born August 5, 1938, in Kings County Memorial Hospital Berwick, N.S. He was the son of the late Stanley R. and Georgie (nee Taylor) Burton. He was a retired forestry worker. He always enjoyed the outdoors and hunting was one of his passions. His yearly trips to the "camp" added to his wide collection of stories. Anyone who walked through Mom and Dad's door would always be treated to his wonderful sense of humour and a tale or two. Every spring the house would become a mini-greenhouse, from tomato plants for Marguerite to eight-foot hollyhocks. We believe his ability to produce such a bountiful crop came from his "extra" green thumb. His proudest legacy were two children, who will miss him dearly. They hope they will inherit a small measure of his courageous perseverance and profound spirit. His grandchildren, Mariah, Reeve and Kyran provided him with such joy. His wife, Sara, of 42 years was his constant companion, best friend and forever love. Their commitment to each other was a testament to marriage "in sickness and in health." He is survived by his wife, the former Sarah Timmons; son, John J. Burton and wife Bonnie, Bible Hill, N.S.; daughter, Shauna A. Burton and fiancé, Aubrey Cranton, Margaree Centre, N.S.; his beautiful grandchildren, Mariah Fortune, Reeve and Kyran Burton; brothers, Laird (Marg), Margaree, N.S., Bert, North East Margaree, N.S.; sisters, Pastor Dale Crawford, Shubenacadie, N.S., and Liz (Gord), Margaree Forks, N.S and many nieces and nephews who loved their "Uncle George." 3. Hi all This is where I found the marriage records I wanted translated. It is a marriage records for St. Pierre & Miquelon. I don't know how if any way they fit into the Almon/Lallemand family, but I hang onto all such tidbits, so I was surprised when someone sent me a GEDCOM in response to an inquiry and it showed Jean Michel and Henriette=Julienne Caplain as Louis (Lewis)'s parents. The interesting note is they did not show Julie as being a daughter. http://www.acadian-home.org/St-Pierre.html Karen Researching Almon and variants, Jessome and variants, LeRoy (Roy and variants) and Chauvette visit my pond at www.karenspond.com ----- Original Message ----- From: "Betty Almon Felhaber" <bettena@sympatico.ca> To: "bob gillis" <robertgillis@verizon.net> Cc: <NS-CAPE-BRETON@rootsweb.com> Sent: Monday, July 28, 2008 5:50 PM Subject: Re: [NS-CB] translation please Karen, I, too would like to know the source of this record. 1. [NS-CB] NICHOLSON re a mystery John Nicholson
    2. Jane Nicholson
    3. Hi List.... In doing some "housekeeping", we again came across a request for help from a Calgary searcher (from last December) about a John Nicholson of Cow Bay. He was not in our Nicholson data bank, so I told the man in Calgary I didn't know anything about him, but looking at him again, I think he likely belongs to us, so am now trying to connect him. He appears in the 1881 Cow Bay census living next door to Ewen (Hugh) Nicholson and two houses down from William and Christy Nicholson. Here is his census info: Household Record 1881 Canadian Census Name Marital Status Gender Ethnic Origin Age Birthplace Occupation Religion John NICHOLSON M Male Scottish 53 Nova Scotia Sea Captain C. Presbyterian Jane NICHOLSON M Female Scottish 40 Nova Scotia C. Presbyterian Charles NICHOLSON Male Scottish 19 Nova Scotia Seaman C. Presbyterian John D. NICHOLSON Male Scottish 17 Nova Scotia C. Presbyterian Abby Mary NICHOLSON Female Scottish 13 Nova Scotia C. Presbyterian This John Nicholson would have been born around 1828, if the census age were correct, but it does say place of birth was Nova Scotia. Our Nicholsons did not come until 1840 so this John may be the son of a cousin or an elder brother we don't know about or who the heck knows! Apparently his son, John D., went out to Alberta and made quite a name for himself in the police forces, being the subject of a book in 1944. Any help, as always, gratefully accepted.... 3. Hi List.... Something was bothering me about that marriage record for these folks, so I asked my sister, who is a French professor at Universite Ste. Anne and she explained that "de feu" means "of the late", so in fact, the record below >>>> 1767 16 juillet: THOMAS François (navigateur), 23 ans, de Antoine >>>> et >>>> ?, de Faial aux Açores, B St-Pierre depuis 03 ans; et Servan-Julie >>>> ALLEMAND, 16 ans, de feu Jean-Michel et Henriette-Julienne CAPLAIN >>>> ayant épousé en 2e noces Jean-Baptiste NEVEU. >>> >>> Would translate as >>> 16 Jul 1767 Francois THOMAS, (sailor) 23 years old, [son] of >>> Antoine and ?, of Faial in the Azores, born St. Pierre, [living] >>> since 3 >>> years, [in Faial] and Julie-Servan Allemand, 16 year, [dau]of the >>> late Jean >>> Michel ALLEMAND and Henriette-Julienne CAPLAIN, now Madame Jean - >>> Baptiste NEVEU. Bob being right about the two marriages of Henriette Julienne, but Christine translating "ayant epouse en 2e noces" as M. Neveu being HJ's second husband, rather than her former husband. Christine also thinks it is more likely that the young bride's name was Julie-Servan rather than Servan-Julie. Anyway, that's the two cents' worth from the French shore!! Hope it helps. Jane >>
