Halifax Herald January 25, 1963 (4 obituaries)** SYDNEY - Mrs. Sarah Dewar, 86, of 400 Townsend St., died Thursday at City Hospital. She was the widow of Donald R. Dewar, who died 29 years ago. Mrs. Dewar was a charter member of the Presbyterian Church and life member of the Women's Missionary Society. Surviving are a son, John, two daughters, Lohla and Normena, all in Sydney, a sister, Mrs. Mary Beaton, Windsor, Ont.; a brother, Neil Beaton, Sydney. The remains are at the Fillmore Funeral Home from where the funeral will be Saturday at 2 p.m. Interment will be in Hardwood Hill Cemetery. Halifax Herald August 8, 1963 SYDNEY - John Landry, a well-known coal hauler, died Tuesday at the home of his daughter and son-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Clarence MacDonald, 58 Atlantic Street. Born at L'Ardoise, Mr. Landry lived on Hardwood Hill for the past 55 years. Twice married, he is survived by his second wife, Emeliat, five sons, Robert, Halifax; Louis, James, George and Bernard, all of Sydney; three daughters, Marjorie (Mrs. L.J. Reitzel), Kitchener, Ont., Mary (Mrs. James Leonard), Sydney and Norma (Mrs. Clarence MacDonald), Sydney. Mr. Landry's first wife, Mary Jane Landry, died in 1948. He was a member of St. Theresa's Church. The body is at the T.W. Curry Funeral Home where funeral will be Friday. Halifax Herald March 5, 1963 AMHERST - The death of Mrs. Lucy Evelyn MacKinnon Seaman occurred suddenly at her late residence, 13 Rupert Street on Saturday. She was born in Baddeck, the fourth child of the late Mr. and Mrs. Archibald MacKinnon. Mrs. Seaman graduated from Mount Allison University where she studied music and received her training as a registered nurse in Nassau Hospital, Mineola, New York. She married the late Herbert B. Seaman, who predeceased her in 1949. She resided in Westbury, Long Island until moving to Amherst in 1951. Surviving are her sister, Miss Jean MacKinnon and several nieces and nephews, The late Mrs. Seaman rested at Campbell's Funeral Home from where the service was held Monday at 10 a.m., Ven. Keylor, 74, a native of Kentville and Glace Bay resident 55 years, will be held today with Requiem Mass at St. Anne's Church at 10 a.m. Interment will be in the parish cemetery. Mr. Keylor, a painter and contractor, died Monday at City of Sydney Hospital. He became ill while in Sydney to visit a daughter, Mrs. Margaret MacIntyre. Mrs. Keylor, the former Elizabeth Donovan, died in 1961. Surviving are a son, Joseph, Glace Bay; five daughters, Mrs. Margaret MacIntyre, Sydney; Anna (Mrs. Traynor Donovan) and Mrs. Roy Kennedy, both of Glace Bay; Rachael (Mrs. John A. MacNeil), Edwardsville; Bertha (Mrs. Joseph MacKenzie) in France; and two sisters, Nellie and Tessie, Kentville. A son, John, and a daughter, Mary (Mrs. John Petrie) predeceased him. . Halifax Herald May 11, 1963 SYDNEY - The death of Mrs. Mildred Thompson occurred at City Hospital, Sydney. Born at Northport, Cumberland County in 1886, daughter of the late Henry and Minnie Anderson, she had spent the greater part of her married life in Oxford, having resided with her son, Sidney, Blackett's Lake, Cape Breton for the past eight years. She was a member of Trinity United Church, Oxford, where she had participated in various church activities, having been a member of the choir for over 30 years. Surviving are two daughters, Emma (Mrs. Neil MacRae), Bras d'Or, and Ruby (Mrs. Paul Hudak), Oxford; two sons, Sidney, Blackett's Lake, and Carman, Los Angeles, Calif. There are also three grandchildren and nine great grandchildren. Her husband predeceased her in 1943. The funeral service was held from Black's Funeral Home, Oxford, conducted by Rev. She was the daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. James Hunt of Bonavista, Nfld. She was a member of the United Church. She is survived by two daughters, Agnes (Mrs. H.D. Besborough) Minto, N.B. and Mazie (Mrs. R.D. Pynn) of Annapolis Royal, and three grandchildren. Her husband predeceased her 28 years ago. Halifax Herald September 23, 1963 SYDNEY - Beverley Ann Paul, 10, died Saturday in Glendale, Arizona. She had gone there July 29 after her parents decided that the Sydney native and Cornwallis School student might regain her health in Arizona climate. She recently underwent major surgery there. The child had various trips to Halifax in efforts to find a cure to her long illness. Finally, the parents decided to leave their home here and Mr. Paul resigned his job as salesman for a meat-packing firm. Her remains will be brought here and the family is expected to relocate in Sydney. Surviving besides her parents are two brothers, Douglas and David; and two sisters, Joanne and Theresa. Halifax Herald April 18, 1964 INVERNESS - A 40-year-old man was killed yesterday when the car in which he was a passenger smashed through a guard rail and plunged down a 75-foot embankment. He was Alexander Joseph MacLellan of Southwest Margaree. Driver of the car, John Leo MacDonnell of Margaree Harbor, escaped uninjured. RCMP said the car failed to negotiate a curve eight miles northeast of Inverness on Highway 19. MacLellan was thrown free and then pinned under the car, they said. Cape Breton Deaths August 04, 2008 Monday Patrick Allison Mahon 54, Louisbourg - It is with heavy hearts and great sadness that we, the family announce the sudden passing of Patrick Mahon, which occurred on July 30, 2008, as a result of a vehicle accident. Born in Louisbourg, he was the son of the late Patrick Thomas and Helen (Baldwin) Mahon. Pat was employed with J.R. Mahoney Ltd. as a refrigeration technician. Pat was an avid Screaming Eagles and Montreal Canadiens fan. He had a great sense of humour. He always enjoyed spending time with his family and giving a helping hand. He was a music enthusiastic and loved listening to many different artists. Pat is survived by his brothers, twin brother and best friend, Mike (Debbie), James (Jocelyn), Bernard (Peggy), all of Louisbourg; sisters, Patricia (Gerard) Lachance, Cole Harbour, Veronica Mahon, Cole Harbour, Maureen (Pierre) Gerdron, Gatineau, Que.; half brother, Joseph McMullin, Sydney River. He is also survived by his nieces and nephews, Jamie Mahon, Nicholas Lachance, Justin Mahon, Melissa Gendron, Christopher Gendron, Jacqueline Lachance, Patrick Mahon, Joseph Mahon, Adrianne Mahon and greatnephews, Owen Mahon and Avry Drolet.
