In the process of ironing out some wrinkles on the website of Greenwood Cemetery, Roger Tobin and I have been trying to make out a few obscure inscriptions. One, in section E5 of the cemetery, appears to be Vince Svoboda 1878 - 1965 The inscription is on a very corroded metal plate attached to quite a rough piece of concrete. There is no obituary for him in the Herald, according to the CD. While I haven't had a chance to check city directories as yet, I can't find any evidence for that surname (which is common in the Czech Republic) in Cape Breton. There was one family of that name in Pictou County, however. Does anyone know anything about this gentleman, or seen an obituary for him? Doug Grant

Born in Antigonish, he was a son of Archie and Anne Penny. He was always there to help family and friends if they needed it, no matter what time of day it was. Chad loved to spend time with his loving wife, Kowanda of 13 years and their son Damien. He would take them out on an evening ride on the bike or on the faithful Wednesday night bike ride with the boys. He had two loves in life; family and his bikes. He enjoyed being a mechanic where he was employed at Taylor Automotive. When it came to fixing bikes or cars he was full of knowledge. There was no job too big for him. He is also survived by three brothers, Kenny, Corky (Crystal Chapman) and Rory Penny; sister, Faith Penny; stepmother, Berlee Penny; brother-in-law, Jeff Millard (Jayne); nieces, Grace and Emma Millard; nephews, Jeremy and Braxton Penny. He was a special son-in-law to George and Eileen Millard. He was predeceased by his grandparents, Joseph and Helen McIntyre and Winston and Mary Penny. Visitation will be held on Sunday, Aug. 10 from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. in Colchester Community Funeral Home, 512 Willow St., Truro.
