Lauren: It really depends upon when time you ask the question. For example today there is no such thing as Little Bras d'Or only Bras d'Or. We still have (I believe) a Big Bras d'Or. We now have Boularderie consisting of many small villages such as Millville, Point Aconi, Millcreek and so on. ----- Original Message ----- From: "lauren macdonald" <swayball20@yahoo.com> To: "cape breton mailing list" <ns-cape-breton@rootsweb.com> Sent: Monday, December 15, 2008 2:39 PM Subject: [NS-CB] Boularderie and Bras D'or > Is Bras D'Or (including Big and Little) part of Boularderie Island or > their own towns? villages? > > Thanks :) > > > > > > ------------------------------- > To unsubscribe from the list, please send an email to > NS-CAPE-BRETON-request@rootsweb.com with the word 'unsubscribe' without > the quotes in the subject and the body of the message

May as well throw out another question to any locals - I have a picture I took along the main highway heading toward Baddeck (or maybe it was after baddeck heading away from Boularderie - It is a cemetery right along the highway with all wood looking white crosses. I thought it was an Indian cemetery, but my fiance said it couldn't be because indians wouldn't have crosses (?) - there is also a big crucifix stature in the center of cemetery. --- On Mon, 12/15/08, lauren macdonald <swayball20@yahoo.com> wrote: From: lauren macdonald <swayball20@yahoo.com> Subject: Re: [NS-CB] Boularderie and Bras D'or To: caperfca@sympatico.ca, wilfmorley@eastlink.ca, ns-cape-breton@rootsweb.com, Ds20065@aol.com Date: Monday, December 15, 2008, 5:46 PM Thanks for all your answers - ok -Wilfred's description was sort of easy to follow, then i was thrown by George's comment and now Don has me more lost than I was when i started. Hi I am conducting research on the Wildsmith Family whom I have recoded the Death of George Frederick and Wife Eleanor (nee Chamberlain) both of whom were buried in Trinity Anglican Church grounds with a memorial to their son Ralph KIA in Belgium in 1944. I am striving establish when he arrived in Sydney Mines, have been advised that George AKA Frederick worked as a butcher / Meat worker in the district, As they were married in Holy Trinity Church, Sydney Mines on 5 Dec 1912. So could some one advise when the census was done and if it is possible to check. I have see shipping records that indicate a male F Wildsmith born 1876 arrived Saint Johns NB 1911, this is possibly him however I cannot be assured. Also what butchers or Meat works were in existence during this era. Regards Bob Wilesmith NSW Australia
Hi; I am trying to connect with descendants of my great grandmother's family so that I can share information. Her name was Kate Carmichael and she was married in Baddeck around1875 to Murdoch Carmichael (same last name, no relation). I know a bit about her family, and almost nothing about Murdoch's family. Her father Robert, came from the Isle of Lewis around 1840 and they lived first around North River and later in Baddeck. Robert and his wife Catherine (MacLean) had eight children: Marion, Anne (m. MacLellan), Rachel (m. MacLeod), Neil (m Jessie?), lived in Boulardarie and was also a postmaster in either Baddeck or Sydney, Donald (m Ann Ross) lived in Maccan, Sarah (m Frank Anley) lived in Winnipeg, Mary (m Daniel MacPherson) lived in Albion Mines (aka Stellarton), and Kate my ggrandmother, m Murdoch Carmichael and lived in Baddeck, where they had one child (my grandmother Catherine). Kate's husband, Murdoch, left for the gold mines in the West (California?) around 1880 and was never heard from again, and was presumed dead. She later remarried to John Snow (1896) in Springhill, then moved to Winnipeg and on to the Crowsnest Pass area of Alberta, and finally Nelson BC. I am also trying to find any info about my ggrandfather Murdoch Carmichael, as the Presbyterian Church they were married in, in Baddeck, burned down sometime in the 1880's or 90's and as far as I know, all the records went with it.. My grandmother used to say his family was from the Isle of Skye, and they used to visit back and forth from Scotland. She also had a very old gaelic prayer book with the inscription, 'Ann Carmichael, Rear Baddeck, 1811', so his family may have been in Cape Breton for many years already. The older records for Cape Breton do not mention the gaelic settlers very often, and the ships records are non-existent for the most part, so I have hit a dead end here for many years. Many Thanks, Vi Hughes Edmonton

His Majesty is normally George IV, at least on my ancestor's land grant. George III - 1760-1820 George IV - 1820-1830 Sir James Kempt was Lieutenant Governor from 1820-1828. Not sure if any of his time was in the reign of George III or not.
I would suggest it refers to a petition made to Sir James Kempt, Lieutenant Governor and Commander in Chief, in and over his Majesty's Province of Nova Scotia.
I guess mine would be George IV also. I can't find the grant but that is the period I am dealing with. --- On Fri, 12/12/08, Richard Noble <nobler@accesswave.ca> wrote: From: Richard Noble <nobler@accesswave.ca> Subject: Re: [NS-CB] Kempt? Thanks - I probably should have known that but before discovering genealogy, History was my most hated subject. --- On Fri, 12/12/08, Richard Noble <nobler@accesswave.ca> wrote: From: Richard Noble <nobler@accesswave.ca> Subject: Re: [NS-CB] Kempt?
