    1. [NS-CB] Obituaries from the Metro West Daily News, Framingham, MA
    2. Dear Listers: The obituaries shown below are not related to me, but thought they might be leaves from some else's tree. If so, my condolences. Elizabeth ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Geraldine M. Abramo MIDDLEBURY, VT. Mrs. Geraldine M. 'Gerry' (Aucoin) Abramo, gifted artist, portrait painter and teacher, of Middlebury, Vt., formerly of Waltham and Marlborough, died peacefully Monday, Dec. 1, 2008, with her daughter at her side. She was 88. Gerry was born Aug.19, 1920, in Waltham, a daughter of the late Simon and Marie (LeBlanc) Aucoin. She was a graduate of Saint Mary's High School in Waltham and a lifelong student of art. In January of 1946, she married the love of her life, Nicholas J. Abramo, at Saint Joseph's Church in Waltham. In 1961, Gerry and Nick moved their family of five children from Waltham to Marlborough. Gerry enthusiastically researched her French/Acadian heritage, tracing her ancestry from France to Cape Breton, Nova Scotia. She was an avid reader who also enjoyed ice skating and tennis in her youth. Although she started drawing and painting at age seven, Gerry waited until after she raised her family to pursue her formal studies in art at age 52. With great desire she attended the Worcester Art Museum School in Worcester from 1973 to 1976. She also studied at The Art Student League in New York City and at Boston's Fenway Studios, where she refined her techniques in classical realism. Gerry traveled to Europe where she went on sabbatical to research the old masters at the Louvre Museum in Paris and at the Prado Museum in Madrid. Gerry also loved to teach and taught private and public classes in portraiture and still life at her studio in Marlborough and at Endicott College in Peabody. She received more than 300 commissions for portraits and her works are hung in libraries and homes throughout the United States and Germany. Her greatest gift to those around her was her ability to nurture the potential in other people. She was able to see the beauty in others and support that beauty to its fullest. This gift was always supplied with a dose of humor, wit and irony. Many hours of laughter were shared by family and friends with this very special woman. She was a true and loyal friend, the heart of her family, and will be dearly missed. Her husband, Nick, died in 1968. Gerry leaves her children, Joseph Abramo and his wife, Jane, of Princeville, Hawaii, David Abramo of Worcester, Marsha Abramo of Monkton, Vt., and Nicholas Abramo Jr. and his wife, Lynn, of Mililani, Hawaii; a sister, Corrine Jome of Westerly, R.I.; nine grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. She was also the mother of the late Cynthia A. Abramo and sister of the late Muriel Mulrain. Calling hours are Tuesday, Dec. 9, 8:30 to 9:30 a.m., at The Joyce Funeral Home, 245 Main St. (Rte. 20), Waltham, followed by a funeral Mass at Our Lady Comforter of the Afflicted Church, 880 Trapelo Road, Waltham, at 10 a.m. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery, Waltham. Memorial donations may be made to the Museum of Fine Arts, 465 Huntington Ave., Boston, MA 02115. Since Nov. 21, MacLean has been outside the London Drugs store at Granville and Georgia with her decorated Sally Ann kettle and her eight sets of bells nearly every day, calling on the public to spread a little cheer to Metro Vancouver’ s less fortunate. It’s a gig she’s been doing now for the past eight years, through cold, rain, sleet and snow. She even went out in last week’s snowstorm but went home early because the shoppers were all inside. “I love it. I want to be outside and I’m helping other people,” said MacLean, who will celebrate her 58th birthday on Christmas Eve. “I’ve always done things for other people.” Down the road at Pacific Centre, Alex Starogardzki has worked on the Sally Ann campaign off and on for the past 30 years. He has braved rain and sleet and freezing temperatures that left icicles “hanging down from your beard.” He estimates that about half the people who pass stop to donate, but the money does add up. He and MacLean are just a few of the people who help the needy during the Christmas season. Some donate their time to serve the homeless and others less fortunate at the Union Gospel Mission and Salvation Army Christmas dinners throughout the region. Volunteers must book early to help out during the Christmas season. Others have volunteered at the Union Gospel Mission’s women’s drop-in centre to plan Christmas parties or make wreaths for people living in the area’s housing developments. Clem grew up on a prosperous farm in Poulamon, moving to Sydney in 1935 and remained a parishioner at Sacred Heart parish for over 70 years. He was one of the longest serving members of the KOC. He was well known to all in downtown Sydney, where he lived for 52 years. He was a skilful pool player, an avid sports fan enjoying hockey, ball games, wrestling and horse races. Clem was active into his late 80s, skating regularly at the local rinks and outdoors, bicycling and cruising in his 1984 Delta Oldsmobile which he immaculately maintained. Clem's philosophy of life has always been "You rust out faster than you wear out" and reflecting on his active lifestyle and his longevity, he certainly proved this true. His greatest joy in life came from his interest in his children and grandchildren with whom he enjoyed almost frequent contact. Respecting Clem's wishes, cremation has taken place. Visitation will be held at T.W. Curry Parkview Chapel, Sunday, Dec. 28 from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Funeral mass will be celebrated at Sacred Heart Church on Monday, Dec. 29 at 10 a.m. Family flowers only please. The family wishes to express sincere gratitude to the staff of Cape Breton County Home Makers, R.C. MacGillivary Guest Home and Harbourstone Enhanced Care, (Spanish Bay) for the absolute wonderful care that our Dad received over the past two years. In his weakened physical state, Dad was always treated with dignity, cheerfulness and respect. We sincerely thank his caregivers for their professional dedication to their tasks. God bless. 3. I suspect she is the Dinah Tutty, who is in the death records as dying on 28 (not 18th) August 1934 (not 1954), aged 92 years, 8 months and 10 days. The daughter of James Peach by his wife Margaret Wadden, and widow of Alonzo Tutty. Buried at Big Lorraine. ----- Original Message ----- From: <Ds20065@aol.com> To: <NS-CAPE-BRETON@rootsweb.com> Sent: Monday, December 22, 2008 12:49 PM Subject: [NS-CB] DINAH TUTTY AUG. 18, 1954 AGE 92 > Can anyone identify that above noted person for me. Donnie is survived by his former wife (but still very close) and mother of his four children, Elizabeth MacGillivary; his daughters, Diane Slaunwhite (Gary), Dartmouth, Donna Niehaus (Greg), Dartmouth, Laurie MacGillivary (Rhonda Hill), Edmonton, Alta.; and his son, Robert MacGillivary (Rosanne), Ottawa, Ont.
