After 91 years of devotion to his family and friends, Jack passed as quietly and peacefully as he lived. Jack was born at Sydney, Dec. 13, 1917. He was the eldest son of James E. Tutty and Phoebe Sams. His proudest accomplishment was his service to his country as a member of the Cape Breton Highlanders overseas during the Second World War. Jack was a member of Branch 3 legion, Glace Bay. Over the years he participated during poppy campaigns, burial committee, social committee and as flag bearer for various ceremonies. Jack loved to dance and have a beer with his buddies at the legion. Jack was a very quiet and unassuming man of tremendous strength. In his youth he enjoyed the tranquility of fishing, hunting and gardening. Jack was truly a "Jack of all trades." He was a capable shoemaker, bricklayer, mechanic, carpenter, plumber and gardener. He took great pride in being self-sufficient and never wanted to be a burden on anyone. Jack had a wonderful sense of humour and his smile touched the hearts of all those who knew him. He was employed with Dominion Tar and Chemical, Hulford and as a miner with Devco. Jack worked in No. 4 (Caledonia), No. 20 and No. 26. Jack is survived by son, Jackie (Judy), Glace Bay; daughter, Brenda (James) Wheelhouse, Sydney; and three grandchildren, Brianna (Tutty), Michelle and Jonathon (Wheelhouse). Jack is also survived by sisters, Cora (Mrs. Harris Anthony), Ontario, and Shirley (Mrs. Gerald Brufatto), Glace Bay; and brother, Ken (Victoria), Glace Bay; plus numerous nieces and nephews. Full-time attendants also became family over the past three years, Sheila Parson, Jacqueline LeMoine, Gina Cox and Connie Carrigan. Jack will also be sadly missed by his two cats, K-2 and Hobo. 1. [NS-CB] Burkes
    2. I came across, thanks to the indexing work of Wayne MacVicar, in the Sydney Post Saturday March 4, 1905 a note about the funeral of the late Bridget Burke wife of Capt. Joe Burke taking place at the Catholic Cemetery that day presumably in Louisbourg as it was in a Louisbourg column. That is all it said. Does anyone know who this Bridget is? Was she a Wilson by any chance? The Bridget Wilson I am looking for was born around 1865 at Kennington Cove. All I know is that she was supposed to have married a Burke. Thanks John Wilson

    3. Hi Helen; I have a Margaret'Maggie' MacIntosh, born about 1878, died March 16, 1900. She was married to my great-uncle Alexander MacPhee on July 9, 1899 in East Bay. Her parents were Angus MacIntosh and Mary [--?--]. One of the witnesses at the marriage was a Lizzie MacIntosh. From the marriage and death dates it looks like Margaret may have died in childbirth. Sandy remarried about three or four years later and had 10 children. Hope this helps. Rod.

    2. Arlene Ragan
    3. Hi All, I was wondering if anyone knows anything on a Christine MacKinnon from Lake Ainslie who married a BHC, Alfred Owen? Alfred was placed with the family of Alexander MacKinnon from Mount Young. Alfred was born in 1913 in Southampton England. In 1942 Alfred and Christine? were in Holland .They sent a postcard to Alfred's sister .He told her he was a sapper and stationed in Holland. Alfred and Christine moved to Ontario ,supposedly had one child . Little more is known about them. Alfred was friends with another BHC a Leonard Denton who was placed with a Miller family in the same area. Both boys were said to have come over on the same ship. Thanks, Arlene _________________________________________________________________ So many new options, so little time. 1. [NS-CB] McIntosh in Big Pond
    2. Helen Whyte
    3. Is there anyone who can help with the family of Angus and MaryAnn MacIntosh in Big Pond or Ben Eoin?  They had six children: Donald, Sarah, Margaret, Mary, Angus, and Joseph, all born during the 1880s.  I have no idea what happened to these McIntosh sons and daughters; as far as I can tell they were all still alive at the time of the 1901 Census.  Any help much appreciated.  MaryAnn was the second child of Angus and Annie McNeil of Big Pond. Thanks, Helen Whyte
