Born in Port aux Basques, she was the daughter of the late Joseph and Susan (Chant) Richards. She was a member of St. John the Baptist Anglican Church, North Sydney. Elizabeth is survived by her loving husband, James E. Connolly; and her children, Shirley (Willard) Keeping, Albert (Leanne) Connolly, Brantford, Jim (Lindalea) Connolly, North Sydney, Bridget (Eric) Roesler, Pembrooke, Ont., Yvonne (Robert) Clissold, Oshawa, Joe (Diane) Connolly, Brantford, and Jason (Nadine) Connolly, Sydney Mines; one brother, Morgan (Doris) Richards, Cambridge, Ont., also surviving are 17 grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by a daughter, Josephine, three brothers, Joe Richards, Jim Richards and Edward Richards, three sisters, Jessie Richards, Alfreda Richards, Beth Richards, a granddaughter, Jennifer Keeping. Visitation for Elizabeth will be held from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. today in the W.J. Dooley Funeral Home, 107 Pleasant St., North Sydney. A funeral service to be held 2 p.m., Friday at St. John the Baptist Anglican Church, North Sydney, with Rev. Gloria McClure-Fraser officiating. Robert Laplante, Oromocto at Chicoutimi , Quebec , Canada - With great sadness and loss, we regret to announce the passing of Robert Joshua Laplante age 18 of Glace Bay, NS. Robert passed away on Monday, March 16, 2009 at the Oromocto Hospital, New Brunswick. Born in Chicoutimi Quebec, Robert was the proud son of Yves and Debbie (Headley) Laplante of Glace Bay, NS. Robert loved spending time and hanging out with his friends and family. He was attending GBHS and was expecting to graduate in the spring. When he wasn't busy with school and work, he could be found at the local skate park enjoying the jumps and entertaining the population. He was also employed at KFC in Sydney River. Robert has left many unforgettable memories in all of our hearts. He will also be remembered forever for his "joie de vivre", his carefree spirit and great personality. Robert will be greatly missed by his family and friends. Robert is survived by his only sister, Samantha Laplante, currently attending the Royal Military College in Kingston, Ont. and his grandmother Beatrice Laplante of Val Dor Quebec. Robert is also survived by his aunts, Lynda and Claude (Laplante) Bourassa, Val Dor Quebec, Deannie Brewster, Mary (Brewster) Peters, Adie and Glenn (Brewster) Murphy, of Glace Bay; uncles, Richard (Barbe) Headley, Kevin (Blanche) Headley, Donald (Jackie) Headley, Benji Brewster, all of Glace Bay, Calvin (Terry) Headley of Halifax Nova Scotia, Luke Lucas of Sydney N.S., and numerous cousins and great cousins. Mary 'Booie' Matthews, Sydney - It is with great sadness that we mourn the death of Mary, who passed away on Wednesday, March 18, 2009, at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital. She was a native of New Victoria, the daughter of the late Frank and Eliza (Sheppard) Hogan. Mary leaves behind her children, Debbie, Stephen and Billy. Also surviving are brother, Lloyd 'Muzzy' Hogan (Theresa); sisters, Geraldine Black and Marjorie Hillier (Bobby Aucoin). She will also be missed by brother-in-law, John Pegg; sister-in-law, Pauline Hogan and Donna Young and many nieces, nephews and cousins. She was predeceased by her loving husband, Matty Charles Matthews; as well as sisters, Sue, Fran, Lorraine and brothers, Clarence, Michael and Francis, in infancy. As per Mary's request, cremation has taken place under the direction of McLellan Brothers Funeral Home, 3183 Plummer Ave., New Waterford, 862-7500. A farewell funeral service to celebrate 'Booie's' life will be held for all friends and family in the funeral home chapel on Friday, March 20, 2009 at 2 p.m. with Deacon Leo Penny officiating. Mike lived and worked in New Waterford as a coal miner for most of his life. In his later years, he moved back to Sydney Mines, where he resided with his niece Brenda (Darryle) Pyke. Born in Glace Bay, Jimmy was the son of the late Murdoch and Ida (Ward) Matheson. He was a member of St. John the Baptist Church, Glace Bay. Jimmy served with the United Nations Peace Force as a dental technician and visited many parts of the world on the Destroyer, Quebec. After service in Korea, he returned to Canada where he was struck down by illness which he endured until his death, ending a promising career in the military. Jimmy is survived by his siblings, Delores Young, Glace Bay, Cammie (Barry Gillis), North Sydney, Ethel (John Tennant), Ottawa, Maria (James Tutty), Lower Sackville, Bernadette (Bill Dixon), Stouville, Ont., Ida (Ron Winstanley), Oxbridge, Ont., Beverly, Toronto, Wayne (Josie), Ottawa, Reeves (Valerie), Halifax, Bernard (Lois), Mississauga, Ray (Judy), Chatham, Ont., and several nieces and nephews. In addition to his lifetime involvement with the legion, he enjoyed reading, writing poetry, home brewing, following current events, cooking, working at the firewood, spending time in his fishing shack and family Christmas parties. Providing for his family, was always a priority and a source of pride. He worked as a woodsman, truck driver, fisherman. janitor, legion manager, maintenance man, garbage collector, bottle exchange owner, manager of the Baddeck legions' outdoor rink and keeper of the Kidston Island Lighthouse, these often in the multitude of combinations. His work took him from the Canso Causeway to Pinaude's Boatyard, to Victoria County Memorial Hospital, to Royal Canadian Legion Branch 53 and on the Bras d'Or Lakes. Visitation will be at MacAskill's Funeral Home, Baddeck, on Tursday, March 19, 2009, from 2-9 pm, with the Royal Canadian Legion service at 7 pm. MacDonald of Hudson, NH Friday, March 13, 2009 at St. Joseph’s Hospital in Nashua, NH. He was married to the late Mrs. Leona (Fitzpatrick) MacDonald who died March 2, 2005. Born in Antigonish, Nova Scotia, Canada on Dec. 6, 1916, the son of the late Alex and Mary (Gillis) MacDonald. He was a graduate of St. Michael’s Elementary School in Lowell, MA, and Lowell High School with the class of 1936. He served with the U.S. Army during World War II in the Pacific Theatre. Over the years he was employed as a Professional Umpire with the minor leagues, and as a Civilian Auto Technician at Ft. Devens in Ayer, MA with the U.S. Army and the Massachusetts National Guard. He was a former communicant of Sacred Heart Church of Lowell, MA, St. Joseph’ s Church of Nashua, NH, and was currently a very active communicant at St. Kathryn Church of Hudson, NH. He was a past member of Walker-Rogers V.F.W. Post in Lowell, MA, and a current member and Board of Trustee of the VFW Post 5791 of Hudson, NH. Langton, J.J.M. - published March 16, 2009 ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- May Cambridge, Whitney Pier at Sydney , Nova Scotia , Canada May Loretta (King) Cambridge 76, Whitney Pier - It is with heavy hearts, we announce the passing of our beloved mother, grandmother and great-grandmother who passed away at home on Friday, March 13, 2009, surrounded by her loving family. Born in Sydney, she was the daughter of the late Violet and Gus King. May was a member of Holy Redeemer Church, Sydney. She was an avid bingo player and enjoyed attending bingo with her bingo buddies at St. Philip's Church. May will be forever remembered and loved by her three children whom she loved and adored Karl (Cleo), Jerome and Darlene. She is also survived by her sisters, Ella (King) Axworthy, Dorothy (King) English; and a brother, Ed, all of Sydney; her five grandchildren, Corey, Chase, Elissa, Theo and Brianna and two great-grandchildren, D'Andre, Jamila, who were the love of her life. She was predeceased by her longtime companion, Phonso Bishop and three brothers, John, Fred and Gerald King. There will be no visitation as cremation has already taken place. The funeral service to celebrate her life will take place Wednesday, March 18 at Holy Redeemer Church 11 a.m. with Rev. Errol MacDonald officiating. In lieu of flowers donations in May's memory may be made to the Palliative Care Unit, or charity of choice. Condolences may be sent to the family at sydneymemorialchapel@ns.sympatico.ca. Emil Went, New Waterford at Gardiner Mines , Nova Scotia , Canada Today I lost my father Today I lost my friend. - It is with great sadness that we tell you that our father, Emil Went, went to his eternal rest on March 15, 2009, at New Waterford Consolidated Hospital with his daughter, Marian and Paul by his side. He is now eternally and forever with his wife, Eileen, his special son, Jamie and son, John. Emil was a father, brother, uncle, grandfather, great-grandfather and friend. He was born to Russian parents, the late Emil and Sophie Went, Gardiner Mines. Dad spent most of his years living in Scotchtown raising his family and the last two years living with his daughter Marian and Paul Vienneau in Dominion. He was predeceased by sisters, Lydia, Alwina and Olga and brothers, Rin and Albert. He is survived by his brother, Ad (Audrey), Ottawa. He is survived by his daughter and caregiver, Marian (Paul) Vienneau, Dominion, with whom he resided the past two years. He will be greatly missed by Marian, Paul and granddaughter, Courtney and also grandson, Chris (Tara) and great-granddaughter, Madisyn Paige. Also missed by grandchildren, Christine (Stuart) Chiasson and Mike Went, both of New Brunswick. He is survived by a daughter, Linda (Richard) Thornhill, British Columbia; grandson, Ken, Japan; and great-grandson, Elric, British Columbia. Love you lots Dad, love Linda. Growing up in the Gardiner on a farm, working in the coal mines, being a fireman and his love of people made him the man he was. Dad was a kind, gentle, hard-working man. He was a coal miner for 45 years. This was his life and if you worked for Emil Went in the pit, he expected you to work as hard as him. He was well respected by all his fellow miners and by everyone he met. His second love was the Scotchtown Volunteer Fire Department. He belonged to this for 60 years and was greatly respected there. He loved going down to the fire hall in the afternoon to check on the boys and have a good game of tarabish. He always liked to win. He was a member of the New Waterford Pensioners' Club and ran the card games and the pension fund for years. He loved a good game of 45s and he especially loved being out with the people he would meet. Dad and Jamie were quite a fixture at the card games and the fire hall the last 15 years. Visitation will be held Wednesday from 7-9 p.m. and Thursday from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. at V.J. McGillivray Funeral Home, 380 Smith St., New Waterford. A fireman's funeral will be held Friday, March 20 at 10 a.m. in the Parish of St. Leonard, St. Michael Church, River Ryan, with Fr. Paul MacNeil officiating. Interment will follow in Forest Haven Memorial Gardens, Sydney. A celebration of life luncheon will take place at the KOC hall in New Waterford immediately following the funeral mass. Donations in his memory may be made to the Scotchtown Volunteer Fire Department, the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Nova Scotia or the Parish of St. Leonard, New Waterford. William Joseph "Trapper" Morrison, 77, Sydney - It is with heavy hearts that we, the family announce the passing of Bill Morrison on Sunday, March 15, 2009, at the Harbourstone Enhanced Care Facility. Born in Point Clear, Boularderie, he was the son of the late John Morrison and Mary Belle MacMillan. In earlier years, he was employed with Cape Breton Dairyman and later became a member of the Labourers International Union Local No. 1115 as a truck driver and labourer and was employed with Miller and Hughes Ltd., Sydney, until his retirement. He enjoyed the outdoors, going fishing and spending time in Gabarus with his good friends Billy and Joan Mills. Bill is survived by his four children, Donna (Bill) Murphy of Sydney. So I am not sure it is IE 7 that is the problem as it works for me on my PC. I have not bothered to find out who as my FF crashes all the time and I have migrated to IE6 for those sites where it will not work. IE should be on your computer so open it up and go to the site and select the record you want to view. View, click on the image to enlarge,use the blue bar to go down the image, then put the cursor on the image and drag it the rest of the way up.
