She was the daughter of the late Joseph and Sebina Marsh of Mill Creek, N.S. Frances was born in Mill Creek and lived the majority of her life in beautiful Point Aconi. Frances was the youngest girl of 16 children. She married her first husband, Bernard Beaton (deceased) in 1945 and her second husband Leo Francis Jessome (deceased) in 1961. She has a total of five children, Kevin Beaton (Helen) of Mill Creek, Richard Beaton (deceased) (Laura)of Mill Creek, John Beaton (Maria) of Stoney Creek, Ont., Francine Bona (Brian) of Gardner Mines and an infant son who died at birth. She is survived by her sister, Josephine Campbell, Mill Creek. Frances adored all of her granddaughters and great-grandchildren. Her grandchildren are Tanya Bagshaw, Alberta, Danielle Francis, Ontario, Aimee Bachman, Massachusetts, Dawn-Michelle Timms, Ontario, Joanie MacRae, Point Aconi, Monique Boutilier, Ontario and Sonia Vukelich, Ontario. Her great-grandchildren are Rialy, Laura-Lynn, Marget Joan, Ryan, Madison, Gavin, Ella, Brennan, Noah, Emilia, Lucas, Lily, Abigail (deceased) and the newest great-grandchild Reagan and a baby boy to be born in January. Frances was predeceased by her brothers, Clarence, Ignatious 'Buddy', Melvin, Leo, Pat, and Garfield Marsh. Also, her sisters, Hazel Campbell, Viola Campbell and Dorothy Quinn. Frances will be remembered for many things but one that sticks out was her baking! Nan loved to bake and share her goodies with everyone. From carrot cake, bread, and fried dough to apple and lemon pies, fruit cake, chocolate cake with boiled icing and scones. Delicious, yummy treats always devoured and never any leftovers. Thankfully she shared her recipes with her family and each time one of these are made by one of us she will be remembered and thought of. Frances will be remembered as being a simple woman but very active, always working in the yard, painting, and staying busy. She appreciated an orderly and clean house which has rubbed off on her granddaughters! She owned a Siberian husky for a number of years, Yukon, who surprisingly she adored! Frances was a member of St. Joseph's Church, Bras d'Or, N.S. She prayed every morning and St. Anne was her patron saint. We will miss her prayers for us. She adored all of her granddaughter's husbands and would remind us all of how wonderful they were and how lucky we were. She was reminded jokingly that they were lucky too and that would make her laugh. Only one granddaughter lives in Cape Breton and whenever some of them came home to visit, it was a must to bring with them her two favourite things: a Tim Hortons coffee and some scratch tickets. For fun, Frances frequented the casino. She would play the slot machines and be tickled pink coming home with her winnings. Our Nan was a tart lady with strength, stubbornness and loyalty. She was loved and respected by her family and Cape Breton will never be the same for us. Visitation for Frances will be 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Saturday in the W.J. Dooley Funeral Home, 107 Pleasant St., North Sydney. Cremation to follow. A funeral mass will be held 10:30 a.m., Monday at St. Joseph Church, Bras d'Or, with Rev. Peter McLeod officiating. Michael Hayes Born: August 2nd, 1928 Passed on: August 19th, 2013 The world has lost a man of profound faith, acceptance and determination. Mickie's faith was amazing. When his wife Joanie passed we were afraid for him. The strength he showed was something indeed. He said she was with God and that comforted him. His life was not an easy one. He didn't grow up privileged but grew into a man who was gentle and kind of heart. He wasn't privileged but it was a privilege to know him. In the early years, every morning before heading out to work at the steel plant, he would make breakfast for all his kids and bring Joanie a cup of tea and some toast to her in bed. Someone once asked why did he do that and he said she has to take care of the kids all day long so it was the least he could do to help her. After his accident at the plant, Mickie had to retire. This was a difficult time for him having worked his whole life. His life was now described as before the accident and after it. From being an independent man to one that had to rely on others, he adapted. When life in the Meadows, where he and Joanie had built their life and their home, became too much of a challenge, they moved to the Pier. Here they spent many years socializing and living the "city life." He enjoyed his time there but his heart was always in the country. He loved telling stories about hunting deer and growing up on the farm in Woodbine. They had very little but he thought and it was probably right, they had everything. He would tell stories about how he and his brothers would be pulling off some kind of shenanigans or about how his mother would spin wool and then knit mittens and blankets from it. Every night they would get on their knees and say the rosary and he spoke of taking the horse and wagon to Christmas Eve mass at St. Mary's in East Bay. He spoke in later years of he and his brother Hughie going back to the farm and tending the garden they had put in or just going out there for a drive. Up until his death, Hughie and Mickie spoke Gaelic to each other. He loved Celtic music. His youngest daughter Charlene was a gift born to him when he was a bit older. She was only a few months old when he was hurt in the plant accident. This meant that he spent a lot of time with her as a baby and then as a toddler to the point where she went everywhere with him. His friends and family would come out and take him for drives and she always wanted to go. She was told one day that Dad was going and she was staying home and to not make a fuss about it. She was about three. She said to him "May I see you for a minute in the hall." He didn't have the heart to leave without her. Just as there were the two parts of his life, before and after the accident, there were two other parts that overlap this, with Joanie and the journey he began after losing Joanie. After Joanie passed, he spent his days at the VON day program. Here he showed how adaptive and accepting he was. He wanted to help and he did. We want to thank the people of this program for giving Mickie a place where he could go and feel useful, where he enjoyed himself and where he was treated with kindness and respect. The next stop on his journey was the Inverary Manor in Inverness. To be driven a couple of hours away from your home and your life and taken to a place where you had no family or friends must have been difficult. He didn't want to stay but we asked him to do it and he did. It wasn't long before he was surrounded by family because that's what the place became to him. It became his home. He loved being there and they loved him. In fact, when the time came to move back to Sydney he didn't want to leave and they didn't want him to go. Our heartfelt thanks to the staff of the Inverary Manor for loving Mickie and making his transition easier. The third part of the journey began at the R.C. MacGillivary Guest Home in Sydney. Here he spent the final years of his life. Once again he didn't want to stay but we asked him to try it and he did. Mickie would be in the lobby and would greet everyone that came through the door. He loved to help and said one day that some people needed help and he wanted to give it. One phrase you would often here him say was "can I help." Once again he was surrounded by family. We don't have the words to fully express our gratitude to his family at the MacGillivary Home. We offer special thanks for the care and love that you showed him and his family in his final days. The final stop on his journey was on Monday morning two weeks after his 85th birthday. The morning mass was broadcast over the speakers and about five minutes after it ended Michael left this world to join his Heavenly Father. We believe he could hear it. We thank Fr. Rankin for his time with Mickie. Michael, son of the late John and Sadie, was predeceased by the love of his life, his wife Joan (Mombourquette). They had been married for close to 50 years and had six children together. He is survived by his brother, Hugh (Florence); children, Heather (Ervin), Michael Francis (Sharon), Patrick (Anne-Marie), Jean (Ken), Florence (Steve) and Charlene (Shawn). He is also survived by 13 grandchildren and one great-granddaughter. He is also survived by brothers-in-law, Joe (Betty), Leo (Dale) and Brian (Krista) Mombourquette, sisters-in-law, Anna (Al) Bennet, Paulette (Angie) Pearson, Louise (Gordie ) MacDonald and Charlene (Hughie) MacDonald. Human tribulation teaches you; it does not destroy you. The more we are afflicted in this world, the greater is our assurance for the next. Born Sept. 13, 1945, she was a daughter of the late George and Kaye Mansfield of Florence. Polly worked for many years at the Northside General Hospital as a switchboard operator in the admittance department. She was highly regarded by her co-workers and friends as a humble, kindly soul with a playful wit, integrity, shining spirit and no nonsense attitude when it came to her work. Polly passed on this work ethic to many she had trained over the years, who still remain faithful friends to this day; to know her was to love her. She so enjoyed talking to her phone friends while taping her favourite shows to watch after midnight. Polly leaves behind to mourn sisters, her true friend and twin, Pammie (Herb) Pye, Florence, Lynn (Brian) Dunn, Kamloops, B.C., Kaye (Ken) Lewis, Coxheath, and Holly Ann, Breton Ability Centre; brothers, Leckie (Del), Fall River, Brady, Kamloops, B.C., and Danny, Newfoundland. As well as mother-in-law, Mary Cassidy; sister-in-law, Cathy Fudge; brother-in-law, Bobby Cassidy; loving aunt and uncle, Shirley and Bernie Tobin, aunt, Gwen Tobin; and many nieces, nephews and cousins. Besides her parents, she was predeceased by husband, Charlie, sister, Jackie, brother, Nickie and grandparents, Nick and Annie Tobin of Florence. On behalf of the family we would like to thank her "angel" friend, Nancy Devoe, Lisa Confiant and Kevin Tobin for the years of unconditional love you have shown our sister. Thank you to sister-in-law, Sylvia Mansfield, for accompanying Polly to her many appointments. Many thanks to the nursing staff of the Cape Breton cancer unit, for your compassionate care. Special thanks to the nursing staff of the Northside General Hospital, 4th Floor, for your exceptional care and the compassion shown to Polly's family. You will never be forgotten. Thanks to Dr. John Ritter, Kathy MacMullin and Diane McInnis of Palliative Care for your unending devotion. Dr. Micheal and Louise McKeough, how can this family ever thank you both. We are so grateful that Polly had your professional care and friendship over the years. Thank you Dr. Doug Kohlsmith for providing Polly with your gentle and kind compassion. In keeping with Polly's wishes, cremation has taken place and there will be no service. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to the care and direction of Francis Funeral Home, Sydney Mines. Donations in Polly's memory may be made to her favourite charity, the Cape Breton Patient Care Fund. Expressions of sympathy may be sent to the Cassidy family by visiting www.francisfuneralhome.ca. 3. Puzzled by a couple of things. Have clicked on your website for 1921 and can't seem to see it come up. So if someone can put in Walter Cecil Corey living in Sydney and aged about 7. Father was Fred Corey. Also, Ancestry.ca advertises $9.95 and I am being charged $14.95 for what is supposed to be Ancestry.ca.
