Subject: Middleton, Annapolis Co., NS 1921 census Hi everybody . I recently transcribed the Middleton of 171/2 pages. I was very frustrated in doing. Previously I had done the 1901 and 1911 census for parts of Annapolis County, Cape Breton and Lunenburg County. These were not as frustrating to do. What system was used in those early census readings? It was much easier. I don't remember going through Ancestry com. Wayne are you compiling all of them? I still can't get into your sight. I thought I had followed instructions but get stuck with password. I'd gladly do some around Middleton unless they are already done, or go into Sydney or Lunenburg County. Cheers, Wilf Wilf Morley [email protected]
Suzanne It took some time to find your tree on ancestry - there are lots of similarly named trees. On one part of the page it tells me that you have three trees - the two you listed and another; it also says that you have been a member since 2012 and have not logged in for nine months. Elsewhere it says that you logged in two days ago... When you post your tree to ancestry, as a public tree, it can be viewed by anyone logged into ancestry. If you want your tree to be available to someone that is not an ancestry member, may I suggestthe Rootsweb World Connect project. Using ancestry as a resource is good because of the amount of data that they have but personally I don't like their search engine. Family Search is good and is free, and you might try Scotlands People. Clare Leterte Born In: Sydney Passed in: Sydney Passed on: October 27th, 2013 Sadness fills our hearts as we regretfully announce the passing of our dear mother, grandmother, great grandmother and friend, Clare Leterte, on Sunday, October 27, 2013, at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, Sydney, with her family at her bedside. Born in Sydney, she was the daughter of the late John and Christina (Roberts) Murphy. She was the last surviving member of her immediate family. A long drive along the back roads of Cape Breton was an activity that Mom took great pleasure in. >From early days with Dad and friends, until as recently as last week, she got to watch the beauty of the island and beyond pass by. In years past, she worked at Simpsons and she was an avid skater. That was where she met her future husband Victor and together that love for skating was passed on to her children. Family and friends were very important to Mom and she seemed to be at her best when the house on Harold Street was full. The 'grand opening' at Christmas time was an event to be remembered. The living room was filled with presents, warm feelings and Mom's laugh could be heard throughout the evening. Her bright blue eyes would sparkle for family and unexpected guests and always when Santa arrived. Clare was a stay at home Mom and her concern was that family was healthy, happy and well taken care of. She is survived by four children, Paul (Karen), Mira; Vicki (Joe Orkish), Sydney; Dale (Gwen Carey), East Bay and Christopher, at home. Also surviving are her eight grandchildren, Jennifer (Darryl Huett), Paul Marcus (Natasha Pitchuk), Terry, Ryan (Ali), Meghan (Jason), Chelsea, Riley and Kaylee; great grandchildren, Brandon, Harrison, Ella, Chloe and Mason, nieces and nephews and Minnie the cat. Tom 'Topper' Jones Passed in: New Waterford Passed on: October 22nd, 2013 Tom (Topper) Jones, a kind and loving man, left his family and friends Tuesday, October 22nd, 2013. With him as he died were his sons, Kirk and Adam and sisters Anne and Freda. His parents, Marcella (MacDonald) and Tom (Mate) Jones, taught their children to love and care for each other. Through their acts of generosity to others, their children learned to help those in their community. Topper took these lessons to heart, always being loyal to family and friends. Topper loved his parents and looked after them in their later years. He enjoyed hunting with his father and taking long rides to enjoy the Cape Breton scenery. As they drove along he would point and say "I did that roof, that foundation and that furnace." You can see how Topper left his mark all over Cape Breton. Those who will especially miss him are his sons Kirk and Adam (Clare); sisters Freda (George) Fraser, Ontario, Anne (David) Jack and brother Billie, both of Victoria, BC. His nieces and nephews will lovingly miss their Uncle Topper. Joey MacDougall and Topper were blood brothers and worked together since Joey was 16. He and his family were like a second family to Topper. Topper had a charismatic personality, lighting up a room with this presence. He always showed a special kindness towards the elderly. All his friends said he would have been a millionaire if he had been paid for all of the work he did for others. He also had a special place in his heart for animals. When you went to his house Beowulf the dog would greet you wagging his tail. And Topper and Mindy Bird, a pigeon brought home with a broken wing, shared a mutual admiration for many years. His friends were loyal to him and he would like to thank all, but there are so many it would be impossible to mention every one. There are some, however, that must be mentioned. Alec and Lois Mills and Wayne and Mitchie Rich were Topper's emergency response team. When something important needed to be done he would say "Phone Alec" or "Get Wayne." His cousin Hilda and her husband Ray White were there to search for his favorite wool socks and bring a blueberry pie. Everett Durdle ploughed the drive-way, brought propane and his wife's preserves. Roger Embree, Johnny MacMaster, Duke Fraser, Gillian MacKenzie and Gussy Peckham gave freely of their time and support. Countless times there would be a knock on the door and someone would be there to drop off food, fresh fish and his favorite "pull apart bread." The family greatly appreciates your many acts of kindness. Topper was predeceased by his father, Tom Jones (Joggins); mother Marcella MacDonald (Port Hood); sisters, Rachel (Nellie) Heighton who is survived by Thomas and Marilyn Heighton, Mary Fleet who is survived by Tommy, BJ and Robbie, Halifax and two brothers Thomas Robert and Donald Thomas, who died in infancy. The Jones family extend their thanks to every staff member at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital especially (not in any order, Topper loved them equally); The members of the Palliative Care Unit including Laurie Mortimer, RN, Michelle Murphy, RN and Dr. John Ritter; Dr. Kian Kodagoda and the caring staff of the Oncology unit. She was predeceased by her husband Victor in 2000; sisters Ruth MacDonald, Lena Mitchell, Winnie MacSween, Nora Biondi, Kay Murphy; brothers, John, Gerald, Cyril, George and great grandchild, Morgan Leigh MacKay. There will be no visitation for Mrs. Leterte. Funeral mass will be celebrated on Wednesday, October 30, 2013 at 10 a.m. in St. Joseph' s Church, Sydney with Rev. Bill Burke officiating. Interment in Resurrection Cemetery, Sydney Forks. Thanks to the VON Day Program and City Homemakers. Donations may be made to MacGillivary Guest Home or C.B. Palliative Care. Online condolences to www.twcurry.com. The compassionate nurses of the VON who, through their care, fulfilled his wish to die at home. There will be no visitation. Cremation has taken place under the care and direction of V.J. McGillivray Funeral Home, New Waterford. The family invites you to a graveside service at St. Agnes Cemetery, New Waterford, Wednesday, October 30th at 10 a.m. with Rev. Duncan Roach officiating. I don't subscribe to Ancestry.com but here in Sydney, Nova Scotia, our library has some kind of arrangement where you can access Ancestry.com through the library, free of charge. You have to be in the library to access it through their computers or through your own computer if you have wireless. Perhaps there is something similar in a library in your area - if so, you might be able to get access to your sites. I hope that you're able to access your information again. I have just completed an update to my website Cape Bretoners in World Two <https://sites.google.com/site/cbinww2/>. It contains an additional 16 individuals for a total of 16, 077 and 261 new pages for fatal casualties in the period Jan-Jul 1944, with photos for 19 individuals that are not on the Canadian Virtual War Memorial <http://www.veterans.gc.ca/eng/collections/virtualmem> site. Although I feel I'm getting close to completing the number of individuals that served I only have the bare information for many of them, including those that died in service. I invite everyone to have a look at my site and if they have any information they would like to share to fill out the form I have provided on my general Cape Bretoners at War <https://sites.google.com/site/cbatwar/>site. Your input is very much appreciated. Wayne Macvicar Mira Gut, NS Cape Bretoners at War: https://sites.google.com/site/cbatwar/ Cape Bretoners in World War Two: https://sites.google.com/site/cbinww2/
Hello list! I am wondering about the ancestry.com website and how it works after you deactivate your account through non-payment and plan to reactive in the future. Currently my account is deactivated and my user name is MacDonald_Suzanne. I am wondering while I have limited access to my information on the site I can still log on through my family tree maker, view my family trees and at times send and receive messages to other users. I am wondering if anyone else can view my trees? I have one McDonald Family Tree and another tree named MacDonald. Can someone with access to Ancestry.com let me know if they can see these trees? Or my account? I will be activating my account soon but before I do I would like some advice as to other family finding websites that I could use? I am not literate with Ancestry.com at all although I did add quite a bit of information and find many ancestors. I have been told by a few members not to use ancestry.com because by doing so I am giving up my rights and information to them but personally if others can see my information and connect to it, that is what I want. If I ever publish a book, it will be for family and to be shared. Thank you and any advice and information is welcome to this enquiry and the information there in. Alana Holtom, a spokesperson for the Waterloo Police, confirmed 29-year-old Jordan Gillis was killed in a hit and run. "We're devastated here," she said, adding she understands Gillis is from the tight-knit community of New Waterford, where residents are also devastated by the news. "This sort of thing is so unnecessary and extremely tragic. We're feeling it here too." Gillis is the son of two prominent business people in New Waterford, Kim Gillis, owner of Puppy Palace dog grooming, and Mike Gillis, owner of Spike's Ideal Car Care on Union Highway. Holtom said on Sunday at about 4:30 a.m. a group of people found Gillis on the street with severe head wounds. "When police responded he had succumbed to his injuries." Holtom said the priority for police is tracking down the driver of the vehicle involved. "It's very upsetting that someone has done that and has failed to remain at the scene." Police are looking for a bright red vehicle, possibly an oldermodel SUV, with a damaged front bumper and hood. "We really have an engaged community who take ownership on things like this and take it upon themselves to be aware and vigilant. They will look for the vehicle description we've given out. That's where we are with this right now, looking for the vehicle and the driver." Holtom said an autopsy will be conducted as is standard procedure. Someone close to the family, who did not want to be identified, said Gillis loved going to concerts and was physically active. "He loves his music and loved his brothers and sisters. He played minor hockey when he lived here, played rugby for a year at Breton Education Centre." The friend said the family is devastated and the community is stepping up with support.
