Many years ago she made it her mission to keep her many ex-Caper friends informed about the islands activities. Cape Breton Post never knew they had such a loyal employee. Her expectations from life were not great, just to be able to live in her own home, and have her family happy. 1. [NS-CB] Archie Gillis Catherine MacLellan Grand Mira North
    2. JR Reid
    3. Looking for information on an Archie Gillis and Catherine MacLellan who lived in the Grand Mira area. Catherine was born ca 1810 in Scotland and Archie had died before the 1871 Census. There were twins Ronald and Duncan in the family and daughters Mary and Christie. There may have been other children. When the house hold was enumerated during the 1871 Census John Gillis (Duncan, Martin) was the preceding household and Alexander Gillis (Angus Red) was the latter household. I wonder if this was Duncan (Martin) son Archie that married in Halifax or was this Archie (Allan, Alexander) that had come from Broad Cove to teach at Mira. To my knowledge he died a single man in 1859. Could this be another Archie I have no information on? Would also be interested in knowing if this Catherine MacLellan had connections to other MacLellan families in Nova Scotia. Any input would be appreciated Thanks in advance J. R. 2. JR Reid
    3. Hello I realize this isn't related to Acadian Genealogy but I was looking information on a couple by the name of Hugh Gillis and Isabella Gillis. A few of their children were baptized at the church in L'Ardoise and to my knowledge they lived around St Peters. Their son Dan lived at Barra Head where his mother died in 1916. Apparently she was born at Grand Mira. Dan their son was married to a Catherine Gillis from Cape Breton Co. I do have information on her family. A daughter of Hugh and Isabella named Jessie Belle Gillis was married to Joe MacDougall from Grand Mira. Joe MacDougall had Gillis ancestors as well. I have been trying to determine who Isabella's parents and siblings were. Also trying to determine what area of Scotland Hugh originated from and if he had family in Cape Breton. Any info on this Gillis family would be appreciated. Thanks in advance J. R. Reid Sent from my iPhone
