Born in Fairview, he was a son of the late James Joseph "Spike" and Catherine Gertrude (Harnish) Murphy. He worked for many years with Moulton Plumbing and Heating, Halifax. The last few years he had been working on the pipelines in New Brunswick, Saskatchewan and Alberta. A member of the Plumbers and Pipe Fitters Union Local 56, he was an avid hunter and fisherman and enjoyed his ATV. He was also in the process of learning to fly ultra light aircraft. Surviving are his wife, the former Sharon Dorey; brother, Clifford, New Brunswick; sister, Thelma Hamood, Fairview; and a number of aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by brother, Ronald "Turk"; nieces, Heather Ann Hamood, Chirise-Lynn Hamood. Cremation has taken place. Memorial service 11 a.m. Wednesday in St. Luke's Anglican Church, Hubbards. Born in Halifax, she was a daughter of the late Walter and Minnie (Fleet) Harnish. She is survived by a daughter, Thelma Hamood, Halifax; three sons, Ronald (Turk), Halifax; Clifford, Chatham, N.B.; John (Murph), Hubbards; sister, Vera (Mrs. Matt MacDonald), Halifax; 12 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband, James Joseph (Spike); two sisters, Olive Verge, Thelma Teed; two great-granddaughters, Heather Ann, Shireese Hamood. The body has been cremated under the direction of Atlantic Funeral Home, Halifax. A memorial service will be 10:30 a.m. Monday in St. John's Anglican Church, Dutch Village Road, Rev. Wayne Lynch officiating. Burial will be in St. John's Cemetery. No flowers by request. Donations may be made to any charity. He was a member of local 56 of the pipefitters union. He worked in the past for Doug Charlton, J.A. Moultan and Hurlbert Plumbing and Heating. He was a member of Purcells Cove Social Club. Surviving are his companion, Brenda Lewis; sons, Michael, Purcells Cove; Kenny, Lower Sackville; daughter, Debbie, Florida; Lisa, Ostrea Lake; stepchildren, Shawn Lewis, Sheila Higgins; brothers, Clifford, Chatham, N.B.; John (Murph), Northwest Cove; sister, Thelma Hamood, Fairview; four grandchildren; two step-grandchildren; numerous aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his wife, the former Camille Anna Currie. Visitation 2-4, 7-9 p.m. today and Thursday in Atlantic Funeral Home, Bayers Road, Halifax. Funeral arrangements are incomplete. Burial in Gate of Heaven Cemetery. Donations to Canadian Cancer Society.
