    1. Re: [NS-L] WW1 Medal, Fifteenth of June
    2. Unfortunately my father, a 22-year veteran of the Royal Air Force, is ill in hospital, and I cannot talk to him about this, but I believe this medal refers to the June 1917 offensive at Messines, France, when the Royal Flying Corps began strafing German trenches for the first time at low-level, exposing the pilots to dangerous ground fire. You might have more luck sending an e-mail to the Imperial War Museum in London, for one of their experts to tackle. mail@iwm.org.uk Jay Underwood Elmsdale NS www.Pennydreadfulpublishing.com Make a moral choice: Buy a printed book! Apparently it was awarded to my great uncle, who flew with the British air corps in WW1. He was an ace, having at least 8 'kills'. The mention of this was in a Vancouver newspaper article after the war. No date on the paper. > He was also awarded the DFC, and the Italian Croix de Guerre. Nothing on the British medal site, Italian medals or with the Canadian medals. > He also served early in the war with an Red Cross Ambulance outfit as a driver in the Salonika campaign, before becoming a pilot back in England, flying mainly Sopwith Camels over Italy. His name was William Myron MacDonald, born in CT, of Nova Scotia parents, raised in Vancouver, died in San Diego. > Thanks for any help, > Marilyn, Los Angeles > ---------------------------------------- > Basic List Commands: > > 1.
