A native of Roanoke Rapids, NC, he was a decorated veteran of World War II, and a MacArthurs Rangers. He was retired from OBoyle Tank Lines as a long distance driver. He was a member of Colonial Baptist Church of Oceana, the American Legion, and the Veterans of Foreign Wars. He is survived by his wife, Catherine Terry Brooks; and his brother, Dwight Brooks and his wife Betty. His surviving children are George Brooks, Erma Roehl, Debra Trevino, Howard Brooks, Danny Brooks, Teresa Muse, and Harold Brooks, Jr.; his stepchildren; Lois Pyles, Mary Jones, Homer Jones, Daniel Terry, Mark Terry, William Terry, and David Terry. He has 33 grandchildren, and 12 great-grandchildren. He is predeceased by his loving parents, Howard Clark and Erma Mae Brooks; his second wife, Mary Ambrose Brooks; his son, Joseph Brooks; and his stepdaughter, Evelyn Vadala. A funeral service will be conducted Tuesday at 1 p.m. in Hollomon-Brown Funeral Home, Kempsville Chapel, with Pastor Tim Valentine officiating. The burial will follow in Colonial Grove Memorial Park. The family will receive friends at the funeral home Monday from 6:30 to 8 p.m. and again on Tuesday after services at his home on General Booth Blvd. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent to The Building Fund, Colonial Baptist Church of Oceana, Dam Neck Road, Virginia Beach, VA 23454.
