Born in Halifax, he was a son of the late Lawrence and Minnie MacDonald. He lived at Nine Mile River for over 40 years. He served during the Second World War with the Royal Canadian Navy. He is survived by his wife, the former Sadie Dort; three sons, James, Toronto; Earle, Nine Mile River; Edward, Australia; daughter, Shirley (Mrs. Ronald Clark), Elmsdale; 13 grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; two sisters, Doris MacInnis, Halifax; Edna Weatherbee, Dartmouth; two brothers, Frank, Ross, both of Dartmouth. He was predeceased by a sister, Jessie Brown; brother, Elmer. Cremation has taken place under the direction of Withrow-MacMillan Funeral Home, Upper Nine Mile River. A private family service will be held at a later date in Halifax. Donations may be made to Arthritis Society, Nova Scotia Division. McINNIS, Doris Belle - 78, Halifax, passed away quietly September 6, 1996, at home. Born in Halifax, she was a daughter of the late Lawrence and Mary (Minnie) (Pratt) MacDonald. Surviving are son, Sandy and wife Carolyn, Dartmouth; daughter, Sharlane and husband Gerald Morash, Lower Sackville; grandson Lauchlin; granddaughter, Christine; brothers, Frank and Ross. She was predeceased by husband, Lloyd; sisters, Jessie Brown and Edna Weatherbe; brothers, Earl and Elmer (Tug). Cremation has taken place. Memorial service 3 p.m. Tuesday, September 10, at Calvin Presbyterian Church, Ashburn Ave., Halifax, Rev. Sydney McDonald officiating. Family burial at Pleasant Hill Cemetery, Lower Sackville. In lieu of flowers, donations to any charity.

In the1891 Census on 19 Apr 1891 I find a Lawrence E M*Donald age 4 living in district 35, subdistrict B, Page 25, Fam 111, Nine Mile River with his father Stillman age 34 widowed. I find a marriage in NSHVS for a *donald, L* Minnie Pratt and Laurence McDonald married [30 Aug]1906 in Halifax County Item can be found in Registration Year: 1906 - Book: 1820 - Page: 181 - Number: 340. he was age 26, military, born Nine mile River to, father Stillman, mother Jessie.
