You can use http://www.collectionscanada.gc.ca/databases/census-1901/index-e.html {Not indexed by name} and Automatedgenealogy to find the district name IE: Province: Nova Scotia District Name : Cape Breton Sub-District Number: M 2 (no dash) Schedule Number: 2 Plug those into the search page at collectionscanada.gc.ca and you will get a pdf for schedule 2, which doesn't contain much, by the way. To see the full page you have to scroll down using the full screen vertical well as the pdf vertical scroll. As I remember looking at Schedule 2 for Lunenburg and Queens Counties, the Schedule 2 showed the date of enumeration, this does: 20 Apr ;details of the property like W 1-1/2/4, Wood, 1-1/2 story 4 room.plus if there was a barn etc; this just shows W. Page 3 Lines 3 -24 are on Boast Road, Glace Bay, enumerated 20 April. So #2 below is my granduncle. So now I ahve the actual enumeration date and at least the road they lived on. snip > On Thu, Sep 6, 2012 at 5:27 PM, bob gillis <robertgillis@verizon.net> > wrote: >> In McAlpine's directory 1907/8 in Glace Bay I find three Alexander >> Gillis >> >> 1. helper, h New Aberdeen 2. miner 34 Roost, New Aberdeen 3, miner >> h 129 dominion No 4 >> >> In the 1901 Census I find my granduncle and his wife >> >> in Glace Bay M-2 Page 3, enumerated 17 Apr by Nelson Nickerson L9 >> H21 F21 Gillis Alex M Head M Jan 20 1835 65 10 >> H21 F21 Gillis Christy F Wife M May 12 1838 62 >> >> I think he is not #1 but as he was 65 he could have been. >> >> I tried to find the people in the 1901 Census near Alex and Christy >> in McAlpine and in 1911 , I did not find any ; William or any >> Markell (appears to be so written but probably Marshall), John Sunderland, John George McNeill, >> Samuel Boutilier or Robert Nutter >> >> Did people/families move around frequently in those days >> >> How I can look at Schedule 2 by location, of the 1901 Census; I >> looked at on film in an FHC years ago but not Glace Bay.
