Martha Stacy Everett married Milba Marling, March 6, 1873, Hill Grove, Digby County, Nova Scotia (NSVR) Martha was the daughter of Jacob Everett and Cecilia (UNKNOWN) Everett. I know this couple forward and I know all about Marlings............... Question is? Who was Jacob Everett and who was Cecilia ? Cecilia was married second to John Dunbar. Can not fit him into a family either! All of the above took place in Digby County, Nova Scotia. Hope someone can shed some light. Many thanks, Cynthia in Massachusetts
In the history of the county of Annapolis page 248 chapter 14 States that "the Everett's of Digby Co. are the offspring of Jacob Everett".They do not go into detail. There is a foot note James Everett settled in Digby in 1783, and died in 1799 They came from Long Island New York. Al Betts
Cynthia I notice that when Cecilia married John Dunbar in 1865, she was living in Granville. That leads me to believe that she was married to an Everett from Granville Township. From the "Muster Rolls of Discharged Officers and Disbanded Soldiers and Loyalists taken in the County of Annapolis between the 18th and 29th days of June, 1784" from the Supplement to the History Of Annapolis by Savary, we find: Everett, James, Loyalist, settled in Sissaboo, with wife and 8 children (that's the Weymouth area in Digby County); and Everett, Jacob, Loyalist, with a woman, presumably his wife, settled in Annapolis. The only Everett listed in the 1838 Annapolis County census was a William Everett, farmer, in Lower Granville, with 2 females under 6, one male 6-14, 2 females 6-14, three males over 14 (perhaps one of these was your Jacob??), and 2 females over 14 in his household, in addition to himself. William had McGregors & McGraths as neighbors, so perhaps Cecilia was of one of those families. I notice she was listed as Scotch in the 1871 census. This is probably the William Everett from above: 688. Married 26 Dec 1814 at Granville, by banns, by John MILLIDGE, Missionary at Granville, William EVERETT of the Parish of Digby, AND, Amey ANTHONY of the Parish of Granville. Witnesses: William COVERT, John JOHNSON. (Granville, All Saints Anglican Parish Register, typewritten, page 2) (IGI: 1979 member submission) [Annapolis & Digby County Marriages, Vol. 2 - Wayne Walker] Residents of Lower Granville were oriented as much towards Digby in those days as they were towards Annapolis, as it was handier by boat. >From the Land registry office: There are many deeds, but no Jacob in Yarmouth, Annapolis or Digby county. 1799 James EVERIT and wife (Alhi?) to Jeremiah EVERIT, "loving son". Gave 1/2 the farm, stock, etc; Lot#14 "south of the Sissaboo" (S.River, Weymouth) in equal shares. This is likely today around what is called Sissaboo Falls area. 1806 James EVERITT - mortgage from James MOODY for 80 lbs. The land was bordered by Joseph DUNBAR on east, Sissaboo river south below the falls, north by the S. River. Signs James EVERITT. There are deeds between 1799-1808. 1872 Milba Marling to Peter Marling for $400., 50 acres of Land on the Tusket River bounded [loosely] by the public road, Job Raynard, the lake, and George S. Brown. 17 Feb 1876 - Milba Marling and Martha his wife sell land in Grand Joggin (Hill Grove) to John S. McNeill for $300.00, bounded by lands of Maurice [Morris] Taylor and the brook. (sounds like Craig's hill maybe, or around the bend after the bridge) 1894 - 'of Tusket Lakes' 1913 - deed to "Bell Neck School".
