Thanks to all who have replied so far. A few have asked for more details. I have no more details from the Nova Scotia side. Here is what I have Thomas Powell born abt 1833. US military records shows he was born in Halifax Nova Scotia. He married Julia Ann Peabody November 25, 1860, in Buchanan County Missouri. Julia was originally from Maine. Thomas died in the civil war in Little Rock Arkansas May 22, 1865. They had one child my great grandfather. Birth name Thomas Powell, but his adult life was Thomas Snyder. I cannot find a adoption record, or 2nd marriage to a Snyder for Julia. I want to find the parents of Thomas Powell Sr and the connection to Nova Scotia and beyond. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I cannot tell what information you have received because of the way this list is set up to Reply-to-Sender. The only Powell Marriage in Terry Punch's Religious Marriages in Halifax 1768 -1841 is that of Nathaniel Powell to Jane Forbes, 29 Jun 1815 in St Matthews Presbyterian Church. Dwayne Meisner has NS Census transcriptions at http://www.dwaynemeisner.com/census/novascotia/index.php and he has Halifax County 1838 and 1851 Halifax City 1851. Have you searched the Thomas Powells born c 1833 in Nova Scotia? There is a Thomas Powell born c 1833 in Halifax marrying in Portsmouth VA Sometimes when asked for a birth place at a distance from the place a person may just give the name of the nearest large city so I suggest looking in a wider area, Halifax County and NS. > US military records shows he was born in Halifax Nova Scotia. > Thomas died in the > civil war in Little Rock Arkansas May 22, > 1865. What military records is he found in? The only battle around Little Rock was Bayou Fourche/Little Rock, September 10, 1863. Did he die of wounds received in that battle or another? bob gillis
