    2. Pictou is a First Nations' surname..still used today. Newville is in Cumberland County, between Springhill and Parrsboro. The lake there was used by the Springhill & Parrsboro (later Cumberland Coal Co.) Railway, to produce ice for summer time transportation of blueberries etc. The ice was cut in winter (of course) and stored in large sheds insulated thoighout the hot season with sawdust.
