Elaine & all, There were schooners with everything from 2-7 masts.The only 7 master was the Thomas W. Lawson. Most were 2-3 masters. Masts are sometimes called sticks or poles. There were a couple of 5 masted ones that were called Jack A** schooners because they had square topsails on the 1st(fore) & 3rd(mizzen) masts & didn't sail well at all. Kaari
