Bob, Skipton is in North Riding Yorkshire (NRY). There is a Farnhill in NRY, not far from Keighley. The Farnhill in which we found Eric L. ARMSTRONG was in fact in Worcestershire. The 1901 census says Worcerstershire, as does the 1891 census. I found Fernhill Heath Worcestershire (just north east of Worcester on the A38, just south of Martin Hussingtree), which could have been where he was from. With the accent, it may have sounded like Farnhill when the enumerator heard it, and Eric (or whoever gave the info) left off the Heath part. Entirely possible Eric was quite use to saying just "Fernhill", with no Heath attached. Still looking for an actual Farnhill in Worcestershire though. Could be a village of only a couple of hundred people, so not shown on any maps or not easily found. Toni ~ Ontario

Not being familiar with the 1901 British census, the Fernhill mentioned may have been an enumeration or election district. On the ordnance Survey online map says: Lower Town Fernhill Heath On the highest resolution map, Fernhill Heath appears to be an open space, or heath just south of a built up area which may be Fernhill (village).
