Adding one more ingredient into the mix; the Ann Archibald (Patten) Smith found below actually died in July 1940 - still married to William F Smith and living at the Queen St. address in Halifax where Bob's WF Smith died. So there is a period of 14 years between this first wife's death and Wm. Francis's death in 1954 during which he presumably married again, to the mysterious Annie Slaunwhite. I think that it would not be too difficult to program the search engine for the VSs to include a search on the given name of the spouse in a marriage record. AIR there are 236 marriage records with Slauenwhite.
