While reading through an old genealogy, I came across an Arthur Schofield, who had a daughter, Phoebe, b. b. 25 Nov., 1777 at Horton, N.S. I'm not a Schofield researcher, so I could be wrong, but the place of birth looks suspicious. I thought the Schofields were Loyalists. I checked Wright's book - none there, so I went to my Loyalist file. I have a Jesse and a Paul Carpus Schofield in Cumberland Co. in 1785. Does Phoebe's father, Arthur, fit in? Thanks, Bill
Bill, According to Eaton in The History of Kings County. "Arthur Scovel was a grantee at Horton in 1761, but whether he was the progenitor of the following Schofields we do not know." He then goes on to mention other Schofields who begin showing up in the records in 1784.
