Also: the show indicates there were German saboteurs at work who might have played a part in the disasater. This was never proven. Also: One character explains the German character's ethnicity by saying "He's Dutch, they are on our side." The Dutch were neutral in the First World War, and no fighting took place in the Netherlands. It was to The Netherlands (Doorn) that Kaiser Wilhelm fled for sanctuary when the revoltion broke out in Germany after the war. If you Google "Shattered City" and Maritime Museum of the Atlantic Curator Dan Conlin's name you may still find his excellent critique of all that was erroneous about the CBC's production.
