Hi All: Somebody please correct me if I am wrong. The signatories of the bond were simply stating that, if it should later be proven that there existed an impediment to the marriage, they would forfeit the sum stipulated in the bond. It didn't matter who came up with how much as long as it totalled the stipulated amount. The witnesses were simple perfunctory adjuncts whose only task was to state that two persons claiming to be whoever they claimed to be did, in fact, sign the bond in their presence. They would not necessarily have had to know, or even have heard of, any of the signatories prior to the signing of the bond. -----Bob H----- ----- Original Message ----- From: "bob gillis" <robertgillis@verizon.net> Cc: <nova-scotia-l@rootsweb.com> Sent: Monday, April 30, 2007 5:30 PM Subject: Re: [NS-L] Witnesses who signed the 'marriage bond' > David Reed wrote: >> Witnesses could be anyone who was present when the bond was >> created.
